Hi,

I've been seeing people getting upset and even angry with USPS's "tracking".

This is not a tracking number that you get, it is Delivery Confirmation number and it means just what it says. It is useful to the vendor to know when/if packages they sent out are actually delivered to the customers.

If you happen to see it update and it looks like tracking, then great, you're getting something extra, but if it doesn't, then that's just how that system works.

Even the post office people will tell you that delivery confirmation is not tracking.

As someone else posted, the only things important to this method is point of origin and destination.

Just thought I'd clear that up since I keep seeing so many posts and they are misunderstanding what Delivery Confirmation actually is and what it means.

Also, when you go to the USPS.com site, you will see it says Track and CONFIRM. Post Office offers tracking on very expensive types of mailing like Express mail, but not on priority, unless you send a package registered mail, then I think that is trackable.

If you happen to see that the package was scanned and it shows up on the USPS site, then it does lead you to believe it is tracking, but it's not.

Seems to be the same as the UPS shipments I've tracked. Updates everytime package is scanned into a facility and out of a facility. I know its not "real" tracking but just a form of confirmation but really thats all that UPS has ever offered me. Gives you an idea of the progress but not much else lol

I would agree--everything I send out with Delivery Confirmation gets the the blow by blow. Maybe it did not used to be that way, but it is now.

They don't always scan it at every facility, that's why it's a headache to try and use it as a tracking method. I guess they are not required to, since it is what it is, sometimes it works just like real tracking and other times it makes you nuts trying to figure out where the package is, esp. if you need it quickly and the thing is not updating or the package is not being scanned.

Did you ever receive it?

I can explain it, but the explanation is quite simply that someone screwed up and lost a package, that or it just didn't get scanned properly. Unfortunately at some point or another all of these systems rely on people... and we're flawed.

Did you look very closely at the dates? It says it processed through the sort facility one day and they received the electronic shipping info the next. That's not a person screwing up. ;)

Yes I received it, long ago. It's funny now, but sure had me scratching my head a the time.

That's even stranger, it doesn't state that the item was ever delivered. So much for delivery confirmation too!

I think most of us are not upset or angry with USPS tracking, we are just jittery for our new toys. But priority mail IS supposed to be within 2 or 3 business days and they do often fail to deliver in that time frame.

No, most people are not upset or angry, but I've seen posts that said "I hate "USPS" and lots of others similar to that over time on this board because of what the website was saying when they tried to track with del. conf. numbers. Just thought I'd explain what those number really mean so that people wouldn't feel so bad when the site didn't say what they thought it should because they thought it was actual tracking.

They'll tell you that it's 2 to 3 days for priority mail, but if something gets lost, there's no refund or anything if it takes longer, in other words, it's not a guaranteed service like UPS. If UPS takes longer than their service says, (even ground is a guaranteed service) you get it delivered for free, you have to file a claim (the sender does) to get the refund.

USPS will never refund for priority. I ordered a computer, printer, monitor, scanner etc and they got lost for over a month, priority. Feh... they didn't care. I finally got it, but was starting to wonder if it wasn't gone forever. No refund and it was heavy to ship, cost quite a bit to mail.

All in all I love priority mail, considering how many packages they deliver that way, they really do a fantastic job most of the time, it's still the fastest and cheapest thing out there for lighter weight packages like our vaping supplies. But yeah, we all want our stuff and we want it now when we order something.

I'm just glad that most places I order from are super fast at actually getting it to the mailman so they can get it to us, if they were slow shippers, then that would really suck eggs.
