Hi everyone,

I have about 7 packages coming next week from different vendors, mostly because I have a lot of self-control. :) I've been trying to find good juices to try. I read the 2011 juice of the year thread, and I noticed several of the top picks are 100% VG juices. From what I've read on here, those kinds of juices are hard on cartos. So, what are the problems with using 100% VG in a carto? Can it be done, or would those types of juices be better left for dripping?

Thanks

I have some samples coming in soon from Virgin Vapors as well, which by the way I can't wait to show up. If I decide to reorder on a flavor, what reason would I have to not choose 100% VG if it's as thin as everyone says. I see lots of people talking about 80/20 or 50/50 mixes but I thought it was mostly to get the right consistency for ones PV.

+1 for the AVE juices. Boba's Bounty. 100% VG and vapes fine.

I use carto tanks and as far as they are concerned, I've had to make the hole in the carto slightly larger to accommodate some of the VG juices. Remember we're not talking about the viscosity of syrup here. The 100% VG juices are generally slightly thicker than a mix of PG/VG.

I think what you will find also with 100% vg juices is the carto's won't last as long as a general rule when compared to higher content pg juices. Additionally, darker juices will affect how long a carto last. On the 1st fill, I will take 15-20 minutes to drip 20-25 drops and then let the carto sit for an hour before vaping. It may be over doing it, but I never have burnt tasting carto's.YMMV. I should note this process is used with xl dc carto's.

cheers,

If we're talking about juices with nicotine, they are never 100% VG.
Explanation: they add water (wfi) at about 10-15% or more in order to mix nicotine well with VG and have a homogenized juice.
Even if you get VG base (I'm not talking about pure VG but the base where you add the flavour) for your DIY mixes, it contains an amount of water.
Anyway the cartos have no problem with VG, provided that you put a few drops in the carto, wait to soak, and give them 2-3 minutes after you finish filling them with the juice. If you are in a hurry you can wrap them with a kitchen paper and, holding it with your fingers from the side you fill it, shake it the way we used for the old thermometers (those with mercury). This way the juice will move to the lower side of the carto and you can continue filling it without delay.

Thank you for the replies everyone. I suppose I will just go ahead and get a few of the 100% VG juices to try out for myself. I'm guessing that's going to be the easiest way to figure out what works for me and what doesn't. When you say that the cartos won't last as long with the Vg in them, how much of a difference is there for you? Do the cartos have a severely shortened lifespan compared to their PG filled counterparts?

eh it depends on the juice. Some will clog alot faster and some arnt too bad. Juices with flavor sediments in them clog cartos faster than anything, even if its mostly PG. So try to avoid them and you should be able to get decent life out of a carto.
What I do is take a straightened out paperclip and everytime I refill, I very carefully basically bore out the airtube. That stops juice from building up in the carto which is what clogs a carto faster.

Do yourself a favor though and get a syringe to use. I fil all my cartos with a syringe anyway, but with 100%VG juices you really almost have to, unless you want it to take forever. The 100% VG juices just take sooo long to settle. A syringe will allow you to fill fairly quick still even though the juice is really thick

I'll preface this by saying YMMV. Using these dc carto's I get about a week with wyatt earp from freedomsmokeusa--it's a 50/50 juice that's dark in color. With my Dekang DK-tab--a light colored juice(80pg/20vg approximately), I have gotten 3 weeks out of one carto and it's still going strong. It's not just the pg/vg content...dark colored juices tend to gum up atties and carto's faster.

cheers,
