Does vanilla need to steep for 3-4 weeks? That may explain why I can't taste mine....frustrating

I don't think steeping hurts any flavor honestly. I usually am too impatient to wait 3-4 weeks for anything, so I speed up steep times with scolding hot baths several days in a row.

What % are you working at? I've heard that too much flavor can sometimes mask it, but I've never experienced that myself personally. Could be that you're using too little?

i was using e juice me up, 50/50 100mg nic base, down to 24mg, at 50/ 50, 25% classic vanilla(FA) and 5% EM @ 1gm per 10 ml. just tastes like nothing, smells awesome? oh and it has been sitting since the 6th

Sounds like 25% might be too high, but I haven't worked with that flavor in particular. I'd start around 5% with 1 or 2% em. You'd think the end result to over-flavoring would be very intense and taste horrible, but with some flavors it completely consumes it. I'd be interested in the science behind that..

Yes. 25% definitely may be too high... Maybe take some of the completed mixture and start adding base back to it until you get the taste right. Just make sure you're paying attention to how much base (vg/pg/nic) you're adding so you know for future reference.

ok soi cutit in half and added base, still nothing, so i added more base, flavor came up to a hint, am i missing something here? vinegar maybe, the fruity stuff comes up nice but i need an adv. confused

How much base did you add? Did you cut the flavoring to 12% or so? I think 7 or 8 might do it. . .Add more base?

15ml to start, tookout half ish,add 4 ml base, added 1 more, and then 3 more of base, going to have to give it a day just to be fair

If I understand correct you now have somewhere close to 7.5 ml of original formula base, and and additional 9ml base you've recently added. That should put you somewhere around 12% flavoring. I'm afraid that might still be too much, but maybe not. Let us know how that goes. If I were you I'd put 3-4 more ml in if this current formula isn't enjoyable.

I like the diyflavorshack French vanilla I just wish it was stronger seems really weak to me. I have also tried the Natures Flavors Vanilla Cream (since I really liked their Caramel Cream) but ehhh it wasn't good IMHO. It was one of those flavors that had a strong alcohol/chemical taste to it. I'm not crazy about the TFA vanilla either had a weird plastic like taste or something hard to explain. Finding the perfect Vanilla has been a tough one but right now I'm liking the FlavourArt Vanilla Classic, maybe give that one a try? It smells like the type of vanilla used for baking and has a nice soft taste to it.

ok so i added another 3 ml and noticed it changed a bit so i went for broke and added another 2 to it, for a total of 5ml added on top of the previous 9, it is very amber coloured now as opposed to the dark opaque fluid it was. i think i will nuke it one last time for 8 secs and shaka shaka shaka...

Well I shook a shook a shook a, and well it's got some flavour to it. I am Leary to go any more, I think I'll try this for a bit and see if some time brings it up a bit further. BTW. Thanks very much for the help I was kinda getting to the end of my rope.

ok so i let it sit a bit and now its back to no flav again, so taking notes like i have i added 1 more and tried it, nothing agian and the juice is almost clear. i got my brand new vamo today. so i tried it all over the place in v and w just ot see if it was from the crappy ego non twists i was using, still nothing, i am now going to try a different tank, all my taste tests have been done in my protank sans vamo so far, i have a clone dual coil low ohm jobby that im going to try now, i think i may have to start adding flavour back??

lol I think it's gonna take a bit of work to find what you're looking for. Start with little flavor, you can always add. Subtracting by adding base is way more of a PITA than adding a few drops in increments.

I can tell it's going to be hard to determine a vanilla winner, so I got a vanilla showdown brewing at the moment. I've 3 bottles staged and steeping each around 10ml, that I'll review within the week depending on how long I leave them. The first is Hangsen, 10 drops in a 9ml 70/30 base, 2 drops sweetener. The second, 9ml 70/30 base, again 10 drops Hangsen, 15 drops RY4 double, 2 drops sweetener. The third, the contender, TFA's vanilla swirl, 9ml 70/30, 1ml Vanilla Swirl, 15 drops RY4 Double, 2 drops sweetener. I've already vaped Vanilla Swirl by itself and it was fantastic much better after steeping several days - but still incomplete, so I'll skip adding it to the showdown. Really I want to take away which one compliments the RY4 Double better, but if HS vanilla is tasty on it's own then I'll start experimenting it with other flavors like chocolate or licorice.

I've spent some quality time with these blends, almost 10ml each through identical setups. There are some differences between TFA and Hangsen Vanilla, but they are very subtle - both of these share similar flavor notes. Vanilla Swirl has a faintly sweeter tone but I think ultimately HS Vanilla is slightly more enjoyable and truer to the vanilla I'm looking for. Neither of these overwhelmed the blend like many vanilla's I've mixed at lower percentages. Both would work great in a mix that called for vanilla IMO. Because they were so similar I can't really determine which is better. My personal preference leans just a little toward HS.

I'm going to have to continue experimenting to find a really good french vanilla using these flavors. Any recommendations?
