The Air Force banned vaping in work places a while ago, but now it looks like its the Navys turn...

I received word that the Navy is now going to ban vaping in work places, this sucks for me.

Ive been vaping in my shop now for over a year, with no issues. Over the last year Ive noticed a HUGE increase in vapers on all levels.

Now, I will be forced to "Designated Smoking Areas" to simply vape my Reo.

Its a sad and very stupid rule by the Navy to IMO. Most people I talk to quit smoking and switched to vaping and they love it.

My guess is it wont really be enforced, much like the "smokeless tobacco" rule that says you cant dip anywhere but a smoke pit. I see people everywhere, even higher ups, dipping in the spaces!

I just think it's the military way. I make a stupid rule now everybody pays. Just like one person messes up and everyone gets punished. Main reason I got out.

This exactly. The main reason I got out as well.

Sorry about the new reg, Mike.
But, if leadership in your shop is cool, maybe they'll let you keep it low-profile as long as the higher-ups aren't around.

Never been in the military, appreciate your service. Do they allow cigarette smoking? It's obviously a short sighted ruling just from a public health perspective.

Yes, cigarette smoking is allowed, but only in designated smoking areas on base/post.
But, in an effort to reduce smoking, a lot of bases are now significantly decreasing the amount of smoke pits on base.

Also, keep in mind, vaping isn't getting outright banned for military, but like smokeless tobacco, it is now being restricted to smoke pits only.

Not only in military.
The Casino where my restaurant is located will only allow vaping in designated smoking areas.
Went to a concert in the casino arena and was stopped by security saying I was not allowed to "smoke". i told them it was an electronic cigarette and was told it didn't matter had to "vape" in the "smoking" area!!!

I was an Air Force pilot in the 1970's and I smoked analogs in flight from the time the wheels were up until I put them down for landing. Our flights were usually 8-12 hours long so we picked up box lunches from the flight kitchen. At that time every lunch had a small pack with 4 analogs in it. They stopped that in 1974-75. Analogs were $1.00 a carton at the commissary.

Then again, Jack Daniels was $2.00 per 1/5 and Gin was $1.00 per 1/5.

The military used to be a lot more fun.

Nic addiction is no joke, and I believe that once the appropriate controlled studies are done that we will see that vaping is by far the most effective NRT and best available method for tobacco cessation. I don't imagine that a soldier who is fighting nic cravings is as effective as he/she could be otherwise, and no amount of rules and regulations can abolish an addiction. Your job is hard enough as it is and I am sorry you have to deal with this.

Not me any longer. I got out recently :D

But, yes. Blanket regulations with no reason are common and annoying.

maybe you guys should request a separate "vapeing pit" and explain you guys switched to vaping to get away from smoking and its heath risks and explain your now non smokers,so standing around a bunch of second hand smoke defeats the purpose of vaping. it would be like sending a bunch of alcoholics into a bar just to drink a glass of milk.

I love that analogy! lol.
But, the problem is, these regulations don't come from each base, they are branch-wide. And as per regulation, base commanders can only change regulations to make them more stringent. Requesting vape pits would most likely have to go up to Sec of "Branch" level.

And then get immediately shot down for two reasons:
1. Lack of knowledge on the subject.
2. The big one: Funding.

I got out in 2011 and I'm glad I did! The military is drawing down and slowly getting back into garrison mode. With that the higher ups no longer have to deal with what's going on in AFG so they get board. What happens when Higher Ups get board?? They spend their days writing up lame and stupid policies just to make your life hell.

I may get back in once the dust settles and suck up the last 6 years and get my 20.......or maybe not.

I know just before getting out that they were talking about banning ALL tobacco. I really wouldn't be surprised after they made all the shag mags disappear!
