I usually head outside (it was nothing to go without an analog for an hour, why not lay off the vape for a bit?) unless it's a vape-friendly bar - had a nice chat at a local bar when the bouncer was puffing away on a Bolt.

I've also gotten the 'you know you can smoke those things inside, right?' from smokers walking past, along with the inevitable confused stink-eye from people inside. I usually try to keep fairly discrete, since the S.O. (non-vape, non-smoke) seems to get a little tired of every trip to a bar turning into a 'vape-clinic' when a curious smoker asks about my setup.

Personally, I'd say ask a bartender. It's nice to have the old 'well, I talked to that guy, and he said no problem' when someone gets uppity, and since every bar is going to be different, it's nice to find out.

I treat vaping exactly like I did smoking. It helps maintain the ritual for me. If I had to go outside to smoke, I now go outside to vape, even if it is freezing, even at home.

It helps maintain the ritual? So in your opinion does going outside keep you off the analogs? I don't see any other reason you do what you do, I vape inside almost exclusively. It's one of the biggest benefits of vaping over smoking IMO.

Hey there from Minneapolis also :)
Like most have said I ask usually. Minneapolis has a pretty decent community of vapers and I have been seeing a lot of vapers already inside vaping away when I walk in. Usually my finding is that you are good in bars but in restaurants people freak out! I'm in eden prairie and haven't had any issues yet and as its cold now I don't want to or think I want to go outside with the smokers. Glad you have quit full time
Good luck

Yeah, it does. Part of the reason quitting smoking was hard is I no longer got away from the desk or joined my smoking friends outside. I think, for me, it helps maintain the same "feel" as smoking. Maybe that will change down the road but for now I think it helps.
