I only use USPS priority, and it's great. I used to pay extra for fedex, which was quick, but since they deliver during work hours I always came home to the little slip stuck on my door. Even if I left them a note they wouldn't always leave the package. With USPS priority everything is on time or faster than expected. My usual vape orders come from the southern states and are delivered to Ma. in 2-4 days. Sometimes the tracking info isn't correct, so I try not to check it too often. Whatever level is below Priority (first class?) tends to be 1 day slower than priority, but can be several days slower.

Here in this small town I live in UPS pays our local PO to deliver some packages to the out lying addresses. This is because they don't want to have to find the customer & the PO makes the route 6 days a week.
Go figure.

Its because its not cost effective for them to brig it to you being off the grid. Seems like kind of a rip hu pay UPS or Fed Ex and the mail man shows up! I went to a speech the Post Master General gave last year you would be surprised at how the gooberment is trying to bankrupt the post office in order to privatize it. If they succeed you would have to go and get your own mail!

Q. How frequently do you have problems with mail delivery?
A. Only on the days that I expect vapemail.

Q. Am I the only one having this problem?
A. No

Q. Is there anything I could do to improve the odds of successful delivery of my orders?
A. Yes, talk to the USPS hub manager and (have detailed examples of all past issues prepared) and express your lack of satisfaction with delivery times/ failed deliveries/ mis-deliveries of Priority Paid Delivery Service. (It is not acceptable that the problem remains routine unless they have a different carrier on the rout every week.

Q. Is there anything I could do to get my vendors to offer alternative delivery options such UPS and FedEx that are much, much, much more reliable?
A. Ask them if they are willing, there is certainly nothing you can do to make them though.

Q. Or, am I doomed to this problem for eternity, or at least until the local post office branch hires some competent personnel who can read, write and comprehend at an elementary school level?
A. Only if you remain a squeakless wheel. You can tell 100 people what your issue is, but if you don't address it with the party that is responsible for it and is able to address it, you won't get anywhere. If you do not receive satifactory mitigation of the problem, talk to the next person up their chain of command.

Be a squeaky wheel to the person who is responsible for maintaining a squeakless operation.

I've never had issues but it could be because I used to work for the post office and my dad still does so they see the name and address and know it's mine. I will say that once I delivered a package that had a big boot print on it...it wasn't MY boot but I didn't want to deliver it because I would have gotten blamed. Sorry you're having issues though. I hope it gets better for you.

Are you saying USPS loses 80% of your mail? That's a lot!

No. The part I quoted is about having problems with them. 80% or so there's some sort of an issue, including lost packages, late deliveries (as in days late), damaged shipping packaging to the point where stuff just falls out of the envelope, etc.

Curious how much of that lost stuff you manage to get back. I have had pretty good luck getting my deliveries, but recently had a package bust open during transit and there was a note saying it was received at my local distribution center with missing contents. Now trying to get them to find the missing stuff is a complete runaround. Basically they jeep saying "they're looking for it and if they happen to find it they'll send it to you. No, there's nobody else you can talk to." If I could, I wouldn't use USPS any more.

I agree with PV Master. I ordered a package from China & it sat in China for 13 days.
Now it arrived in Bethpage, NY where it was "processed thru sort" then "departed' just to be "sorted" again before it left.
Since then it has made stops in Dulles, VA. & Merriweather, VA.
This package arrived in the US 1/20/13. It is now 1/25/13 & it has just left Merriweather, Va.
Next it could go to California trying to get it to Texas. I don't know.
So far it is China 13 days-US 5 days & the Race Is On.
