Is this thing on? Oh, good. I'm new around here and I don't usually do a lot of internet correspondence, so this kind of feels like my first confession or that time when you crashed the Toastmaster's Club expecting free toast. Either way, here goes nothing.

I was (am?) a heavy smoker. If R.J. Reynolds owned Mt. Rushmore, they would probably give me an earnest shot at Theodore Roosevelt's spot. If I had saved all of the money that I have given them over the years, I would probably have enough to buy the monument myself. No regrets though, you can't continue to beat yourself up for the mistakes of your youth. I know it's overused and I'm probably beating dead horses, but honestly, forward is the only way to look.

I could give you the entire history in epic detail, but I'm sure if you wanted to read War and Peace, you would have done so by now. Either way, I started out like much of you—stealing cigarettes from relatives as a kid and having something of an addiction shortly before reaching adulthood. In addition, I took up up pipe smoking (and occasional cigar smoking) at the ripe old age of 19, but unlike most proper pipe smokers (and Slick Willy), I did inhale and by God, I loved it. By the time I reached 21, I was chain-smoking Dunhill Nightcap and Gawith 1792 on a daily basis. Later, I gave up both the pipes and cigars—primarily because pipes are not very easy to carry around all the time—and switched to cigarettes entirely.

I had no intention of quitting until a couple of years when I realized that I could no longer run without nearly going into cardiac arrest. The attempt, for what it's worth, lasted all of about a month, and before I knew it, I was back to my normal 30-35 per day habit. Soon after, I tried again and again, but nothing would do the job. I tried most things (gum, snus, strips, etc.) and stopped just short of cutting my right thumb off. I embraced the fact that I might die a smoker.

Now, let us fast forward to May of this year. A good friend of mine was on a mission to stop smoking and he showed me a Fin that he had purchased. I was familiar with the Blu commercials and the e-cig mall kiosks, but my only experience trying an e-cig was several years in Las Vegas. I'm sure they were very new at the time, but it reminded me too much of my ex's Marlboro Ultra Lights. In other words: no taste, no kick, no dice. Anyway, he had several of them and gave me one to take home. It wasn't terrible, but certainly no substitute for a real cigarette. That same week, I bought a Blu disposable for myself. I found it pretty bland and it died a mere 45 minutes into my lunch break. I thought it may have been a fluke, so I went back to the corner store and bought the menthol version, hoping for something with a little more punch. Well, it had about the same lifespan and tasted quite a bit worse. However, something told me to continue--probably the fact that I have had bronchitis twice this year for a damned good reason. It was time to take the rational step and do some research online.

June, 2013: I ended up in all the wrong places and found myself a couple of hundred in the hole with no clear goal. I read these rave reviews online about certain starter kits, but they were all of the basic “cig-a-like” variety. I landed on one—might not want to say which—plopped down over a hundred and was sent a kit with three batteries (two manual, one automatic) and an assortment of pre-filled cartridges. Sure, they were a hell of a lot better than the disposables, but as Mick Jagger once said, “I can't get no...satisfaction.” However, being a complete novice I tried pre-filled cartridge after pre-filled cartridge, hoping to find my holy grail. Yeah, right. You have to also keep in mind that I had not fully kicked the smoking habit—there were days when I would vape directly after having finished a real smoke. Terrible, I know, but that's an addiction, my friends. I think my time's almost up here, so I'll get on with it. Anyway, the cig-a-likes were not doing it for me, and all three batteries went bad within a five month span. I experimented with some clear tanks a few months ago, but they were not the ones you guys rave on and on about on here. To say the least, the experiment nearly put me off tanks entirely. I ended up with a clogged, defective mess. Ignorantly, I went back to the pre-filled cartridges and my usual habit, thinking I would figure it out eventually.

My life changed when I acquired a Halo Triton (and no, I don't work for them). This was last week, mind you and I have not wanted a real cigarette since. The tank system, battery life, and whole all around vaping experience has convinced me that hey, perhaps I can make the switch once and for all. I have not had a full cigarette in one whole week. I admit, I cheated yesterday and lighted one, thinking I should say my proper goodbye, but I took four draws and nearly gagged. Terrific, I thought. After all, smoking is like that reckless, care-free, hard-living bad girl you once dated—sure, she may eventually kill you (and you probably don't want her around forever), but she sure is a hell of a lot of fun when the stress levels are high. Thankfully (and hopefully) I have now said my goodbyes and am not looking back.

I apologize—that was not exactly War and Peace, but maybe a bit long-winded. I'm usually not quite this vocal. Although, I'm really glad I found this place—I hadn't a clue that you guys even existed or that there was such an avid vaper following. I have been reading quite a bit over the last few days, but since I am still a novice, much of the technical talk is still a bit over my head. I did order a VV Triton battery, but it has yet to arrive. Ok, scratch that—not only did I order that, but also a whole slew of e-juice and several more batteries, tanks, and coils. This puppy, which you all seem to love, will be my next purchase.

My questions: Which clearomizers do you recommend for this model (Innokin iTaste V2.0)? I would need something easy to re-fill (similar to Triton). And is it just me or are most cig-a-like batteries cut from the same cloth? There's still part of me that wants to hang onto a few because they seem to work well if you need a quick vape.

I'm looking forward to learning more around here. At this time, I tend to vape more tobacco-flavored e-juices, but I'm always looking to branch out. Halo's Belgian Chocolate is a nice, rich vape that I have been enjoying recently. Cheers to all!

Good lord, ;-) maybe you should be a product rep. You have excellent story telling skill, I didn't pass out from boredom reading all you wrote at least.

I believe I'm 9 packs away from my first go at vaporizing, we shall see how it goes then.

At this point I'm looking at a iTaste VV 10S kit (I think). I certainly don't want to toss money at something I'm not going to feel is an adequate replacement.

It's a good read, but I'll repeat this for those that didn't get that far...

Yes, all cig-a-like batteries are cut from the same cloth.
The general rule of thumb is bigger last longer.

But there are also things called PCCs which can charge your batteries on the fly.
If you feel any kind of need to stick with cig-a-likes you might want to Google up on those.

But if you're heading down the iTaste route, there are many options there as well.
I can't help you there, but I'm sure many others here can.
:)

Great read and welcome to all of the information that you will ever need. Good choice in the MVP 2. Yes it is true that it has a huge fan base here... in fact I own one and love it. My tank of choice is the ProTank 2... It's simple, effective and it's glass so I don't have to worry about any juice known as a tank cracker. Good luck to you!!! :toast:

I like my protank 2 on the MVP2.
I also like the Mini Protanks on the MVP2 and I like the EVODs on the MVP 2. I still have the Iclear 30 it came with fresh clean and unused. I really like the carto/tank thing finally on the MVP2 but it is a little fiddly and clearos are easier to start out with.
I would recommend you start off with simple fill and go clearomizers with replaceable heads, try and stick with genuine product and you won't have the knock-off woes that some have.
Any of the above may work for you, you might also enjoy the journey of trying to find what is best for you. I know I have.

Well written intro you have there!

Excellent story! Looking forward to seeing many more, you have the gift to get smokers off smoking without a doubt!

I have a junk drawer full of cig-a-likes. Pfft. In a nutshell - they just suck. It's terrible that the powers that be want these horrid things to be all that's available to the common man. Ugh.

It took hanging around with guys at work vaping to stumble into a satisfying smoking alternative. Now I preach to every smoker that will listen, THIS isn't like those terrible CALs, give it a chance. Just do it.

Getting them to get over their fear, or previous experience with CALs, has been my biggest hurdle. It was mine, certainly. Cost, health, restrictions, you name it, everything is better with vaping!

Glad you came to the light, Brother!

Welcome to ECF! You have stumbled upon the finest repository of available information in the vaping world. There are many here that will chime in and give really good advice as well as the support that we all need to keep us on track. In answe to your question, I think that you will find the iTaste MVP V2 and Protank to be a good combination. You will however, most likely become prey to the "hobby" of vaping as well and there are many options to choose from. Eventually you will find what works best for you. Best of luck and if I may be of any assistance you have but to ask.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the welcome and the great information. Also, I'm glad you enjoyed reading the post--I often get absorbed in writing, but I find it enjoyable. Would you believe that was an edited version?

Maurice, I have been kicking myself off and on for awhile about my initial investment in vaping, but now I realize that it was worth every penny. Sure, I've thrown away money on cigarettes while trying to start vaping, but as of today, I have not bought a single pack in over a week. In fact, the pack is half-full and staring at me from the desk. No thanks though. Not to mention, I consider this more of an investment in what is left of my life. If I had continued down my current road, it probably would not have ended well. I think you will find something that fits your needs. :)

It looks as though I will be going with the ProTank 2. The glass element alone looks very appealing. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

One more quick question: with the MVP 2.0 and ProTank 2 combined, which coil do you recommend? How many ohms? I'm not a fan of the burned and/or hot taste, so am I correct in assuming that 1.8 would not be a good choice?

Thanks again, it's great to be here.

Fantastic read, Walter. Not only is it great to hear your story of success, but it is clear that you have a gift for writing.

I have not tried the MVP 2 yet, but every review I've read gives them a thumbs-up. My wife and I are still happy with our eGo CE5/EVOD's, but we will eventually add to our collection one day, and the MVP 2 looks like it might be the one.

Here is wishing you continued success on your quest to be analog-free! Cheers! :toast:

Hi Walter

When it comes to any of the Kanger devices I'm not a fan of low resistance coils. (They even make a 1.5 ohm. GACK!) In general, the lower the resistance the hotter the coil gets and faster. To compensate you just drop the voltage on your battery. The problem is with 1.8 ohm Kanger coils there is no place to drop the voltage down any lower. Even a 1.8 ohm coil can be a bit much at only 3.2 volts when the coil is brand new. Personally I stick with 2.2, 2.4 or 2.0 ohm coils on Kanger devices - in that order of preference depending on what is in stock and available.

At these prices if you find a vendor that sells replacement coils in singles, you can always try a one of each to find your personal preference. A PT2 will come with two coils anyway in two different resistances. Kanger seems to mix that up a bit though as to what resistance coils they include. My last Protank came with a 2.4 and a 2.0 ohm coil.

Welcome! :)

Hi Walter!! Welcome to the family :) I really enjoyed reading your story. I am so glad you didn't give up after just the cig a likes. There is so much gear to be had out there now that anyone can find an amazing vape. Your head will spin with satisfaction when you get your VV battery. When you get your MVP it will happen again LOL. Happy vaping and keep trying new gear. You won't be sorry you did.
