If you send it to Chowderhead, send it as is, he may be able to recover it. Don't melt the insulator. Just give it to him. They are really tight, you need the best quality screwdriver tip that fits the slot properly and a means of clamping the atty base to allow sufficient force to
thread into the insulator. The slot on my pin was damaged at the factory when the person assembling it slipped.
If you have damaged the slot trying to screw the pin in, it is likely that you can still screw it out, dress up the slot with a jewellers file, and try again. I use a flat blade tip that has sufficient thickness to fill the slot nice and snug. I think I ground down the width of the tip with a bench grinder. To hold the atty I drilled a hole in a piece of wood and forced the atty base (upside down) into it so the pin was facing up. It has to be a reasonably tight fit. If the hole is a touch too big, wrap some masking tape around the base to make it a tight fit.
