Rarely I have ever used a coil for more than two or three tankfuls before they not vape as good so I change them out. They get gunked up and change the flavor. I like my vape to be as good as the first few vapes on a new coil. It helps as there is not a stock coil I can not rebuild. I buy my tanks accordingly. I will not buy a tank until I get a used coil first and try to rebuild it. Some tanks like the Cleato, Joytech Delta 2, ( 1.8 coils for the Triton) are just not worth my time so the tank stays in the store. I own 17 different Sub ohm tanks. CHEERS!

If you see the videos, check'em out. I'm not a patient guy by nature, but I'm glad that I learned how to be.

I just started breaking in my last 1.2 coil after priming it the way you stated. I'm hoping for at least 3 days on it. I am however using 70 VG juice with it, so I'm not too confident it'll last. The juice is definitely not on the sweeter side and it's light in color, though. I'm taking the breaking in extra slow, to be on the safer side. Going to try and take this coil as far as possible until I get my next shipment in.

Not going to take the coil more than 20 watts as well, and limit the frequency in which I use it.

Like others said priming is the key. I add liquid to each hole until it slows down absorbing the liquid and do the same thing from the top of the coil, I add no liquid to the center of the coil. Fill the tank with juice and try to leave it alone for 15 minutes or so before I take a hit. Start out with low wattage and work my way up. I use the .25. .5 and Ni .15 coils and they work nicely with this priming method. I get at least two weeks and I vape 50/50 DIY.

I start breaking mine in at 20 watts (no flavor or vapor), working up in 5-watt increments until I get what I like (usually up to 50-70 watts). I usually use 80%VG juice at least (a lot of mine are also max VG) & it works.
Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the input! I'm going to buy some more 0.5 duals and less sweet / dark juices and give that a shot. I am contemplating whether or not I should get the RBA and try my hand at building. I don't know much about it besides that you use wire to form the coil, and depending on the gauge and how many wraps you do, the ohms is decided. Is it hard to get your head around? I've heard a lot of bad things about the Crown's RBA deck (leaking mostly), which has led me from buying it, but after my so far bad experience with stock coils, I have been thinking about it.

FWIW - I got the crown last week and have only tried the 0.5 ohm coil so far. First tank was a 50/50 VG/PG juice. I primed the coil by dropping on top and the sides till the juice wasn't taking any more. First tank of the 50/50 VG/PG juice ripped fine - chain vaped, no dry hits. Then the next 3 tanks have been 90/10 VG/PG juice - same experience. Been using TC mode with the Smok R200. Maybe the 50/50 juice got the cotton "working"? I'll let you know my experience when I try the 1.5 ohm coil. Is that for MTL only?

Edit: I think I almost got a dry hit after the first tank. I was intentionally vaping it with low juice to dry out the cotton for the next juice and also to see if the TC would prevent the dry hit. I felt like the last hit may have been slightly dry - and chickened out to keep going - that's when i filled it up with the 90/10.

I'm a crown man now through and through. I was sick of my kanger subtank minis and nanos burning out coils in 3 days. The .25 coils I'm using with my uwell crowns last around twice as long. ..
And I'm even using the notorious coil destroyer milk man from OHW. I really love my crowns. .. a huge upgrade for my vaping lifestyle.

How much does the initial investment generally cost? I'd likely be making 70/30 to 80/30 VG to PG 30ml 6mg batches most of the time. I tend to lean more towards fruitier flavored juices, I like my juice to be simple but enjoyable. I can't stand how so many juices have 4-5+ flavors going on, what's the point?!

That depends on how much supplies you want. You could start small and get 32oz/1 liter bottles of Pg and VG for around $10 each. A 250ml bottle of 100mg nicotine solution would run around $20-$30. If you're just starting out and want to try a bunch of flavorings you can get 30ml bottles of flavoring concentrates for around $5-$10 each or go even smaller and get 4ml-10ml bottles for $2-$4.

Add in a half dozen of 10ml and 1ml blunt tip syringes and a half dozen bottles to mix the juice in and you're looking at a total investment of around $100 and will have enough to make around 2,500ml of juice. Your cost of production would be 25ml per $1 spent.

If you want to go big you can get 1 US gallon of both PG and VG for around $50 shipped and a 1 liter of 100mg nic base for around $50. That's enough base ingredients to make around 8,000ml of unflavored juice for $100. Then you just need the flavorings, syringes to measure with, and juice bottles to mix and store in. Figure $150 total investment for nearly 9,000ml of flavored juice, for a production costs around $1 per 60ml.

I went big, and even my most expensive mixes cost less than $6 per 250ml bottle to make.

I looked into RBA's and from what I read I definitely will not be buying the Crown's RBA. What -true- RBA do you own? It seems to be an interesting and freeing thing, not to mention fun. Being able to determine what ohms you're using, the material for wicking, and building in different ways to achieve different results. Gives a much more thorough experience than stock coils alone I'd bet. Which is another reason I'm looking into DIY'ing.

By -true- RBA, do you mean a tank setup that is solely for rebuilding on, or simply a good one?

By -true- RBA I mean an atty that is solely designed for rebuilding, not as a marketing afterthought. Look for an RTA with velocity build deck, top fill and adjustable airflow capable of suiting your inhale style. The atty sub-forums are the place to go for detailed information on current top performers. With RBAs you don't have to worry about how gunky your favorite juice is, you get top flavor and they're 100X less expensive to maintain.

From my experience with the UWELL crown prebuilt coils 1.2, 0.5, 0.25 the 1.2 has the shortest life. Mine lasted for about a week.

Vaping halo eliquid exclusively which I believe is higher in PG.

The .5 with 50/50 juice lasted quite longer. 2 weeks and on.

Imo get an rta. The self built coils will last longer than any prebuilt. And you can just change the wick and pop in another flavor once u finish the tank. Sort of like dripping but of course taking a while longer
