(Not to be an idiot, do they have chinese mustard down under? A spicy horseradish if I'm not mistaken, that burns like hell but goes away quickly)

I've never heard of chinese mustard, but we have a large population of chinese, so I'm sure it would be available. well, I'm assuming chinese mustard is chinese.
sushi is big down under, and I love wasabi, watered down with a little soy sauce, and wasabi saves me from having to trim my nose hair.

maybe chinese mustard will save me form having to trim my ear hair.

thanks peeps.

To be honest, although I've always assumed it was "authentic" I'm not actually sure. However, in the US it's one of the staple condiments (along with soy sauce and duck sauce) that get thrown into every bag of chinese take-out. You can buy it in the supermarkets here (it comes as a powder that you mix with water, much like wasabi).

But I'm sure wasabi would do the same job, since it has a very similar effect, nose-wise. Boy, am I an idiot! Missed a perfectly good excuse to go out for some sushi!

Actually, if you love sushi, the ginger you get with your sushi is a great cleanser too. That's what the purpose of it is actually. You're supposed to eat it in between the different kinds of sushi you ordered so the flavor of one fish doesn't carry over to the next.

mmmm... sushi...

Even though they call it "vaper's tongue" it's really "vaper's nose", since most of the flavor actually comes from the aroma.

For me chinese mustard, and deep nose breathing while in the shower both help, but don't totally eliminate the issue. I bet wasabi would work well too!

Interesting take on vapors tongue. Although that doesn't explain very well why someone (like me) could taste food, drinks..virtually anything/everything else. If I can't "smell" the vapor and therefore couldn't taste it, I shouldn't have been able to smell the aroma of food nor be able to taste it.

The thing with vapor, it is not something that is tangible. It's just a sensation of what food actually being chewed and eaten tastes like. It's just wet air.

You may have not noticed any loss of taste when it comes to 'real' food. Real food isn't just a fleeting bunch of vapor floating across your taste buds.
