I recently read a report (I don't remember where, someone here may know) that stated the average of smokers that quit by switching to e-cigs isn't substantial enough for anyone to make the claim that they are a safer and more effective way to stop smoking compared to other cessation products. It showed a graph that had the annual average of smokes bought from the past few years compared to each other, and saw no decline in relation to e-cig sales. The punchline of the article said that users of e-cigs aren't actually quitting, that they're just picking up another habit along with still smoking cigarettes.
That blew my mind. I've been smoke free for a few months now since I've been vaping and I didn't even try to quit, it just happened. I've seen hundreds posts from folks (on this forum and others) saying the same thing. So after I read that article, I got to thinking about how we could actually pull some numbers and see what the average poster here has done so far by making a poll of sorts. Have you quit smoking completely after picking up vaping? If you have quit, how long did it take? Do you vape but still smoke with the intent to quit eventually? Or maybe you vape but still smoke with no intentions of quitting?
I know some here may be embarrassed or unwilling to say that they haven't or can't quit, and that's fine. I definitely don't want anyone feeling alienated for whatever reason, so if you'd rather not answer, don't feel like you have to. There's a huge amount of people here in this forum (this is the biggest e-cig forum in the web, is it not?) and with the weight this place carries, I'd love to see this become something useful and start a trend among other e-cig forums. If we got the results I think we would get, it would be a huge advantage for us if presented to CASAA. The anti-ecig groups couldn't argue with those numbers in our favor. (Also, if this has been done before or is frowned upon in any way, my apologies.)
What do yall think?
