So ...yeah, I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes back at the beginning of June - a relatively minor case (if you can call diabetes "minor") - and have been successfully managing it with diet and exercise. This is what brought me (back) to quitting cigarettes and vaping.

All in all, I've been doing fairly well, but I've noticed that my trending levels have gone up a fairly significant amount (about 10 pts) since I started vaping. Now, I'm not blaming vaping ...there are other variables at play here, I haven't been able to exercise much in the last week or so due to 100+ temps, so that could be contributing as well ...but I'm wondering if there are any other diabetics here who have noticed a slight increase due to the flavors in the juices? I think, from what I've read, most people use Stevia / Sacralose for juice sweetener, which is fine for me, but I can only imagine that some flavors might be 'naturally' sweetened and, possibly, off-limits?

For the moment, I'm willing to wait it out, get my exercise back, and see if my numbers drop. This last week, my fasting glucose has been 95-105 - prior to this last week, I was managing in the 85-95 ranges, so it's not a huge jump ...just *slightly* concerning.

I suppose the question I have is, does anyone have any resources for diabetic concerns and vaping?

I usually use sucralose for sweeting my juices. There is another thread about EM, juices and diabetes. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/421179-em-e-juice-general-relates-diabetics.html

Nermal and Mommafish, I'm hoping you two are responding to HyperRealist, right?

Right, and we should have been specific about that.

I am a member of another forum that has the option of "Reply" (to post) and "Reply to Thread" Reply to post automatically shows who is being replied to, and links back to the post being cited. It is very helpful, and also avoids a tendency to over quote. I'll have to get in the habit of using @HyperRealist, or some such. It does not come naturally.

Holy crap. Just woke up. All I had was a cup of black coffee and vape. My sugar is 309.

I'd call the doc and let him know at least. And eat some LEAN protein. Chicken, fish... I really don't think this is a vape thing, but it all needs addressed. That's pretty high.

After helping an elderly family member manage their diabetes might I also suggest you make sure your meter is calibrated. Hers got really strange erratic high readings which sent her to a doctor. When he tested things out her levels were good it was the meter giving false high readings.

See your doc and get this sorted.

Edit:THis was aimed at Hyperrealist

Bummer Hyper, but I can relate. My wake ups are usually quite high....no matter what I do the night before. Pre-dawn phenomenon....

309 is high.....but I don't get all "call the doc" till I push 500.....and I do on occasion. My dad was a "brittle" diabetic and I'm sure a case study featuring him is in some endo classes. Lucky me....he passed it on. 120 @ 9:00, 340 @ 10:00....no food or carbs at all....
150 @ 7:00, 50 @ 7:30......sucks but it is what it is.

Take a deep breath, have another cup and do what the situation warrants.
Check, check, check your sugars. Don't care what strips cost, and they are expensive,......just keep checking.

I had a problem with Vanilla/Caramel juice - my numbers went up about 50 points. Now I smoke the Marlboro Medium juice and have had no problems with that mixture.
Best of luck and take good care of your Diabetes... very mean illness.

I was diagnosed as a diabetic over 20 years ago. My favorite vapes presently are root beer and cherry. My a1c has remained just as crappy as it was before I started vaping. I very doubt that inhaling sweet vapors is going to make much, if any difference. As always, I'm no doctor and this is just MY opinion.

Everybody reacts differently to different things when a Diabetic... I noticed that my readings increased a lot when changing to a sweet vape juice. It may not happen to you or anyone else but I tested very thoroughly and that is the only thing that I could put my finger on unless, of course, I was getting a bug or something... getting sick always raises the sugar levels. Will confirm it today as I have an appointment to my doc and will ask him. I´ve had this damn illness for about 17 years and know what I should do and not do to keep my sugar levels at a reasonable level.
You say that your A1c is crappy... better get it down if it is 8 or higher, too dangerous. I try to keep it below 7 but I have failed a couple of times but if I behave and do exercise and eat reasonably, it goes down to acceptable levels.
Good luck...

For years the doc yelled he wanted my a1c below 7. Started vaping and it started to fall, eventually hitting 5.6. Boy was I proud. Now the good drs. tell me the latest research says anybody over 65 should have an a1c in the 7-8 range, and he said I needed to get mine up fast. He has reduced my meds drastically, and now my morning blood sugar is 120-130. They were running 75- 100. Vaping has no negative affects for me, only the damn Drs. Wonder if they have any idea what they are doing.

Well, on the up side, at least you can now resume enjoying a pastry with your morning coffee! :p

I am 69 and the doctor wants my A1c below 7... All the tables that I have seen indicate that a Diabetes within acceptable range is below 7... they do not make any mention of age factors. Had a checkup yesterday and my A1c was 7.3, down from 7.9... Next time hopefully I will be below 7, at least that is my goal. My grandfather died of Diabetes and became blind before that so I do have a lot of respect for this stupid illness. It sure can mess up your life if you don´t watch it.
