So, I was drinking with some friends tonight and they smoke 'analogs'. Now, I haven't smoked tobacco in almost three months but tonight after drinking for a bit my vape started feeling less satisfactory and I somewhat started craving an analog. I guess i wanted something more harsh? I thought about smoking one, but I decided to crank my battery up a bit and that fixed it immediately. Was wondering if anyone else vapes at higher wattage/voltage when they're drinking?

First of all congratulations - for me that was the true test - seeing if I could go out with my friends and have a few beers and not smoke. Looks like cigarettes 0 SteamEngenious 1.

When drinking, I have a slightly higher blend of PG to increase the throat hit, and it's a few mg stronger than I normally vape.

As well as turning up the voltage, I also like menthols when I drink too - they really up the throat hit and give me that satisfaction so I don't crave cigarettes. I also have some pretty good NET tobacco e-liquids that are pretty good at scratching that itch.

I crave tobacco cigarettes every single time that I take a swig of coffee to one degree or another. I don't drink alcohol anymore as my doctor said to keep off the alcohol as it doesn't mix well with the pain meds and other medications I have to take, he said it's okay to go out to dinner and have a drink with dinner, but avoid slurping down a 750ml of bourbon before bed. But that tobacco cig urge is super strong every time that I take that swig of coffee. Generally what I've been doing is to pop in the 24mg nic tank that we keep around just for such craving situations. Take a half a dozen large hits on that tank and the craving for tobacco cigs is gone.

I used to drink a fair amount of alcohol before my body got all riddled with pain and I'm 100% positive that if I were to go out to dinner and have a whiskey sour or a bourbon and coke, I'd quite likely stop off at a convenience store and pick up a pack of cigarettes. So, I will just continue to avoid alcohol for now until tobacco cigarettes are little more than a slight memory in the back of my head. It's still way too early for me to tempt myself with alcohol as it used to go hand in hand, have a sip of my whisky sour, spark up a cigarette.

Yep. My ProVari in fact doesn't satisfy me if I'm out drinking. It and a Kayfun usually keep me pretty happy when I'm out and about. I usually run 2.4 ohm coils at 6 volts, so I don't really have the option of "turning it up". If I'm drinking I try to remember to grab a mech and an RDA. When the ProVari's 15 watts stops being enough I switch to 40 or so watts, and no more problems. :) Except for draining a mess of batteries.

Congratulations :toast:, that was a big thing for me too. So for that reason I actually barely ever drink now, which is good I can save what's left of my kidneys with my lungs. I'm on a constant nic buzz anyways, so I guess it balances out

Congrats SteamEngenious, that was a great victory :thumb:.

I've been vaping since April 2012 and I can honestly say I never get the urge to have a smoke any more no matter what happens in my life. I do still like to have a more aggressive vape when I'm having a few beers. I make my own juices so I can add flavor any time I feel like it. I find a bit of added menthol and a couple of drops of tobacco flavoring in my favorite juice does it for me.

Everytime I am drinking I have to have a different flavor with me, If ive been on fireball for a good while I just bring the harshest coldest menthos I have to drip and drink. Or if I have been on menthol I go to a really harsh tobacco, usually in 24mg to help curb the desire for an analog. Now these last couple months it has not affected me as badly besides not feeling the throat hit, but ive been dealing with it better.

I found myself suffering from this exact thing on the 4th of July. I don't normally drink because of my medication but I indulged that day. I found myself needing to up my voltage or using my mech to get the hit I was looking for. It's a good thing I'd read about this problem before drinking all that cuz' I knew what to do if it started, and it did. Thank goodness for ECF and all it's invaluable info.

Full of great info (how has menthol + tobacco never occurred to me? Sheesh). I haven't had a "drinking with smokers" night since switching to vaping, but it shall be quite the treat.

It does strike me as kind of funny that folks who normally don't use mechs might break 'em out for a night of drinking. Seems like a stellar idea, right? :p

Give up drinking. Problem solved. ;) Congrats on not falling back. Complete abstinence is the only sure fire method of never falling victim to cigarettes again. That first puff could be the last nail in your coffin. Think of the quality of vape gear you could splurge on by not drinking. Lol.....

Don't be a victim.
Patient says, "if I give up smoking, drinking, junk food, and sex with strangers will I live longer?" Doctor stares at him for a few minutes, then replies, "well, lifespan is more dependant on your genes than anything, but it will definitely feel longer."

Lol, so it's not only me. Thanks everyone for the info and support. When I used to drink I'd go through one to two packs in a night, so I'm definitely living a healthier life now, just now kinda realizing that..

I'm sure a lot of smokers have had that cigarette hangover. Ugh, it's like a booze hangover but so much worse.

Fingers are all yellow, your clothes stink, burns in your shirts, you feel sick, your throat hurts... my goodness, I am so glad that I left that behind.

I have been there. After 2 years with no smoking, I went out with friends to a smoke filled Texas pool hall that served liquor. I had a cigarette. I bummed it from a buddy. Used his lighter to light it. Took one puff and remembered how nasty it was! That was my last cigarette, 9 months or so ago now.
I usually vape 3 or 6 these days. I've got a few bottles of 12.. Tigers blood and a dead ringer for the way camels used to taste to me from a local shop. I usually vape those and menthol when I go out drinking... But a good fireball flavor works too!
That said, I've converted most of my smoking friends to vaping, so there is less of an urge.. Kinda like a support system I guess... Lol
