I'm always paranoid I'll get hassled and embarrass my husband and friends (none of whom smoke or vape). I'm just not that gutsy unless I see another vaper (and even in the madness at the Marriott I never saw a single one!). Last year, I did encounter one other vaper at the Hilton bar and then I vaped openly while talking to them. I just feel better about doing it when I'm not the only one. Oh but I did vape in the elevators any time my husband and I were the only ones on it. One time I blew out some vapor right before the elevator doors opened and someone got on. They looked momentarily confused
The only time I got asked any questions about my ecig was among a group of smokers outside. They all seemed to already know about ecigs, but they asked how well it worked and if I liked it. One smoker told me they had an ecig, but they used it only when waiting in panel lines indoors. Other than that, they still smoked.
Next year, maybe I'll be braver
