I used to smoke analogs while pumping gas( I know that actually IS dsangerous) but since gas now days has such a higher flash point than it used to back in the day, it's really not quite as dangerous as every one thinks. I proved this to my cousin by dropping an analog in a bucket of gas and laughing at his facial expression as it didnt catch fire

its not the gas you have to worry about its the vapor. That is why aviation mechanics are prohibited from using standard flashlights and I would not vape near a gas pump. Yes you can extinguish a cigarette in gasoline, but if fumes build up and are not vented you'll start a flash fire with your little demonstration...

still, best not to do it. cant be that hard to just put the pv down for a few minutes while gassing up. i know it's fun to get some shock value out of using our pvs in interesting places/situations, but perception management is always important.

people who make important decisions about our "hobby" gas their cars up, go to stores, etc. the fate of vaping is still undecided, and we need all the support we can get. like it or not, we are the vanguards, the ambassadors of vaping and cannot afford to be ill thought of.

as a former firefighter, i know about flashpoints and fuel-air mixtures. but it only takes one instant of perfect conditions to cause disaster. misfortune shows up at enough points in life, best not to invite her.

getting off soapbox now.

Funny you should mention that. I was handed an "intrinsically safe" droplight for use while I was working in a fuel cell. It had an electrical fault and proceeded to shock the living [insert expletive here] out of me.

You do realize that while pumping gas, there are a lot of fumes being generated. This is the cause of most gas station fires. People get into car during pumping, get out when done, and don't discharge static electricity. All it takes is a little spark. Seriously, I wouldn't vape while pumping gas. Seriously dude, why give PV users a bad image like that?

Bingo! My Streamlight flashlights, and droplights are all fuel cell approved for a reason. Not much you can do beyond that. The old wives tale (whether it was ever true or not) about the guy wearing a pager igniting a flash fire in a fuel cell was enough to convince me to remove all electrical devices from my persons before ever entering a fuel cell.

TWA flight 800 (if you don't believe the bulls*** missle theories) was enough of an example of just how explosive fuel cell vapors can be. Even Jet-A/Kerosene/JP-4 vapors.

Drives me nuts to see someone do that. I ALWAYS touch the metal of my vehicle before grabbing a gas pump.

As for vaping at the fuel pumps... Don't. Publicity is bad enough for us, and we don't need to give another reason for them to put the clamps on tighter.

It's been said that it's more common in younger drivers. Older folks need to grab the car body door area for support as they get out of the car, and that discharges the build up. I'm usually too busy cleaning my windows or whatnot while the pump is running, so I don't get back into the car. Plus only a 13gal tank fills quickly. :)

I know its the vapor not the gas itself, I know more about what I'm doing with fuel than I may sound like, thats why I knew I could do the demonstration. Like I said, I admit that when I was 16 and I smoked analogs pumping gas, it was stupid, my point only was, that using a pv or a cell phone while pumping gas into your car isn't as big a deal as some make it to be, we are just raised in a scared paranoid society, the 4 volts your cell phone makes isn't enough to even make any type of spark, the natural resistance of air is too high, unless maybe you pulsed it through a bad ... step up coil like the way camera flashes work, but then you are just being stupid :)

I do understand your point about making the habit look bad, never thought of it like that.

But all that aside, I guess I will keep my little amusements to myself from now on so as not to be attacked

I seriously don't think anyone is trying to attack you, merely pointing out some things you may not have considered.

Wouldn't life be boring if no one ever disagreed? It would be a pretty brief conversation if no one had anything to add.
