Using Protank II coil in Aerotank

Ok guys, I've been loving my aerotank, but I'm having a problem with the coils. The first one lasted about a week which was normal, but the second lasted about 3 days before it got all gunked up and black. I tried rebuilding it using a single coil but couldn't get the wick right and my Provari kept reading error messages (I will have more time to rebuild this weekend). So for the time being I put a protank II coil in and it works great. Any idea why the coils aren't lasting like they should?

I've heard others at the vape shops complaining about the dual coils too. Seems a bit far fetched to me to have a dual coil in a tank. I've rebuilt a couple of the dual coil heads as single coilers and they vaped great. Just add a piece of cotton flavor wick to replace the space used by the second coil. I wrapped on a 1/16th drill bit with some 30 ga. kanthal if I remember correctly.

Those dual coil Kanger heads have very little space, even with a single coil. Tossing in another coil to the mix just amplifies the issues.
It's been my experience that Kanger heads have wicking and chamber airflow issues, especially with high VG juices. This makes the coils gunk up badly, and fast, not to mention a plethora of wick issues ranging from dry hits to outright burning.
I eventually got fed up with stock coil setups and rebuilt the heads using microcoils and cotton, and with much trial and error I got it working to my standards.
I've since stopped using Kanger products as I prefer RDAs/RTAs, but if you still want to, you might give the microcoil/cotton combos a go.

I'm going to try a rebuild I saw on youtube where the guy wrapped around a zip tie so it made an oval shaped coil to fill the space of the 2 stock coils. I'm getting fed up with the trail and error on this thing because I rebuild my Igo-W and Kayfun lite with ease. I've also decided to give cartos a try. I have an IBTanked setup coming in the mail.

I was discussing this in another thread and theres an easy fix for the dual coil heads.. just cutting a small square on the rubber piece that fits over the head to allow the wicks to spread out a tad more..

I tried it last night and it made a world of difference. No leaking so far.. I also use a high VG juice

the single coil are all long stemmed now.. or should be .. some vendors still are selling off their short stemmed ones

as well as the dual coils (that used to be short stemmed) are now long.

If you had a longer stem from an AeroTank head, couldn't you just take that stem and put it on the protank coil? I mean in a pinch and you needed a coil.

I compaired what I have last night and the difference in height was the base height because of the extra coil. Didn't try it but it looked like because of that that it wouldn't seal where the top of the coil base and the tube of the tank meet.

This is how Innokin does it with the iClear 16. I'm surprised Kanger doesn't do it.

I've heard really good things about the iclear16b but haven't had a chance to try it yet.. Innokin always seems to be a step ahead in the clearo dept.

I don't run any daul coil at all anymore, single coil rebuilds fit into most of the kangers and vape so much better.

That sucks, never hear people say that.. usually its always kanger who has the leaking/flooding/gurgle issues..

Which clearos have you tried? The regular iclear30's had terrible leaking issues for sure. The iclear30-S is by far the best clearo I've used (still haven't tried the aspire ones but thats my next purchase) No leaking.. never a dry hit.. heads last way longer than protank ones.. flavor is better and you can easily use on higher watts/volts without issues.. 2.1 ohm heads I crank up to 4.5v and it tastes amazing.

Nope, but what I have tried is a T3S/MT3S coil in my PT3 Mini (which uses, if I understand correctly, the same dual coil as the Aerotank). The T3S/MT3S coils are tall and have the appropriate base height. I have had no leaks for over 24 hours and the tank handles like a single-coil champ.
