v4l passthrough and carts

The USB-port is protected with a polyfuse under USB2.0 standards. If you over-draw it, it will shutdown the port. Remove the device and wait a few seconds and it'll reset. In a worst-case scenario, you may need a reboot to find the port again.

There are some melodramatic people out there that will tell you their PC caught fire and killed their cat then exploded reducing large skyscrapers in the vicinity to rubble and knocking the Hubble's mirrors out of alignment again... When you go look, the buildings are still standing, the Hubble is/was fine, and their cat is still leaving piles on my front lawn where Thor! can't get to them...

Ok back to OT. I have used it in my comp and found it to work perfectly fine on my laptop. Just plug it into your left USB if you ahve a laptop!

You might have read one of my posts about analogs - the tar in analogs will wreck a PC motherboard and you can't get the tar off. There's no tar in e-cigs so nothing to worry about.

PT's are fine. Just be sure if your carto is low not to use it on a PT. That can burn the carto and yes, can catch fire if you leave on/near anything flammable because it will burn out the juice and keep heating the carto, which will melt. It won't harm your PC. It's just a matter of thinking of it as an open electric source, like a burner. You wouldn't leave an open burner unattended while you go do something else.

I unplug my PT between uses for safety of the PT, itself and now keep it in a coffee mug so if the shut off switch hasn't completely stopped the electricity flow, it can't harm a thing.

I just got a passthrough from v4l and I'm using a new blueberry cart with it. I'm loving it! But something tells me I've read somewhere that passthrough's cause computer problems. Is that so? I sure hope not cuz I love this new way to vape

Enough energy to melt the plastic off of a carto. Underneath the color coating, is a finished metal which hot or overheated was enough to start to burn through my normally powered PC's mouse. I didn't think I had enough of a sense of smell but, while it is quite less than whoever claimed it can blow things up, it has an 'on fire' smell.

The technical specifics, while they were of interest to the computer tech who replaced my motherboard, have little to do putting a reasonable amount of caution into anything with a power flow. There is almost always a small current left in a corded electric object. When that energy has already moved past the cut off switch, it will expel outwards, in this case into the carto, while the remainder below the cut off switch, moves downward towards the auto protected USB end.

The same thing happens if you have a phone with a USB port. If you shut off your phone at the same time as you unplug the USB from the port, but don't unplug the cord into your phone, it will take longer to shut off than if you were to shut it off on battery power. But, in that case, your phone has nothing electrical exposed - the extra charge goes directly into the phone, itself.

Exactly. Especially not during one of either my physics or natural sciences competition exams. Although, honestly, I've seen it all. Some teams enter students for the one-team-point "participation" credit. Easy to spot, it's the ones that stare blankly at expressions like: "non-inductive load", "back EMF", or thermodynamics laws then come up with an answer that reads like science fiction, sans the "science"...

They're the same ones that think they're going to power their town via solar panels or wind farms...

It doesn't reproduce. No homeostasis, no metabolism, doesn't respond to stimuli, doesn't adapt through natural selection. By definition, it's not "live", it's "inanimate".

Electricity was most likely well-harnessed thousands of years before Franklin.

Electrons flow from ground to the potential versus conventional current...

But to bring it back around to our reinvention of physics earlier: No "electricity" goin' anywhere without a complete circuit. Period, end of that discussion. Nor does it just hang around inside a wire, smokin' a cigarette, lying in wait as it were... Electricity moves in a loop, always. Energy doesn't [necessarily]

I got to hand it to you, Addy, when you get off topic to someone's question, you really get off topic.

I did not say electricity is life. By live, I meant it moves in opposite flows and like flows, which is what the PT cut off switch causes it to do, in the opposite.

Historical understanding can be as helpful as is it when someone asking a simple concern/question is bombarded with technical facts about their PC that is distinct from the V4L PT function sort it out and make their own decision.

In fact, several people have stated unplugging their PT is standard practise.
If you don't want to unplug yours, that's your decision. But, it has nothing to do with physics and everything to do with how electricity moves through the PT, which is a natural phenomenon of the nature of electrics that has been applied to more specific areas of physics.

Don't get so high and mighty with me about links. There's a reason so many link to wiki and only you don't. Think about that. I didn't post it for you, regardless.

Assumptions will get you nowhere outside of lab. This isn't rocket science.

Your jovial reply may be amusing but is impractical and patronizing to the questioner who posed a simply concern. No one should have to be nervous about their PT and just enjoy vaping and often times that requires practical on-topic explanations and sharing so others don't make similar errors, with the clarity that their PC is not going to blow up. It's only fair.

Thanks though for your partial summary of the wiki page. It can't be both ways. "Electricity isn't going nowhere" but "It's not going to hang around in a wire".

In a PT the electricity has not moved from the ground but is moving from the PC into it. The cut off switch sends opposite charges to interrupt the electrical flow, forcing the current to go in both directions. When it moves towards the cap it finds the wire. The other direction it's grounder is the inner plastic in the USB port. There's not enough electricity in it at that point to damage anything but, it can spark. When I unplug mine I take the carto off and the mug acts to stop whatever flow moves towards it. That is my preference for extra safety (this part is also not directed to you Addy).

Addy, I'm sorry that you seem to continue to have so many problems with my having my own opinion, my own reasons for posting my own answers and my own personal issues but, I'm quite sure you'll get over it b4 lunch.

Why don't you just block me then you won't 'have to' read posts you find so beneath you? You say you like to keep things simple? By all means do what you like and think what you want. One day you may learn to allow others with questions the same courtesy and they'll read your simple posts the exact same way as you do? Don't try to play me.
