Pretty new here still, just getting into vaping recently.

That said, I'm making this post for my mom, who has both sarcoidosis and silicosis. Her pulmonologist, after a recent visit, pretty much told her it'd be necessary for her to quit smoking short of risking even further, more detrimental health risks.

Enter e-cigs. She turned me onto them, and I've done some very heavy research over the past week on the subject, reading posts on these boards, and others, as well as watching hours of video reviews, etc., trying to make the most informed decision possible about what e-cig to buy, and what liquids to get. Those decisions aside...

I'm writing this to see if there are any other vapers out there with these conditions. She's obviously still concerned about going from one habit that involves inhaling godawful amounts of terrible things, to another. She's also concerned about the potential risks (though as I told her, it can't possibly be as bad as smoking). Still, when mentioned to her doctor's nurse the other day, she had never heard of e-cigs or vaping, so finding information from her own doctor wasn't an option. Even after searching around a bit, there's no really solid information about these conditions paired with vaping, and even reading through the health & safety forums, it's just not clear if this is a viable alternative in the long run.

So that's pretty much that. Obviously quitting the entire habit altogether would be for the best, but after many, many failed attempts at quitting smoking entirely, through her nearly 40 years of smoking, this simply seems the best option. Any solid information, or experiences from those of you that may have these conditions would be greatly helpful.

I'm not sure about those conditions, but her doctor might be able to say something about inhaling PG (and possibly VG). The rest is nicotine, in very small amounts, and food flavouring, also not in exactly large amounts.
The doctor would at least know about PG, because it is the basis of quite a few medicines that are inhaled.

Thanks for the suggestion, Alex.

Definitely not a bad idea, and she does in fact have an appointment coming up this Wednesday with her pulmonologist as well. Should be a good time to get some questions in, so anything I can pass on to her to ask about will help.

I think one of her concerns is simply the idea of inhaling a vapor, and whether or not it'd.. I dunno.. condense in her lungs? I highly doubt that, given PG vapor's application elsewhere, but it seems like a somewhat legitimate concern (though not very likely).

If this is the only means of her quitting smoking then she should definitely do this. I smoked for 40 years also and have COPD. I was already on treatment four times a day. I had trouble breathing and coughed all the time. 11 months ago I switched to vaping. Since then my doctor is amazed. I no longer cough or wheeze. My lungs are now clear. I no longer have to take breathing treatments. This has defnitely been a life saver for me. I think she would benefit tremendously from ecigs.
