Hey guys,
so a little background first, Three days ago i decided i didn't like the shiny stainless look of the e-huge so i went about changing it. I took the entire mod apart and cleaned all the peices and used my caswell plating stainless blackener i had at home. End result, thing looked amazing. Well during the course of this i somehow slipped the circuit board loose from where it was sitting in the tube, which broke one of the little micro switches for up and down power control. Looking further i found i had destroyed the board from the switch breaking and the ground wire was pulled out from the circuit board. With these two things i first though this mod was now just an expensive large paper weight.

Then i had the brilliant idea to replace the broken board with a DNA30. I've wanted a dna mod for some time now, can get the board direct, couple switches, why not it's at least worth a try.

Now the hard part, i'm going to order a DNA30 tonight to get it here, my biggest question deals with the ribbon cable to the screen. For those of you who have workings with this chip how fragile is the cable truly, and is there any way to orientate the screen to board other than the screen behind the board. Every build i have seen for DIY DNA30 builds the were boxes with the screen under the board Vertical/Vertical, is it possible to put the screen horizontal with the board vertical? The contol tube of the e-huge is about the same size as an 18650 mod so the chip should fit in, but the screen cutout is already horizontal which doesn't work.

Any thoughts or ideas guys? Worst case i will put the screen behind the board vertical/vertical and have a cutout in the back of the tube you'd have to look at through the bars. i'd just really like to keep the orentation of the buttons and screen the same.

Think of vamo layout for anyone that has any questions. I'll get preliminary pictures posted after i get home from work.

Thanks

Don't think it would work as you want...the display is longer than the display you currently have and the ribbon cable is not long enough for you to orient it like you want in the tube. But, I've not tried it so here is a link to the DNA specs so you can take some measurements for yourself:

Good luck

I was afraid of that, i had looked at the evolv web site and been looking at the datasheet, even made a cardboard dummy from the specs but it is looking that it just may not happen. i wasn't so much worried that the screen was wider than the vamo screen, anyone have any experience with trying to reinstall the ribbon cable on the board?

Maybe someone has a board and screen that they did break the cable they'd be willing to send me for a small fee. i just don't want this thing to end up as a horrible reminder that i f'ed it up and can't do anything about it.

Does the E Huge use a Vamo board? Looks like it would. They have replacement Vamo boards over at vaporbreak.com for $12.60. I ordered one last week for a small mod I was going to build. Taking the slow boat from China though so it should be here before Christmas(only half kidding). Also its the Vamo V5 with the OLED screen according to the description.

yes, it does have a vamo board. and that may be my best route to get this thing back up and going. i'd still like to find someone that has a dna chip that they may have ruined/broken and see what i could do with one.
I have already talked with a local machine shop about making a new control board tube that would have new buttons and a cutout for the dna screen which could really work out. Would be a one of a kind that is for sure.
Thanks for the help guys and if someone does have a dna board they would love to send me (free or small fee) so i could see if maybe my crazy idea would actually work.
