Ok so I'm over a week into my analog free life (pause for applause) but have yet to take my Riva to the pub or any public place outside of my car really. I dont really have an issue at work and can vape quite nicely there with a positive response.

Just curious as to others experiences taking their PV's to pubs/clubs/bars/supermarkets or just out and about really.

So feel free to fill me in on whats happened to you when you first lit up so to speak at your local etc so I have an idea what to expect. . . . . . or just for a laugh :)

Cheers

Kris

We have a "favorite" Irish pub we've gone to for a couple years. Got our favorite spot at the corner of the bar on a busy Saturday night and started vaping. I avoided management, though. Kept the LED covered when I knew he was around. The bartenders all kept coming over to try our e-cigs. Next time we went in, we sat at another part of the bar and vaped freely all night. Even gave a Jager Girl the info for my supplier. lol

I've never got a negative response anywhere, and I vape everywhere! People arestill allowed to smoke in bars (pubs) in Oklahoma, so it's not that big of a deal, but I vape in restaurants all the time. My wife gets a little embarassed about it, but I "wear it like a badge" as I like to say. I get questions about it, but never in a bad way. I always carry lots of cards for different suppliers, and educate anyone that asks about it. They usually get more than they bargained for I'm sure.

After a brief discussion about it actually being water vapor, everyone accepts it. I will even blow it right in their face (after getting permission) just to show them it doesn't resemble smoke in anyway, and that it isn't hurting anyone.

Now, as far as asking someone to shut your pie hole, I have never done that. If a manager of a restaurant ever respectfully asked me to stop, I would. If just random person got rude with me about it, I wouldn't stop just because they were too uneducated to know better. I would try explaining it to them first, but if they weren't having my explaination I would tell them to suck it.

I try my best to be an e-cig ambassador everywhere I go, so I would try my best not to get hostile with someone. The only problem with telling someone off, even if they are in the wrong, is if they complain to management, they manager is in a tough position. I am a great tipper and a pleasant customer in all the places I frequent, so I like to think they would side with me, but I'd rather not make them have to decide.

I like that "an e-cig ambassodor" I can see myself doing the same thing too. Since smoking in public places has been banned in the UK I guess it has become taboo to even try and do something that looks so similar like vaping - I'm sure the general response would be positive but I guess having to explain what you are doing over and over may become a pain quite quickly. Its interesting to see the different perspectives. I like to think I would stand my ground if hassled but after years of being a repressed smoker (go outside please) and society conditioning me to think of smoking as a terrible thing (which in fairness it is I suppose) and smokers themselves as outcasts that just to be associated with smoking and frowned upon would probably be enough for me to apologise quietly and take myself outside to stand in the rain with the analog folk :)

Anyways I'm off work for the weekend so I think its time to find out - maybe just walk into the nearest bar take a big puff on the Riva blow it in the barmans face and say "What?". . . . . . . or not :)

If you're going into a nightclub, a top tip is to vape as you walk in past the bouncers. If they say nothing (and see you) you can safely assume they are cool with it and won't be hauled out later. If they do ask, just show them and say "it's electronic, they're legal" and unless they have a specific policy banning vaping you should be fine.

I went to the Piccadilly Institite last week and was fine vaping inside. I did get followed by one bouncer who could only see the "smoke" coming from my mouth who signalled a bouncer in front of me to stop me for smoking, he did and I showed him the ecig and he just said "oh OK" and let me carry on.

Late in the night we had a small female bouncer standing by our table and she said "you can't use that in here" to me, I said "why not?" to which she paused and said "oh don't worry about it", so I said fine and carried on vaping :D

Hey English_Kris,

I have been vaping for a while now and at first I was a bit nervous to vape inside a bar or nightclub but now do it all the time! One of the great things about it is people will often stop and ask you what you are doing so it can be a bit of an icebreaker and I have had some fun in the past meeting people which I wouldn't otherwise of met because of my e cig ;).

Here in Spain we recently got a smoking ban. At first when I went out to a nightclub I would get funny looks and the barman would typically tell me I cant smoke inside (No Fumar!!) However once I pointed out it was actually an electronic cigarette they where fine. The funny thing is since the ban has come in I have noticed a lot of people with electronic cigarettes “beating the ban”!!

I can vape in most bars I go to the problem I have is when I am drinking I tend to want an analog HELP

Don't go to bars..... Besides... you spend what $2.50 - 5.00 per oz of HOUSE liquor in a bar... you have 5 drinks... your in 25 bucks... and haven't even had a 6 pack of beer (4-12 bucks) worth of booze.

Hint: Get some friends to party at your place and charge THEM 2.00 per shot of booze "to cover the cost of the bottle".
I've paid the rent on doing this..... you can too.....

The "I'm not breaking any laws so leave me alone buttface!" response isn't going to work, though. Most places (def the UK, I used to tend bar there.) have laws that allow owners/managers A) to refuse service or admission to most anyone, at their own discretion within broad limits; and B) to set premise rules which, as long as the rules violate no laws, must be followed.

The law in the UK, at the moment, does not require pubs to ban vaping. (As it does with cigarettes.)

It does, however ALLOW them to ban vaping if they wish. (Just as they can ban muddy shoes, gang colors, or in extreme cases informal dress.)

So play nice- if you can get them on your side, you're golden.

Best,
Ande

PS- I've got it easy. Got two locals- one is a huge place, and sort of a dive. Smoking is permitted. Frankly, a number of criminal behaviours are permitted. The other is smaller, more friendly, and the owner/manager/lead bartender (same guy) vapes behind the bar. Vaping is permitted always- actively encouraged if you have a drink with him. It's a good place.

I think when you go in with some cigar like electronic unit and start blowing vapor around, you are likely to get some negative response and some "What the hell is that?" questions. To me, those large units are somewhat troubling looking to the general public. Plus they do throw a LOT of vapor, which gets disturbing to those around you, and many juices do have odors.

I use a cig sized unit, and the only questions I ever get is where to get them. I don't flaunt it (which the cigar sized units definitely do), and I don't blow vapor all over....mainly just down.

But, to each their own I guess, and you have to go through the Q + A. Not me, so much. I'm not stealth, but I'm not showy .

My ego-t doesn't throw off muc vapor compared to other units and this is an example of that being a good thing. I vape wherever I want and if I was blowing off big clouds I'm sure that it would lead to more problems. My attitude though is that this isn't related to smoking at all so telling me I can't do it makes about as much sense as saying I can't use a breath mint. However we do need to get away from calling them cigarettes, they are nicotine inhalers really and that's what I tell people :)
