So ive bought an ecig and its on its way now, (its a Riva-T) cant wait to get it and have a poke around with the thing.

I mentioned to my GF and Grandmother about ecigs and there both interested in trying mine, but are both concerned about health issues.

Now i know that normal smoking is not good for asthma suffers anyway, but im more concerned about there being a problem with this that could potentially be more serious than normal cigarettes, My Gran is also a little concerned about the liquid having any affects on her diabetes or sugar levels ??

Im no doctor so i couldnt and answer there questions, but i was hoping someone on here has more knowledge on the subject than me and could help me out.

thanks
Kris

Good question about the diabetes. I don't know the answer but I'm sure some smart person here will know.

My mother has severely compromised lungs. Very bad COPD. While there is no cure for COPD, her lung function has seemed to improve tremendously. It certainly hasn't seemed to get worse. She no longer uses her oxygen, she no longer has that lingering cough and she's off one of her inhalers. I fooled around with ordering her juice, all VG, all PG and she's just fine with the 70pg/30vg from Backwood Brew. You might have to experiment , or she might have to herself to see what works best for her. Some people say all VG works best for them, some say all PG. You have to experiment.

I really commend you for trying to get others vaping.

Obviously, the best scenario for anyone is to use no foreign substances ever. This means no smoking, no vaping, no coffee no nuthin. To some degree, these things will always have some adverse affect however small.

If someone has asthma, there's really no telling what will trigger it. Again, better to use nothing. If the choice is between smoking and vaping, vaping is almost certainly less dangerous in my opinion, but you are still inhaling crap into the lungs that could trigger an attack. If nicotine is a must, I'd recommend some other form of NRT. If gums give acid reflux and the patch gives nightmares (common complaints) just a drop of e-juice now and then rubbed on the gums will work.

Diabetes is a serious serious illness. It has all manner of effects and combining it with smoking generally is a major no-no of epic proportions. Again, ideal is to quit nicotine altogether if possible. Certainly vaping would be better than smoking due to the lesser oxidative stress, but nicotine in and of itself can wreak havoc on blood sugar making it difficult to manage. I would opt for some way of reducing nicotine down to nothing if at all possible.

im a type 1 diabetic, my blood sugars been much more stable since i made the switch to ecigs, and i vape the most sweetest juices ever. It gets converted into sucralose in your body which doesn't metabolize as sugar does. nicotine however has an effect on insulin sensitivity but i counteract that with lots of ganoderma lucidum.

Thats the diabetes take, not so sure about asthma.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies its really helped, to be honest i wish i could remove the dependance of nicotine and cigarettes from my gran as she has already had a cancer scare many many years ago and (touch wood) has been given the all clear ever since, but its her one last vice and being a smoker as well im not really the person to demand she stop.

she has been a diabetic for many years whilst smoking and she has kept her bloods in good order for a long time, she was more concerned about vaping having an immediate or large problematic effect than long term problems.

I will let her know what you guys have mentioned relating to diabetes on here and also ask her to consult her doctor about it as god knows hes been banging on to her for years about quitting :) maybe he might have found a way to get her off them thanks to ecigs :)

thanks again everyone

Kris

OK so I was wondering what other peoples views on this was I have had asthma since I was 11 years old, now the reason I searched through this forum is obviously the same reason you lot have posted does it or will it eventually affect my asthma I have been "smoke" free (analogues) for about 6 weeks now and I have no regrets my asthma has indeed got better I probably take my inhaler once a day(Ventolin) depending on what I am doing I still take the steroid one just in case usually only at night before bed. I was also surprised to read on here that certain ones are triggering mild attacks in others I bought Mountain Rift 70/30 pg/vg from gotvapes and I have been getting mild discomfort not excessive wheezing as was per the norm form real ciggys. So to all those who are looking to stop analogues I would recommend Vaping it is a blessing for me anyway.

Hubby is Type II and hasn't had any negative problems when it comes to vaping. He also developed adult asthma a year ago but he also never smoked...he chewed. He wanted to quit chewing and was concerned that it would trigger attacks. He started last summer and hasn't had any as of yet. In fact, he stopped using his inhaler.

Glad to find this thread. Type 2 Diabetic and just stopped smoking and started Vaping 15 mg Nic. I have seen no change in my bloodsugar * or - since Vaping ( taking 1000mg Metformin a day ) Im afraid to vape sweets as Im afraid of it triggering cravings for sweets. I have lost 87 pounds the last year and dont want to go back to eating the sweets like before.

My mother-in-law has asthma, so after trying the eGo I bought her for about a week, she quit because of coughing. I bought her some VG and she's doing fine! Thanks for the advice!
