Yeah you can hook a USB charger up to a battery and it will work. Should be a few threads in here about it already, some folks have done exactly that. Bad thing about doing it is when the charger is off it will draw a constant 10mA from the battery. Might not sound like a lot but over time it adds up. 60 seconds it will consume 600mA's. 1 hour it will draw 36,000 mA'a or 36 amps. 24 hours it will use up 864 amps that could have been used to power a atomizer. Adding a simple on off switch would keep it from draining the battery if you switched it off after a charge. Maybe those numbers above don't bother you all that much , so hooking it straight up might be the way to go.

I should clarify that i was talking about the USB chargers that come with Ecig kits. The chip Minus posted thats made to be hooked up all the time has some awesome reverse protection on it . It is rated at .7 uA drain on the battery. To put that in perspective it takes 1000 mA to equal 1 amp . It takes 1,000,000 uA to equal 1amp

I want to do this too but by using an external charger and charge the mod like you would a eGo or regular 510.. The challenge I see is that for the positive contact from the battery connector to be able to charge the battery, it needs a direct path for current to flow.. But the same direct path would also power the atomizer constantly.. I was thinking maybe a diode that would be attached from the center pin to the battery side of the switch might be the ticket..

anyone know anything about diodes?

charge and pass.jpg

If you can fit the relay here is how I charge and pass through at the same time. The relay I found was from Omron. It is a SPDT relay that can handle 1A @ 30Vdc and its about 10x8x12 mm. A AA battery is about 11 mm wide.
