Hi everyone,

I've just written a beginners' guide (one webpage, actually) called "Vaping 101." (The link goes off the forum.)

When I was getting into this, I found tons of information online. TOO MUCH information. TOO MANY vendors. As much as I value that attitude generally, it wasn't helpful. I needed concrete advice, not options.

Once I started vaping (and quit smoking) I met many with the same problem. I still couldn't find a concise beginners' guide. So I wrote one---mostly with the Delete key.

If you're interested, please have a look and post some feedback; I'm sure I could make some details more accurate without making it longer. (Note: I don't care about listing other vendors: TOO MUCH info.) And if you like it as is, please send the URL to someone who needs it.

Many thanks!

p.s. There's a small voltage table at the end, since I didn't find one of those online either :)

I started vaping a month ago and while going through all this information and getting slightly overwhelmed I thought about doing the same thing you just did. I thought it would be a great idea to gather the most important things for someone who is just starting to look into vaping so they don't need to spend 2 weeks researching like I did.

One thing about your guide. There is a little bit of assumed knowledge here. Simple stuff like knowing what PV stands for or even what a dry hit is. Stuff like that I wouldn't have known unless I read about it somewhere else. Also, you do give the option of buying a more cigarette like battery but not all batteries are going to fit the Vivi Nova. Might be better off linking to something that will definitely fit with the cartomizer you recommended.

I also found voltage table in another thread here on the forums that is simpler to understand.

vsummer1---Those guides fall in the TOO MUCH INFO category, if you ask me. But perhaps I can link to one in case readers want more background info.

Will P.C.--- As for the Filling section in my guide---Yes, I'm talking about the Vivi Nova (either size). I don't mention anything else. That said, the same basic idea applies: fill down the inside of the tube, not the center.

Oroblram--- Thx for the feedback. I explain "PV," but I'll make it clearer. I thought "dry hit" was self-explanatory, but I'll re-read tonight and see how I can revise that for clarity too.

That is a very useful guide for people who just want to get on with vaping without going into information overload.

I would, however, suggest you take out the recommended settings for the different Vivi Nova heads. It is my understanding that the ohm readings on the heads are not always accurate.

To me it is easier to simply start at the lowest setting and turn the Twist up a little bit and press the button, vape, lather, rinse, repeat. When the vape gets a bit warm and loses taste back off a tiny smidge at a time to find the sweet spot. No ohms homework needed.

In the juice recommendations, you only list tobacco flavors. What about menthol smokers?

I smoked Marlboro menthols, and if I started out vaping a tobaco flavor I'd probably would not have liked it, as I don't care for tobacco e-juice flavors even now as an experienced vapor.

You need to recommend a plain straightforward menthol juice along with the tobacco flavors for the people who smoke menthol. I used Smokeless Image's Ice Menthol and I credit it to being successful in stopping smoking.

Finding a good first juice is probably as important as finding a good PV starting out.

I think you could recommend more than 1 pv. Also the KGO variable voltage has a better voltage range than the twist. It's not overload to have two or three options.
Some people specifically want smaller pvs also - for the form factor or discretion. I know one guy who after several months still will only use a cig size pv. It works for him. Which is why the ECF guides give a good overview so people can choose.
I think cartomizers should be an included option - I've seen some noobs really struggle with starting out on a vivi nova - some people are fine, but others have needed cartomizers first off.
The nic mg recommendations are ok - but I found 24 mg too high when I started and I was smoking 40-50 a day. 18 mg was the right starting point for me. So not everyone is the same and they may want to try both 24mg and 18 mg to see which suits them better.
I also would say 50/50 PG/VG won't suit everyone. That's too much VG for me, for example.
