Hey all,

I just started vaping a couple months ago and I'm looking for some help with a problem I've been having. My brother in law gave me an Aspire Pegasus that he no longer wanted. I like it for its wide range of options and adjustable wattage/resistance. I bought an Aspire k3 bottom coil tank to go on it with 1.8 ohm coils. I've been using 18650 batteries and noticed that every time I pull one off the charger and insert it, the liquid is being burnt and tastes awful. It lasts for a few hits but then subsides and goes back to normal.

The coils I have are rated for 10-14 watts and I typically keep my vape at 10 watts so I'm not sure why this happens. Could I run it at a lower wattage than recommended? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the mod you're using, but a regulated mod shouldn't do that! It should provide the same power to your tank no matter the battery's state-of-charge!
Some mods are “boost/buck” converters, meaning they can adjust the voltage either up or down from the battery’s charge state. Some, however, don’t have the “buck” part and can’t lower the voltage, only raise it. With high resistance and low wattage, this can cause them to hit a bit “hard” on a fresh battery when the desired voltage is less than the minimum output (charge state).

Yeah, that's a good point. The DNA20 and DNA30 were like that. But that should not be a problem with a 1.8 ohm coil. With a full 4.2V, a 1.8 ohm coil would be at 9.8 watts.

When you put the new battery in does the mod ask if its a new coil or not? If it does, say yes to new coil. It may be misreading the existing coil's resistance and changing either amps or volts on you until it gets a stable reading of the coil and battery. This might account for more heat to the coil and the burning you are experiencing.

If you have an early version of the Pegasus you may be experiencing the temp. mode auto detect where the mod sends 30 watts to the atomizer to sense what type of wire you're using.

From the Aspire Web site found here...
First Impression of the Pegasus - Aspire New Products release Discussions on Aspire Forums

A cut and paste from some of that thread...

" Now - the MAJOR problem. When a tank is changed, the Pegasus correctly shows a new resistance but refuses to adjust the voltage regardless of what wattage has been set. For example - I like to fire one 0.5 ohm coil at 23 Watts. This coil is read by another mod at 0.46 ohm, the Pegasus reads it at 0.42 ohm. On the other mod I'd expect around it to fire at 3.25v based on a calculator - this mod reports that it fires at 3.25v. The Pegasus wont fire at anything like 23 Watts for at least 3 seconds - I have to actually fire it at 3.54v; this equates to around 30 Watts and you can feel (and hear!) the coil receiving too much power for those first few seconds before it ramps the power down and behaves properly.
I don't understand this at all - my other wattage adjustable mods adjust the voltage as appropriate and I get an appropriate level of power for the settings I've chosen.

I tried with two nautilus tanks both with 1.6 ohm coils (although they each read slight different on mods) - these fire at ridiculously high voltage compared to their rating. They start off at over 7v - that's 30 watts being pushed through a coil that reads 1.69 ohms. How can this possibly be acceptable? "

That mod is malfunctioning. A workaround would be to dial the power down when you change batteries so it doesn't carbonize the coil and then dial it back up when that power surge stops. Ultimately I'd consider getting another mod.

No, it is functioning as designed. It's just a stupid design. :)
This is covered in the links above.

Almost as stupid as mods that revert to maximum wattage after battery change, and almost as stupid as I felt when I forgot this and vaped a coil and liquid designed for 15 watts at 85 watts.

Absolutely. The kicker is, its just code...why let it it out the door that way?
SOMEONE at these companies must vape, right?

I have a few SMOK Alien 220s, if you put it in your pocket before the screen turns off you run the risk of turn wattage down to 6w or up to 220w, very unpleasant and al most painful to vape a coil that was set to 70w at 220w.

It was my Smok Al85 Baby Alien that goes to max wattage after battery change if you take more than a few seconds to do it.

From the Pegasus manual

Does your Pegasus do this when reinserting the battery?

My Minikin did that with a Freemax Fireluke Mesh. I didn't realize it and took a big pull at 180 watts.
