vamo v5 mounting idea

I'm planning a vamo v5 wood mod, and I have a question. Why doesn't anyone ever mount these boards with the buttons out where you can use them? I'm sure there is a reason but I can't see it without the chip in hand. I can see my wood will be too thick but I have a idea for that. Why couldn't I mount the board to a thin piece of stainless with cut outs for the screen and buttons and enough flange to attach to my wood. The hole it the wood would be big enough for the whole board. Does this make sense?

Yes; you mount the board on a flat metal plate, cut a hole in the wood a bit smaller than the metal plate, and screw the plate onto the wood

It seemed feasible to me, but from what I see everyone wires in remote buttons and just does a cut out for the screen if they even do that. I thought possibly there reason, like the buttons Suck or something like that. Maybe people just want the fire button in a different orientation to the screen

You can use the existing switches that are on the Vamo board. You can even re-use the factory buttons, like I did. :2c: :)

That's exactly what I'm taking about! Nice work JohnnyDill! I've seen done of your posts. You actually inspired me too use this board to begin with. Did you do a build thread? If so can I get a link?

:) Thanks for the kind words. No build thread here. This is a Vamo V5, an 18650 and a charging chip crammed into a very small aluminum enclosure made from scrap laying around my shop. It was a major PITA to do. I have many images of this build and other projects over on my profile albums. Feel free to visit. :toast:

Sweet shop equipment. I'm a certified welder at a power plant. Don't have a lot of machinist expertise but do happen to have a fellow vape friendfriendin the machine shop. I see milling a face plate in his future! How does that little jewel run for you? Can you vape all day with it? I get 2 days on a 1300mah ego style (not dead then just haven't tried for 3) so from what I read my usage is real low.

:) I am a self employed / work at home rack specialist in the metal finishing / automotive paint industry, but the equipment is there for mod projects. Why not? {most of what I do to pay the bills is simple MIG with HR steel}

The battery life is great on the Vamo box but I have never really vaped from it exclusively all day. I may do things differently than most. When I create a DIY juice recipe that I truly love, I assign an RBA/RTA of that flavor and marry it to a particular mod. I keep building more mods as I have more go-to juices these days. That Vamo box is assigned to my "Boba's" clone that is vaped with a Russian that has been modded for increased airflow.

So I switch off between 4 or 5 mods all day. In the morning, I charge all of them at once. None are lower in voltage than 3.9V at charging time. :vapor:
