The real question : is smoking tobacco with these things as economical as e-cigs? Is it so efficient that very little is necessary?

I did roll/stuff your own (syo) before I got into e-cigs to save money. I have come to the conclusion that smoking e-cigs will never be as economical as syo before the tax hike (cost me $0.80 to 1.20 a pack) with all the hardware investment. It would defeat the purpose to buy tobacco and extract it to make juice. Tobacco that once cost $12 a pound is now $37 a pound.
The Real Question is whatcha gonna do when/if eJuice and/or eCigs are banned completely, or taxed/regulated to death so it's just as expensive as buying commercial tobacco, or more probably.
The jist of this thread was alternatives.
Yes (SYO) has trippled in price but it's still way less expensive than buying a pack of cigs at the store, but also just as dangerous. Vaporizing tobacco is much safer, if all else fails, than burning it. From my past calculations before the new tax gouge, SYO or RYO cigs and eJuice were about the same pricewise, and both are way less expensive than buying a pack from PM.

Dude- nice thread I knew this was possible

Please tell us more about your favorite the Vapbong

How much juice can you put in it? How many hits? Can you do a video? please!

I love hearing these guys who would never think of looking at paraphenelia start asking questions. My "other" smoking has become more enjoyable:D since I've went to e juice. I just want a more trouble free time doing it. My first thoughts went toward a .... pipe but they are outlawed here in Cali. Vapbong huh? I belive this might be the answer.

It would only defeat the purpose if your purpose is to save money - It would still fulfill the purpose of being significantly more healthy for you - I seriously do not think the e-cigs are going anywhere - But - I do see them being brought into line with tobacco prices through market manipulation and taxes - so this point will most likely wind up moot - The e-cig has a bright future - The cheap bottles of e-juice - Not so much - I do so hope I turn out to be wrong on this - But - I see closed non-refillable Cartomizers becoming the rule - priced and packaged equal to cigarettes -

Actually the VapBong works great as a less expensive vaporizer for real tobacco, for eJuice ya just make a fabric swatch, from reusable hemp tea/coffee filter material & soak it in juice. The real problem here is heat control. When using a torch flame it's too easy to overheat the juice & fabric & poof it's burnt. The best answer, and also one of the most expensive is the iOlite ( iInhale ) unit, great heat control there & used successfully with juice by many others here, someone already did a youtube video on how to best do it.

Before the tax hike I bought a Dugout, also known as a one-hitter. It has a pipe that looks like a cigarette. I put Drum tobacco in it and it works well and is economical, just taking tokes as needed. I am probably the only person who ever bought one for its stated, legal purpose of smoking tobacco.

I had been considering getting one of these for almost 30 years ever since one of my non-smoking roommates in college pointed out that it would be more economical smoking tobacco to hold it in like someone smoking pot, plus there would be less second hand smoke to offend nonsmokers like himself. It is pretty hard to toke strong tobacco and hold it in for a long time, especially without a filter, but I gave it a go. Talk about a nicotine buzz for a small amount of tobacco, too. But, its a pain in the ..... You have to light it for every puff, it gets really hot, and makes you cough too much. But then I got an ecig and haven't used the dugout since.

Maybe I ought to try a regular water-filled ..... I am sure buying one of these to actually smoke tobacco would also be a first, but it seems like they would be even more trouble than a dugout. And it might be a bit problematic smoking one of these while driving. :)

I've been looking down this road as well. My logic being that e-cigs/e-juice could be become scarce commodities at any time, so an alternative would be a good idea.
After checking some reviews and how-to videos, I picked up an Iolite.
The Iolite seems to get too hot for e-liquid. Dripping straight into the <ahem> 'legal herb chamber' produces what seems to me like airborne plasma. Flavors are distorted and hot hot hot.

So I tried putting in polyfill and dripping on that. Again waaaay too hot. Looked like the polyfill fused with some aspect of the eliquid and turned solid.

So I tried with half of a cotton ball. Still burn your nose off hot.
With all forms of dripping, holding the draw in your mouth for a couple seconds cools it enough to inhale safely, but the taste is still badly distorted.

With that, I've concluded that e-cigs run a lot cooler than the 395F temp of an herbal vaporizer. E-cigs are also MUCH easier to deal with.

Sooo, I got some pipe tobacco, shoved a pinch into the bowl and it works pretty well. It provides VERY little visible vapor, but such a powerful flavor that it satisfies. Trouble is, it tastes more like pipe tobacco than pipe tobacco smells. Very dominant aroma that sticks in a room almost like smoke. Nicotine is definitly present but the taste is a little too pipey for me.

Shisha tobacco. This is tobacco that has been soaked in glycerin with flavors added. This stuff is incredibly sticky and messy. I make an aluminum foil 'cup' or 'crucible' and place it in the upper bowl half. It produces light visible vapor for quite a while. Zero throat hit, but VERY good flavor. The flavor only lasts about 5-10 minutes. After that it continues to make vapor, it just has no flavor, or starts tasting kind of rancid. Trouble is, all that sticky stuff turns into thick black tar. If it escapes the aluminum foil, it turns the bowl black. This stuff has to be scrubbed with alcohol to remove. As it accumulates, it begins making foul vapor, so fairly frequent cleaning is required.

Overall, the hookah-shisha tobacco offers tastiness at least on par with e-cigs. I tried Starbuzz Blue Mist, Chocolate Mint, and Cappucino. All three were quite good, especially the Blue Mist. On the downside, cleaning the Iolite bowl is not easy. Loading and even removing the little aluminum foil crucibles is messy and annoying.

Right now I'm debating whether to get a full blown desktop vaporizer with a large open bowl (about $200). This is a matter for debate, because it might be smarter to just get a hookah pipe (water ....), as they're much cheaper than vaporizers (hookah-shisha.com will give you one for free with $100 purchase), and if used correctly, they're almost as clean.

So that's where I'm at. Desktop vaporizers allow the user to control the temperature, which would 'theoretically' allow you to dial-in the perfect temperature for e-juice, as well as deploy shisha at a whim.

Is anyone able to relate experience with both ejuice and shisha on an herbal vaporizer????

For a portable vape, you may want to try the iInhale (google it). It is a portable vaporizer that you can use dry herbs or liquids. A bit pricey for me right now, but if e-cigs do get banned, I will get one of them for sure.

Not me, I will still get e liquid from China if necessary. As probably many others would. Customs can not possibly seize all of the imports.

I have seen portable vaporizers with temp control as well - here is one and I know I've seen others too -

Vapir Oxygen Vaporizer Instructions @ GOTVAPE.com

I do not think that a water pipe is anywhere near as clean as a vaporizer - It is being combusted first - water does help to filter the smoke - but it is SMOKE - Vapor eliminates over 3500 chemicals completely - Water pipes still produce them and then somewhat filters them - Vaporizing ELIMINATES them all together - They never exist to begin with - If a water pipe could do that then we'd have the answer to "clean coal" as well ;)

You could probably use it in a nebulizer too tho it wouldn't be very cool looking. lol
Nebulizers are an expensive, clunky, medical device prescribed for those who have damaged lungs to soothe them. They utilize propylene glycol (just like eCigs use) and other meds.
Probably where inventers got the idea for eCigs in the first place which means the FDA damn well better ban nebulizers too!

i am trying to get away from spending so much on atomizers.
i got the vapir one, it makes more noise than a rabunciuos scotsmans bagpip.
it got the iolite, might work well if i could get the butane in it, i get more butane on my pants and hands than the unit.
same for the ploom, works well to replace a mixture of tobacco and glycerin in the "pod" but i cant get the butane into it.
ive had good luck with a small hookah that i will continue to endeavor and have my hopes on a magic flight launch box ive not received yet

Regarding filling the Iolite with butane......

Using the Colibri brand butane cylinder, do NOT use an adaptor, just use the factory nozzle on the can. Shaken well and filling "nozzle down" only takes a second or two (its a very small reservoir), and at the first sign of blow-back, your full (same as a lighter).

I get the same amount of butane blow-back (leaking) as I would filling any lighter.
