A few months ago the Mrs. started teaching me a little bit about pairing wines with desserts and such. I had never really thought much about pairing until then. As it turns out, all the hype about pairing is true! Pairing the right kind of wine with foods makes an enormous difference to the food and wine...but, what about vaping?

I just received a bottle of Nutty from BWB and my first impression, while it is indeed a quality juice, was that I probably would rarely vape it. It is just really nutty. It is almost like grabbing a hand full of mixed nuts and vaping the combined flavor. While this may appeal to some tastebuds, it did not quite do it for me...until I inadvertently tried it with a quality hot cocoa.

I never thought I could go from being barely cool on a juice to loving it the next day. The cocoa was a semi sweet, dark chocolate flavor with a hint of vanilla. That drink primed my palette in such a way as to make the nuttiness of Nutty beyond pleasurable. OMG! It was/is good! This got me thinking... it is not quite the same thing to vape the same flavors as you drink (like I did a while back with coffee flavors). To contrast and join flavor profiles that like and or accentuate each other is the way to go (IMHO).

Now when I try a juice, I think about what I can pair it with to really generate some vaping bliss.

Pairing and vaping is becoming very exciting to me!

Is anyone out there like a vaping sommelier of sorts? I would like to know what are some of the drinks you pair with particular juices (or general flavors).

Very interesting. I'd like to know too, as I've been thinking a lot lately about what beverages would best complement my juices. Hope some folks chime in here.

I'm usually found with a cup of coffee or a glass of water at my side while vaping, but I've surmized for a while now that there are much better drinks to pair with my juices. I've just been too lazy to experiment, and also I don't have a keen sense of taste... or at least identifying flavors, and what would go well with what.

Thanks for your suggestion that contrasting flavors is a step in the right direction, and I'm glad that you found such a satisfying combo.

Think bitter and sweet. I mean, it doesn't always work, but I have tried chocolate with sea salt and it was amazing.

Now with vaping, I am going to start with less of contrasting flavors and more, shall I say, analogous flavors? I would say the hot cocoa and nutty flavors are more analogous than contrasts (though there will always be some contrast in different flavors). I am going to get BWB Honey Flue to vape with my green tea next. It really can be as easy as taking cues from preexisting drink combos, e.g. Corona and lime, Blue Moon and orange, hot cider and cinnamon, ,or even chai latte (which reminds me I saw a chai juice that I would love to try with steamed milk;) I think the initial possibilities are endless, we just have to start experimenting.

Whether contrasting, complimenting, or going the analogous route, I think this is going to be really fun. It also may bring some juices out of the drawer that are good flavors but just never seem to be good as a stand alone vape.

EXACTLY!!!!!! So, I literally just went and grabbed a glass of red wine that I had in the other room, grabbed a juice (that I generally don't care for) and vaped as you said. WTF? The juice is Highbrow RY4 which I never really liked because I didn't really appreciate the subtle chocolate notes with the RY4 mix. But, yo this is right!

Thanks! Let's keep this up! You just gave me my red wine vape:p

Post #4 is why I started this. 36tinybells made my week last night  I had really wanted to like Highbrow Ry4, but just could not get into it. I have a small glass of red wine at least every other night, and had yet to find anything that could do the flavor dance with it.

Hey 36tinybells, it doesn't have to be a slew of others chiming in here. We could commiserate! After all, your suggestion worked well!!!!

p.s. I used a sweet red wine with a lot of raspberry notes (which is probably why that subtle chocolate came alive). Interestingly, the wine was a little too sweet for me (which is why it was in the other room) until I paired it. So, all together the wine and Highbrow Ry4 were much better together than living the single life.

This is a GREAT thread! I just wish I had something more imaginative to contribute to it . . :(

I will say that I love to pair good coffee or waffle vapes with an actual cup of coffee . . . kinda obvious, huh?

I can also attest that NiteLiteVapor's new Twilite (which I love on its own) pairs deliciously with a nice dry Champagne (got to try that combo out Easter Sunday!). It is a mild, straight-up tobacco with just a teensy hint of citrus (lemon peel?), that beautifully compliments the dry subtle flavors of a good champagne. :)

Hey, any suggestion helps. As far as it being more imaginative? Look, if it pairs well, then that is all that matters. I like to think of this as a (possible) new art. I would definitely like to see this grow.

If anyone is interested in another combo that works, I found out that BWB 555 Exotic is absolutely terrific with a gently steeped (about 90 seconds) green tea. It is very important not to steep the green tea too long or it will get very bitter, dry and chalky (I believe over steeping is why some peole don't like green tea). I used about a half teaspoon of agave nectar as a sweetener and vaped the 555 Exotic at 4.5 volts on a standard resistance Boge carto. The 555 Exotic paired with the green tea showed off its exotically sweet, nutty, subtle citrus notes on the inhale and exhale! This pairing was super clean, bright, and refreshing!

The BWB Nutty worked well with the green tea (maybe even better than the hot cocoa) but, the 555 Exotic and green tea is nothing less than complete!

I am really digging my morning coffee with a chocolate mint flavored juice I got from Dark City Vapors. I also like Vermillion River's cinnamon roll in the morning. I drink a glass of Riesling nearly every night and would love to find a perfect vape for that relaxing time :) Suggested pairings for pale beers would be nice to hear...
Great thread!! I hope more people respond!

Riesling, hmmm...Any specific brand or just general? Sweet or dry?

Shoot, tell me what you drink and I will grab a bottle and start experimenting. I most likely will be pairing with Ms.T's Bakery, BWB, and maybe one other. I am starting to limit my go-to vendors so I can explore the artisanal approaches more deeply. I think (as of late), limiting vendors is the way to go (at least for some period of time). So, if you wouldn't mind telling me the specs or the brand name of the wine, I will be pairing it with the aforementioned vendors flavors.

p.s. What have you tried to pair with the Riesling? Was it decent or a wash? Oh, and what beer specifically?

Mr.Mann, thanks so much for becoming my personal sommelier, lol! I drink sweet whites generally and lately have settled on a fairly cheap Riesling (sorry, too lazy to go check the brand...), to which I add a little diet 7up (yep, I'm upscale!). So it ends up being pretty sweet. I am a pretty new vaper, and although I have a ton of sample juices, I really only like the flavor of a few, none of which really work with my wine, or beer for that matter. I have a Sweet Strawberry Freeze from DCV that I like and it works ok with the wine, but I would prefer vaping something a little LESS sweet since the wine is so sweet. I am waiting on some cherry tobacco juice that might be interesting with it. I have a melonbacco from BWB that I am letting steep (a little perfumy for me at first) and that may work well too.

7up? :?: I think your honesty is what is upscale:nun: Now, the melonbacko may work, but I have yet to order mine (I have a a huge lot of bottles from BWB about to be ordered). Yeah, see the whole sweet on sweet doesn't work, unless you really don't care to distinguish and inform the two flavors. For instance, I am a painter, and if I want red to stand out in a painting it will be more difficult to achieve that by putting it next to another shade of red...you know? So, if the wine is sweet (or super sweet in your case) then I would go with maybe a woody, or even peppery/spicy kind of vape (like a pipe tobacco type). Those are all just my random guesses though.

I will be using a medium sweet wine (blufeld), and an in-between medium dry and medium sweet wine (Chateau Ste. Michelle), so when i get close to a good pair you can go pick up one of those. One problem you might have with those brands, which are both inexpensive, is that they both have a "do not mix with 7-up" label on the cork;)

You don't even want to know all the quirky things people don't admit!

Do you drink green tea? What are some of the other beverages (non alcoholic) that you enjoy. I think teas are very good way to go with pairing (though I am just embarking) since your mouth is already warm, the flavors can be more acute without feeling the warmth of the vape. Not that a warm vape isn't great (even with cold drinks), but I think your palette has to re-register the temperature before full flavor can be processed. Try this: run your tap water cold and on your tongue for approximately 10 seconds and then immediately vape your favorite juice. Wait a few seconds and the turn off the cold water and run it hot on your tongue until it reaches a good warmth and then vape the same juice. I don't think one is necessarily better, but definitely different.

I've always loved the combination of chocolate and mint flavours, and ended up taking a few puffs of chocolate juice right after brushing my teeth the other morning! Lol. Ended up picking up mints to enjoy while vaping to keep the flavour combo going!

Are you saying you have chocolate vapes? If that is your thing, try a mint hot cocoa, peppermint tea, or drink with creme de menthe or peppermint schnapps (maybe it will be too sweet?). If you try the alcohol pairings, just make sure whatever mixed drink you get is about the mint with no added chocolaty flavors.

What chocolate juice do you vape?

I have been working on the pairing thing, except I tend to try to match what I am vaping with whatever beer I am drinking. I first started doing this when was enjoying a Scots Pine Ale (kind of obscure with a distinct pine aftertaste) and happened to be testing out a chocolate covered cherry from C2G. I didn't care for it at first (the juice), then I took a drink of the beer before my next draw and it was like magic. I keep 10ml around of that just to try with certain beers. When I am drinking something simple, like Budweiser, I have been really hooked on VAL's STL Gooey Butter Cake. But that combo kind of in reverse (vape then drink). I saw this post and am about to pour me a glass of Pinot Noir; I may have to break out the atty and some different juices for tonight!
