Hi all,
New here.
Been vaping a couple of years now and have been using the EGO-T system.
Finally decided to upgrade and bought a VAMO from a friend of mine. The problem that I am having is that I bought some
18650 UltraFire batteries and the machine will turn on once in a while, not all the time, and when it does it does not work.
I have been assured that my machine is good. Have I bought the wrong batts for the thing?

In a word - yes. You need some good quality IMR batteries for a mod like this.

An IMR 18650 is the long size, and an IMR 18350 the short size. The lifespan will depend on the number of charge cycles, which is about 500 charges. Generally you would replace them after a year.

A lot of people get the batteries and chargers from RTD Vapor. Here's what you would need:

Charger:
Battery Chargers : Xtar WP2 II

Any of these batteries - two of whichever brand:
18605s
AW IMR 18650 2000 mAh
or
Batteries : Efest IMR 18650 Button Top
or
Batteries : Panasonic Hybrid/ IMR CGR18650CH Button Top

18350s:
Batteries : AW IMR 18350 3.7V 700mAh
or
Batteries : Efest IMR 18350 Button Top

If you want to know more about batteries I suggest reading the ECF guide:

Thanks! This is all new to me. Been using the EG-T for a long time.
Thanks again.

Your friend sold their VAMO? They cannot be well!
I've been vaping for about a month and after one false start got a hold of the version 2 variable wattage VAMO and a genesis atomiser. This is an amazing device and an amazing bargain - I am very glad to have landed with this before spending 5 times as much on say a pro vari which does less (that would have hurt).
AFAIK there has been an issue with loose batteries and the wrong size spring in earlier models. Apart from that it does have a habit of requiring an indeterminate number of clicks on the fire button to start it up, sometimes it may be 6 or 7 instead of 5 to turn it either on or off.
The display should illuminate when you insert a charged battery, without the device being activated, and it should then be 5,6,7 clicks in rapid succession to switch it on, when it should say 'on'.
After that, the functions are detailed here :- A PBusardo Review - The Vamo - YouTube
In particular hold down the left hand small button for three seconds to see what voltage your cells have. One of the nice things about this is that the mod will refuse to operate if the voltage is too low (and if the coils resistance is too low) it's essentially fool proof.

All true Hopeless Junkie. It also shuts down with some cheap protected batteries, as a number of users have found. It needs IMRs.

Meaning that LiMn2O4 (LMO) is a 'significant component of the cathode' ?

Fortunately I lucked out and got AW 2600 IMR as well.

But, with all this talk of explosions and whatnot I would like to try one of these :-

Mic4576wt 3a 200khz Reg

on the end of a surplus to requirements laptop power supply (19V 40W) in the 5V 3A configuration and use this to power the VAMO as a 'pass through' when I'm at home...

Sadly I'm having a deal of trouble finding the right place to put this idea, any offers?

You should post this in the modding forum - people there may be able to help. The OP has moved from an Ego to a Vamo and needs the right batteries - your question is a modding one about a regulator.

The Vamo is the bargain of the moment and makes the Lavatube look sick. OK it weighs a tonne and the build quality isn't quite Provari but performance wise it punches well above its price.

Two months thus far on my Vamo and a couple days now on my mechanical newly 'Can'd and cycling 2 18650 every 1.5 days. I Vape 3-5ml somes days at 3.0ohms nd they are barely warm with extensive use.
I picked both brands for their popularity nd didn't find a bad review. And Xtar WP2 ~$25 i got works really well with no issues. Best of luck
