No doubt and it isn't only alcohol. I remember when I used to smoke, drags in the morning where much smaller. Then with coffee things progressed a bit. After lunch the drags started really getting longer. After a huge dinner it was 5 cigarettes one right after the other and each cigarette seemed to be 1 big, long, deep huge, drag. I have since quit alcohol and stay away from smokey surroundings. They offer me nothing at this point. Matter of choice/opinion you understand.
In the past, I have posted quite a bit about the psychological aspect of vaping as it relates to me. I quickly realized I needed my vaping setup to perform better than cigarettes. 5V, DD, 24mg, spare attys/batts/pv/backup green apple juice at all times. Take a drag and BAM! There is not a single smoker that has taken a drag from my PV and not coughed like crazy. If I want, I can take shorter drags, change to smoother juice or just blow out a bit before I inhale.
Higher volts not only increase sensation but also should allow you to be able to take multiple consecutive loooooong drags as well. You know... inhale, blow it out of your nose while taking the next drag...... BAM! BAM! BAM!
The main thing is to always know that you have the BAM! Stupid as this sounds, it is very comforting in situations as described by the OP ( for me at least)
EDIT: For me, higher voltage simply provided more ooomph than LR. More power, more capable.... just seemed to create more BAM! my 2 cents.
