Howdy.

Steve here, from Tampa. Totally new to the vaping thing. Originally smoked only cloves, until they were made illegal and the new "cigars" taste like crap.

For quite some time I considered vaping, with the biggest stumbling block being a clove blend that was comparable to Djarum Blacks. After reading several reviews (including at least one here, I think), I decided on the Clove e-liquid from DIY FlavorShack. The first time, I ordered their in-house blend, 0 nicotine (I don't need the nicotine, I just like the clove flavor a LOT), and the second time, I ordered the double-flavor PG 0 nic. Both times, I can say I am totally, one hundred percent satisfied with their product.

The e-cigs, on the other hand, were a freaken nightmare. So while I did my homework on the juice, I Failed Epically on the smokes. I started by going for a black unit with green LED. The first one I came across was at electronic-cigz.com, which, I found out later, was an auto battery 401. It took FOREVER to get here, so I went down to my local circle-K and picked up a Gamucci starter kit.

AFTER I started using it and noticing the battery issues, did I look into Gamucci batteries and noticed that MANY reviewers note their batteries as the weak spot. But by then I was hooked -- I like the convenience of the auto. On the other hand, I found out the hard way two things: 1) Autos don't like dripping, and 2) Mixing vape with water can have different effects. Detrimental ones when you do both on the same unit.

Oops.

So now I have one gamucci battery that no longer activates, and one that activates but doesn't De-activate until you BLOW into it (ostensibly resetting the barometric pressure switch in the battery). My buddy has had better results becuase he followed the directions...and I didn't.

So, it's my own fault, honestly.

Finally, the little black 401 got here (though it's labeled as a 402 on the box). Complete with empty carts I filled with the clove e-juice..and...

...well, it was a bit disappointing. I don't know if it's the PG e-juice (I used up the first bottle of DIY Clove in the Gamucci...I jumped in with both feet and vaped like a madman the first night), or the smaller unit...but it just doesn't seem to vape like the Gamucci. I've tried cleaning the atty in both HP and Alcohol, and while I DO get vape, it's not nearly the same...and as someone has already mentioned...it's like a kid whistling through a straw that is really annoying -- I'd no idea it would do that.

So, now I'm kinda torn.

I like the throat hit and vape of the Gamucci, but I hate the batteries and they're expensive. I like the 401 but it doesn't have the strong vape like the Gamucci.

Do I try to find compatible batteries for the Gamucci and enjoy the better vape, or do I go ahead and order an entirely new starter kit?

I have a friend who swears by her 501. Reviews I've read here tell me the Volcano L88B is the way to go, and that the 501 drinks its battery; Considering I'm cooped up in an ambulance for 13 hours straight, now destined to be parked on at least five different "smoke free" properties, I really need something ASAP. I like the Volcano/Blu option of the charger pack and the USB pass-through which I can use with the USB port on my computer like a deranged hookah, but the bottom line is cost.

Should I go ahead and order the Volcano, or is there something else out there that would be better for me? I can't keep spending a hundred bucks each time I'm dissatisfied with a product -- and to be honest, it's not the product's fault -- it's MINE...I like to monkey and tinker with stuff.

I noticed that several members on the forum have both a "tinker" vaper for their relaxation time and a "daily" vaper for their everyday needs. I could see going Volcano Magma (The 501) for my "tinker" and the L88B (The "Volcano") for my daily. I read the Blu reviews. I really did. I take them with a grain of salt, because my vaping needs aren't quite the same as many others and the product seems to be closer to what I really need.

Since I'm not jonesing for the nicotine, it's not CRITICAL that I have these immediately...but I DO like smoking and when there isn't much else left to do...it's nice to have my black smoke dangling from my mouth while I distribute nuggets of wisdom from my internetic pez-dispenser.

Ugh. Sorry for the wall of text. So much to say...and not a rhyme or reason to its format. Apologies.

But recommendations based upon my above stated needs would be nice.

And it's okay to tell me "YFU" on my purchases...I'm cool with that. Just give me alternatives that are cost effective.

Thanks in advance.

Clove cigs have been banned for a while but a pal of mine swears by DIYFS clove flavor ejuice as well.
510 PV are great you can grab a kit for not much ($35 + $5 shipped for purchases under $59 at Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store.) that's where I got mine and I use it to this day. You can also buy them from many other online retailers but I wouldn't shell out too much $ at first - find one you like THEn shell out for fancier versions of it (the ego 510 has a bigger longer lasting battery for example, but the kits are around $70-80)
I've seen some people say they don't mind the Blu but I dont see a lot of glowing review for it - mainly Ive seen people say it was 'ok'. I have no expereince of it as I went with 510 for my first (and current) PV. I got around the battery issues by using a PT :)
I think the volcano is similar to the ego? Might even be the same unit rebranded but don't quote me on that - its a confusing world of PV names even for a non newb lol

Hi, I own a blu and i would not recommend it. if you like a super mini you may want to get a 306a. I use the 306 atty on my blu and it's a vaping beast. As far as clove e liquid goes. You might like johnson creeks marcado blend. I personally find clove's disgusting, and thought the marcado was just as disgusting, so maybe you'll like it. ;) Only thing is it's 100% VG.

I started with a 510 and passthru kit from Cignot and the ONLY issue I have/had with it was the battery not staying charged long enough. I had to pack a small suitcase whenever I left home for longer than 6 hours so when Cignot added the Ego to their selection, I ordered a kit and I couldn't be happier. One battery will last me 24+ hours and I consider myself a heavy vaper. The battery is 650mah whereas the 510 is 180mah and the added power pushes out the vapor. I highly recommend it. I believe it will be $78 well spent and all you'll absolutely have to have for quite a long time would be some extra attys. The 510 accessories work with the Ego (except for the fact that you cannot charge a 510 battery with the Ego charger). :2c:

I'm an ex-clove smoker too. I am delighted with the clove I got from Chris at My Freedom Smokes.
I use a manual 501 and also with my [FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Pure Smoke PV which is not intended to be able to refill the carts but I do and I'm pleased as punch with it, actually prefer the 'feel' to the 501.
So I know your frustration in liking features of two different PVs and wishing they were combined into one. Geez, I figure that Clove cigs cost close to ten bucks a pack before the ban and at a pack per day, I've saved a fortune by vaping so it's no big deal to invest in new PVs until I find the perfect fit.
Regarding Cloves- My clothes were forever with little burn marks resulting from the sizzle of a real clove cig. Isn't great to no longer have that worry!!
Any who give MFS a try, his Clove is yummy. I tried to post a link but I haven't graduated to an 'allowed to post link' membership level yet:glare:

madvapes.com has the Hel 16 starter kit for $50. This is a 1300mah clone of the eGo (or Tornado which is a TW licensed version of the eGo). That's 2x the capacity of the eGo. By comparison a standard 510 or 901 battery is 180mah and the 510 mega battery is 280mah. By comparison the Hel 16 battery would last 7x a regular battery or 4.5x the mega.

Oooh. Definitely want to look into the Hello 016, and I'm reading good things about the eGo 510. I'm seeing that I could use a Hello 016 battery with the eGo 510 or even the Volcano Magma. Is this true?

And clove cigarettes were banned from sale on I think September 22, 2009. Since then, the loophole is that if they are bought and paid for before they enter the country, they're not being SOLD in-country. From September to last month, I was ordering mine fresh from a website in indonesia where they are manufactured (kretek-cigarettesDOTcom). Their prices are insanely reasonable, especially considering the local prices for comparatively stale cloves (the ones from indonesia are only weeks old, instead of sitting in a warehouse for months...the flavor is strong and nice). This is why I have been so picky about my clove flavor...I'm truly spoiled by absolutely the freshest Djarum Blacks available.

I tried the White Smoke "clove" flavor in the mall and was not impressed. DIY has done right by me twice and I don't see that changing.

Thanks for the recommendations! I may start with the Hello 016, then graduate to the ego, and finally the magma, and since all three are somewhat compatible, I could probably use the 510 for all of my vaping needs just by properly accessorizing.

And yeah, I think a PT is the way to go for me, as I'm sitting in my ambulance right now, with two empty USB ports. I kinda like the idea of using my computer as a hookah. That kind of thing just tickles me.

"What'cha doin?"

"I'm smoking from my computer. Electronic smoke."

"Yer kidding."

"Nope, watch."

"Holy @#$^, how'd you do that?"

"Told ya, electronic smoke..."

Yes, I can totally see me doing that.

So now my choices are:

1) Hello 016 E-Cig kit (with 1300 mAh battery)
2) Janty eGO cig kit (with 651 mAh battery)
3) Volcano Magma e-cig kit (with...what, a 180 mAh battery? Couldn't find the specs on the Volcano Magma's battery anywhere. Anyone know for sure what the Magma's rated mAh's are? The smaller battery could be offset by the charging pack, which I think is pretty cool, carrying around the same kinda "pack" of smokes, only with different stuff inside and the ability to charge both the e-smokes and the pack itself from the wall.

Again, thank you for all who responded -- you're pointing me in the right direction.

It's a secret!
I have the Volcano and actually like it quite a bit. Even though they are mini cigs, you can still use a 510 atomizer on them as the threads are the same. The diameter of the carts is larger than the battery on the v-model so it does look funny. The battrey life is short, maybe 15-30 minutes but if you smoke cigarettes, that's not that bad.

They also sell an automatic 510 model called the Magma. The battery life on it lasts about an hour to an hour and a half. They come with the charging pack as well. I would recommend the blank 510 cartomizers for this as they hold a lot more juice and last a LOT longer than standard carts. Volcano doesn't have any cartomizers though.

Your other option is to buy a disposeable 510. The battery is rechargeable. I've seen people say they get as many as 50+ charges out of them. For $10 you get to try a 510 although it's not an automatic battery. I prefer auto's myself but you can't beat this to at least try a 510. I would recommend the 510 blank cartomizers for these as well.

Litecigusa has the disposables and cato's (that's just where I order my stuff from). Disposable 510 Vaporizer

I wouldn't try the blu's as I've heard mostly bad things about them. Volcano's customer service is absolute top notch, blu, not so much.

Just an fyi, Volcano's parent company provides guided tours of Hawaii, so they really know customer service form the top down. Blu's parent company is an internet porn company...

i don't know what to tell ya, I just got my 510 yesterday. Liking it so far, but it's definitely not the same as a cig.

But....what's this hoopla about cloves being banned?!?! Djarum Blacks were some of my favs (Bali Hais (sp?)) being great for something lighter.

Um...seriously, what happened?

The FDA went a bit crazy, and decided that cloves should count as a 'candy' flavor, and thus one that appeals to children. Nevermind that A) cigarettes shouldn't be sold to children, anyway, and therefore this is irrelevant, and B) the best way to stop a child from EVER trying smoking again in their life is to light up a nice, strong clove and hand it to 'em. They'll be gagging and puking their guts out on the first puff. Now, the only flavored cigarette you can get in the US is menthol. You can't even import them from overseas anymore, as they are seized by Customs nine times out of ten.

Awesomevapor dot com, however, has recently started carrying a very acceptable clove flavored juice (particularly when mixed with a bit of their ryu4 or their vanilla), so I can get my clove fix when I want it.

The previous poster is not _totally_ correct, though, in that all the new 'cigars' are crap. Most of them are, but I recently found, at one store (and that store _only_) some djarum 'mild' ones (white pack, red square at top with a bit of yellow trim) that aren't terribly bad... though, of course, NO clove made today even comes close to the Sampeorna Xtras that Phillip Morris destroyed. The Mild's are at least smokable on days when I want a 'real' clove.

Best wishes,

Velvet
