It was a time when the U.S. was at peace for a period of time and the Middle East didn't jack up the prices to spite us. That ended around 1973 with the Arab Embargo and gas prices soared.

Old is a mind game! I still get in 100 reps a day with free weights and 5 miles a day on the stationary bike.

In sweden you would get about 3 litres of gasoline for 7$ ^^
Realy expensive here about 2.2$ for 1 litre...

We pay about $3.50 U.S. for a gallon. Since those times the buying power of a dollar has fallen to about 10 cents. Really, from the 1960s to today, you have to divide by 10 to get an equivalent price.

Still, gas was higher octane and had lower flash points. The guy with the cigarette and the guy with the vacuum cleaner didn't cause vapor fires then, either.

First i thought the title of your post was referring to something else,forgive me......But back on subject,if the battery did ''explode'' and vent flames at the time of the pumping and fumes ignited,you would be in big trouble,odds of this happening are low,but you know life can be stranger that fiction.

Why would anyone "need" to vape while refueling!? Can't it wait 5 minutes or so?!.....As a Psychologist I had to ask!

you need to determine if the missiles are stealth missiles and if so you need to stealth vape...

not really 1955 - 1972 and it would take 10 seconds to get a gallon of gas to pump too... ( 1/8 gal per second or 10cents per second) you could fill up a 13 gallon tank for less than 11$

Yep, my phone gets infrequent use as a phone, but it keeps me occupied with the latest news while waiting for my food to come in a restaurant. I hate to drive and talk and wonder why everyone one else has one eye blocked while driving with a hand holding a phone. I used Bluetooth when I had to be electronically available while working and driving from account to account. I needed one hand free to hold my cigarette!

Why scare other folks who may think it is smoke from a cigarette? If you can't wait the three or four minutes then you have issues. Anyway, when pumping gas, you ought to pay full attention to that task and leave your vapes in the car.

That would concern me more than anything, especially at a gas station that's always busy. Other customers being concerned & possibly getting scared. That would just be more fuel to the anti-vaping community (or those who doesn't know what vaping is), showing disrespect for others & causing paranoia. I still get strange looks just when vaping in a parking lot or sidewalk, some from those who happen to be smoking.

Can one imagine the stares at a gas pump?

I'll admit, I've vaped while pumping gas, like when cleaning the windshield, however I was the only customer there. When others are around, I can wait until I get back in the car, or at least away from the pumps. What I do, is get a few good draws before I get out of the car. That carries me over for the 10 minutes or less that I'm going to be there.

In Oregon you can't pump your own gas. So yeah I sat in my car once and vaped away knowing I was safe. I looked over and saw a women in her car with a horrified look on her face. I guess until more people know about e cigs I'll wait the few minutes and vape when I drive off.

Nowadays, my wife and I shop at Kmart to get the 30 cents per gallon BP discount on gas and we buy groceries at Kroger for gas points at Kroger stores with gas pumps. Yesterday, we cashed in some points and got 70 cents per gallon off on a fill up at Kroger. We should have taken my Ram pickup. It has a 32 gallon tank. Hers just held 14 gallons out of a possible 21. We lost potential savings on that purchase.

Gas is still about as cheap as it was in 60s, maybe cheaper depending on how you compare it. With a 10/1 ratio of price and wage comparisons it should be $3.50 a gallon.

Anyone noticed the big red button they usually have around gas pumps? It shuts off the entire operation in case of a fire or other emergency. One day we may just see a news story surrounding that red button. That wouldn't be in our best interest.

In other news, a local gas station was shut down temporarily today because someone was reported to be smoking while filling their gas tank. Authorities arrived on the scene to discover that it wasn't a tobacco cigarette that involves combustible tobacco, it was a customer using one of the new electronic cigarettes. These devices produce a water vapor that looks like smoke. A customer noticed what appeared to be smoke while filling their gas tank and ran over to the emergency button and pushed it. 18 customers were highly agitated until the fire department inspected the premises, found no signs of combustion, and authorized operations to continue. The station now has a sign that includes no smoking warnings with an additional line prohibiting electronic cigarettes.

Well said. If I have to vape so badly that I'll do it while standing at a gasoline pump I had best reevaluate my need for nicotine or my need to keep my hands busy. Onlookers who have no idea what is stuffed in my mouth might well be concerned as well; no need to put forth another negative image. What if one of our wonderful 'politicians' or so-called "media representatives" saw me? You KNOW how that could go! He or she would break a limb rushing back to begin yet another negative-spin story on the horrors of buying gasoline!

Life is a series of decisions which, for me personally, are made by evaluating risk vs reward. Max reward for vaping at a gas pump is I don't have to wait a few minutes to vape, max risk, although the chance of it happening may be somewhere close to nothing, is a catastrophic explosion. Best case scenario is no explosion but people who don't understand see you and think vapers (sic) are idiots.

Put the best case scenario on the scale with the max reward and see which carries the most weight.
