Well, since no one else has chimed in yet I'll say first, that I'm not sure either. In my RDA's I wrap with coils compressed, and in the RBA's I wrap with the coils spaced out evenly. Since wire is cheap, try both ways and see which way works best for you. I'm assuming you have a multimeter to check ohm's with.
Good luck, and maybe someone will come along who can help you more than I could. :)

I've never tried spacing my wraps. On a 1/16" bit, 30g, I wrap and compress 9/8 and land at 1.8-1.9 almost every time. So based on USMC's comment, it sounds like I could use less wire, but still land at the same resistance? Hmmmmm

I suppose that would allow for more surface area of wire to be touching wick, so more vapor production on same resistance coil?

There are some days that vaping theory blows my mind :D

It doesn't matter if your coils are spaced or close together. The total length of wire used determines resistance.

wrong, it does matter, there is .2Ω differance between the two

EDIT: i thought you said there is no dif between spaced and closed!!! I must get my eyes checked sometime!! :D
