Good morning all, time for some coffee. Time to get a new coffee brewer ours went caput and doing instant right now.
Ouch, rough morning!
If the heating elements are caput... You can boil the water and slowly run it through the coffee maker basket. My mother's been doing that for weeks...(I'm going to surprise her with a new unit, this week)
Me, I'm enjoying a Nicaraguan Magaragype, medium brew... :p

The heating element is fine, the water will no longer go through the spout. We have very hard water around here. If you have a minor leak in plumbing just give it a few days and it will fix itself.

AH - Then I have a DUMB question for Ya', especially since I know Ya' already know this one . . . Do "You" know that To Remove HARD WATER SENTIMENT from heating elements that Ya' can run White Vinegar through coffee pot, let cool 15 mins or more - then rinse with cold water as though you are making coffee at least 2 times to remove any leftover vinegar/taste from machine . . . Coffee Machine is usually GOOD (well almost) as NEW (I have hard water too and do this at least every 4/6 months :)) . . . Just Sayin' . . .;)

I have done this a few times, and it works great, not quite as good as using CLR, but a LOT less toxic as well and cheaper.
While deployed to Iraq they would just get this mineral water for the logiest time, would destroy our coffee makers fast and no place to get vinegar or anything else to dislodge the build up.
OK it is still uploading, funny video of a not so perfect flight yesterday, but the plane was fine, 10 second repair and she was off flying again.

I don't use a traditional "drip" coffee maker, but vinegar works great on those and water cooler machines. Eventually even filtered water leaves a buildup. Only pure H2O leaves no residue at all and that stuff doesn't taste good. I'm still a proud owner of one of these (no double boiler for me):

My well water is hard enough to laugh at vinegar, even the 9% acidity stuff. I have to use "The Works" (20% Hydrochloric Acid) on toilet bowls to get the hard water residue off. That stuff is strong enough to pit stainless steel. Undiluted CLR works pretty well in the shower, luckily. Can't use that stuff in a coffee machine though...

When we were in NY, there was a coffe shop in Tribecca near our hotel called 'All good things' that only used the chemex style of brewing. Great coffee, terrible overpriced pastries :)

G'nite everyone!
