I am NOT trying to start a flame war but it seems to me that since the rules were changed for the classifieds, there has been a surge of listings for mods that are going for more than they are new. I realize that for some reason e-cig gear holds its resale value more than anything I have ever seen before, but, these listings for things that are going for $20-30 MORE than new are downright ridiculous and quite possibly the worst thing that could happen to the community. When I first found this forum I embraced it for being so welcoming and accepting but it seems like there are more and more people who are doing nothing but trying to make a quick buck. I'm not talking about rare, one-off or discontinued devices. Being a musician for years upon years has taught me the value of things like that well before I even knew what an electronic cigarette was. Maybe I'm the only one but in my eyes, it just seems like profiteering is running rampant these days and it completely debases the whole reason why I was here in the first place: the vibrant community. I would love to hear opinions on how/why people think this is acceptable.

Free market dictates that those who sell at a price either won't be able to sell or will sell only when the actual vender is out of stock. Either way, it tends to correct itself. Is this a good thing? I'm not sure it is any of our business, because what ever happens between two consenting adults is not for me to regulate.

Now. mods, specifically mechanical mods, tend to hold value extrodinarily well, almost nothing to break. Other than those, I don't know why they are able to be sold at or greater than retail value.

From what i have seen it appears that some of these Mods are very much like collectors items especially anything GG & Mods like the Darwin,as they seem to be made in small numbers are great devices and thus in demand !! I suppose in a free market place its all about supply and demand !!
You certainly don't see the mass produced items selling at a premium !!

like bahiboy,i have never seen items that are mass produce been sold @ unreasonable prices, one thing i do love about e-cig is the fact that it holds it's value and u are never really throwing your money away,if i had the money for things like a lower serial # ggts or empiremod, helix etc. these mods are all proven to be monsters in this game and are hard to get,so if the seller is selling it 4 20-50.00 more i find nohing wrong with it,there is always some one willing to pay the price.i have seen ppl willing to pay 80.00 for a lava tank when it costs 45.00..again we cannot get mad cause things are not in our reach,if u see something been sold for way more and u know u can get it in a store for cheaper just do so...now i almost slit my wrist one day when someone posted a provari in the classifieds for 100.00 and i came in one pm to late..that's painful, lmao.

I'm sorry if I was unclear about my question. I wasn't talking about mods that were unavailable. I'm talking about something you can buy currently from a vendor and seeing it for sale for more than it's retail price in the classys.

Anytime you see a mod for more than the price listed on the site its either out of stock or treasured for its number and/or version, people in the know know exactly what they want. Also, often those mods you see listed are parts of packages including batts, etc........:)

Ripple, I understand all of that. I specifically saw an item for sale, by itself, for more money than it was available for on the site. I'm not going to say what it was; that's irrelevant. I also believe it is the exception and not the rule. I realize I might be a complete idiot for thinking people on the internet should have any integrity whatsoever but the only reason I feel that way is because of the interactions I have had with the people on here.

I recently had a mod in the classies. I have over $200 invested in it to have it refurbished/outfitted as new condition. It costs $160-new. If I ask $200 for it, the reason would be that I'm trying to recoup MY expense. In reality, I assumed the loss, marking it a little lower than cost of buying from the vendor who produces it, because I realized few, if any, would pay more for an un-warrantied item than they can pay for one with a warranty.

I understand the OP's position. I've seen it myself. Unfortunately, there's no rule about the topic and no reason to implement one. It's a market where you need to be aware of market pricing. In the end, did the seller screw the buyer or did the buyer screw themself? Nobody should be screwing or getting screwed, but we live in a capitalist age and it's to be expected. Buyer beware!

What I would like to know is exactly how did the rule changes affect the price of items listed and sold....the rules change was before my time. I'd appreciate some insight.

The rule changes don't affect the pricing of items, just who can list them. Check out the sticky in the classifieds forum.

i understand your question...

i am seeing provari set ups[2] listed there ,right now,for way more then it would cost to buy from provape directly ..that means brand new with warranty...

seems the asking price keeps going higher and higher every day with no real supply and demand justification ,,, because provape's has them in stock and ready to ship as i type..

I wasn't referring to those although that is the type of thing I'm talking about. I completely understand the price on some things and how the market drives prices up on discontinued/out-of-stock/rare/custom mods. I have two GG's and a UFS. However, I would like to think that if I ever decided to sell them, which I highly doubt, that I wouldn't try and hose some poor soul just to make a buck. Again, that goes back to the sense of community around here and the fact that I honestly feel like a part of it. I don't expect everyone to have the same standards as me but that doesn't mean that I don't HOPE they do.

I saw that, too lol. Will it sell? Who knows? Maybe either the seller will se the error in their ways from lack of interest and adjust accordingly or a buyer will offer a FAIR price and it will sell. It could just stay un-sold, too. If someone buys it at that price, they're screwing themself. The seller just posted a price. Nobody is forced to pay that much.

I completely agree. I don't mean to sound all holier-than-thou and I do realize that as long as there's a sucker born every minute there will be someone there to take advantage of them; it just doesn't make it any more pleasant.

edit: I guess first and foremost, I never bought any of my vaping gear as an investment. I bought it to stop smoking and I LOVE my toys. It has satisfied both of those needs.

I guess...some people are just a little silly? ("Dumb" sounds harsh. But take your pick.)

It seems clear to me that IF a used item is in on classies for more than it could be bought for new, AND it's available now, new...either there's something I don't know, or it won't sell.

But there may be other factors we don't know. (Including batteries and gear would be one. Low serial number or collectible older edition could be another. )

But...if there aren't any other factors, then it just won't sell, right? No need to worry.

Best,
Ande

PS- I'm delighted to pay over retail for second hand mods that happen to be for sale in Korea. Cause if I import them, I'd pay 30% above retail on tax and shipping. There are reasons, you know?

A good rule for anyone looking to buy on the classys is, if you find something you like, research it. If you go to the original website and they are new for cheaper, buy it new.

If you are like me and a super impulse buyer and have to have something that cannot be obtained any other way, expect to pay a premium.

If you see something overpriced and don't want to buy it, giggle and move on with your life.

You will be much happier if you don't spend so much time worrying what others are doing.
