Hey guys, I'm a new member and I wanted to see if anyone has had any luck with dropping the habit of using snuff with an electronic cigarette. Here's my story.

I started using snuff at the age of 14 (Yes i know, illegal and a horrible habit) I had picked up the habit from hanging out with some redneck students at my high school in south texas. I dipped for years, slowly dipping my Grizzly snuff more and more frequently. I'm 18 now. No signs of cancer, but i've had an increased amount of cavities and I had to have all of my wisdom teeth pulled because of infection. I realized that this habit I had was destroying my health and if it is happening this quick (4 years) then i know oral cancer was to be found sometime in my near feature. I was working at a bar and grill every now and again just filling in for people when last week the owner had a "Cigar Party" basically the owner of a local tobacco shop, the owner of the bar, and a bunch of customers sitting around smoking cigars and drinking beer. Well when i was walking over by the bar, i noticed the Metro E-Cig display sitting there. My long-time curiosity about these electronic cigarettes could finally be ceased. I talked to the tobacco shop owner about them and finally he made me an excellent deal. He sold me the Metro electronic cigarette platinum kit that is normally sold at $75 USD for $50. So that day I put my snuff to the side and and tried to start a schedule of sorts. Last thursday I started using my e-cig with the 1.8% nicotine level, then today i dropped to the 1.2%, hopefully by next thursday i will drop to the 0% cartridges. After the nicotine has ceased to be my addiction, I will just have to worry about dropping the habit of having an e-cig in my hand, but that should be easy. I will keep y'all posted, and please, drop by, say hi, and leave a story or questions. Thanks for your time!

Grats and welcome to ECF!! I was a long time smoker and I worked my way down from 18mg (what few companies call 1.8%) and I'm now at 4mg in one cartomizer and a random mix of 4mg and 0mg in the other (I fill with 4mg in the AM and top off with 0mg at work on that carto). But I need that bit of TH. You may be able to get past that since you were not dependent on TH.

I know there have been some ex-dippers on here.

I dipped for 15 years, smoked for 20. I had it bad, from the time I woke till I went to bed I had a dip in my mouth. I would put a fresh dip in my mouth on my way to the smoke pit. Bought a ecig and told my self I was not buying any more tobacco. I finished any tobacco I had left while also using the ecig. Took about a week to use the last of my tobacco and from then on I have been tobacco free and never looked back. Been about 1.5 years now and I feel great. A bad habit has turned into an amazing hobby. So welcome to vaping and trust me; it is worth the change.

That's awesome to hear, congrats. I can already tell it is worth the change, but i'm planning on it being a short-lived thing. As soon as I can drop to 0% and get off of the nicotine portion of addiction, I'll plan to drop the habit of vamping. Then i plan to pass it on to my dad who was a smoker since he was young and switched to dipping. But thanks for the support!

TH is throat hit, a feeling similar to smoke hitting the back of your throat, Nicotine is TH.

It looks like Metro has cartomizers aka cartos. (technically cartridges aka carts are used with a separate atomizer). Look like a female battery and male threaded carto, probably an RN4081 and less likely a 510. Metro makes nothing, All slim ecigs are made in China. You probably have atomizer batteries so you have to be extremely careful if you refill cartomizers - leaks onto the end of the battery can damage or kill auto matic batteries or any battery with an open hole in the threaded end (but it's easiest to damage auto batteries since they are totally dependent on a little drag switch right inside the battery end hole).

You could buy a pack of RN4081 prefilled cartos at AZSMokeFree or Njoy (Npro) or Smokestik (Hendu) and see if they fit and work. If they do, then AZSmokeFree also sells a manual RN4081 battery which should be totally sealed on the threaded end. Easier to get a good hit on manuals and a manual won't turn on accidentally from wind or vibration. Plus safer from being damaged if you decide to keep cartos damp to get days of use out of each. If RN4018 does not fit, try a pack of prefilled Boge 510 cartomizers from VaporKings.com (don't forget the s). if neither fits then it is a mystery model. And if 510 fits, that does not mean your charger is safe for the standard model's batteries because there are many 510-threaded models and at least 2 are reverse electrical polarity.

Welcome to the ECF, and welcome to the world of Vaping!

I don't have a lot to add to the dipping part, I was a smoker for 11 years and stopped the night I got my first e-cig. My first one was a disposable from a smoke shop, 10 bucks...got addicted to them real quick.

What I did want to chime in on was your plan to drop down your nicotine. Here's the deal, nicotine is a substance that forms a chemical dependency in your body. If you're planing to go from full-strength (I'm assuming that your habit was equivalent or more than a pack-a-day smoker) to 0 over the span of 2-3 weeks, you may as well just go straight to 0.

There's a certain acclimation period that your body has to go through. For starters, you're going to be changing from having a tobacco product in your lip, which was specifically designed to very rapidly deliver nicotine to your brain, to a fairly new technology that doesn't have near the absorbancy or speed. It's going to take you at -least- two weeks to switch fully to the e-cig.

Then you'll be stepping down the nicotine, which isn't exactly like, but is similar to reducing your food intake if you were trying to lose weight. You're still going to be hungry for more nicotine, so you'll do one of two things: vape more often, or go through fairly mild withdrawals.

None of this is going to be particularly fun.

My advice to you is this: switch to the e-cig, give it a month minimum before you start lowering the nicotine dose. That will give your body time to adjust between phases.

Either way, best of luck!

I was a 1 pack/day smoker for almost 20 years then quit analogs, supplanting my addiction with Scandinavian snus (imported, not the crappy, sugar-laced U.S. stuff). Not that much different from dip (not fire-cured). This was far cheaper than cigarettes, with the equivalent of a pack costing roughly $2 instead of $6-$7 bucks. I used snus extensively for almost 2 years. Fairly recently, new tobacco legislation nearly doubled the price of imported snus to the point where I was spending almost as much as I did on analogs. This is what prompted me to check out e-cigarettes which have a fraction of the cost.

Was I able to successfully swap out snus for e-cigarettes? So far yes. It's been a week, and I have no inclination to use snus.

But I'll be damned sure not to be caught in the same predicament I was in with snus and tobacco legislation. The first chance I get, I'm going to stock up on some DIY materials that will not only save me more money but ensure that I'll have cheap juice for the better part of 2 years ;)

I was mostly a smoker when I switched to vaping, but I was still picking up a can every now and then, and sometimes I would be dipping regularly in periods as long as a week on top of smoking. I use to dip the cheap stuff all day so my gums couldn't really take any more of the abuse if I want to keep my teeth. I have thought about picking up a can just to use every now and then because I really enjoy the act of it. So far I've resisted though. So I'd say it is more effective at killing my desire to smoke, but it has kept me from dipping as well. Welcome to ECF.
