No, I mean that there is a USB port inside my cigarette lighter, but it is not wired to anything, so I can plug in any USB cord I want, it's just that nothing happens.

On the non base model I am going to assume it's wired, but either way, I'mma gonna get the husband to either fix it, ore mount one for me somewhere, whichever he considers easiest.

Ok, I see. It would certainly be nice to use this one and wire it up (or install a real one if it’s as fake/placeholder), but taking apart a dashboard on a modern car can be a real nightmare.

Eh, he'll be fine, he does stuff like switch out radiators in VW bugs (the new ones) although I must say he wasn't very happy and there was a lot of muttering about "non standard parts" and also "Germans, always trying to stuff 10 kilograms into 5 kilogram containers," and well we have two sheds and one is stuffed full of tools including a cement mixer.

He's really very handy but I need a new phone but don't want to buy one until I get paid my first "cellphone allowance" check and like, my phone is nearing 6 years old I have this odd magic with phones where they never die, but the battery sure is."

I would hate to be driving home after a long day and through some pretty sketchy terrain when it comes to like Coyotes (the human ones) and have my car die on me, AND my phone, etc.

Yes, an in-car charging port is a must-have. I use mine to recharge my spare drone battery while I’m flying, it’s really cool. I’ve wired mine directly to the battery (with a fuse in between, of course), that way it can be used while the car is off. I know it’s not recommended to charge a battery and not being nearby, but I’m usually not too far away and I have a fire extinguisher...and it’s an old car, it’s a risk I’m willing to take, a car fire wouldn’t endanger other people (not where I’m parking it while charging, I mean).

This is a neat little ‘trick’ if he needs to add a fuse to a wire without the need for a bracket or anything like that.
