This is day three of smoking e-cigs and I wanted to share our initial experience with it. My apologies in advance for how lengthy this post is. I really suck at short explanations and tend to over-explain. I'm still a newb...so this is the only forum I can post in - but I'm hoping the information can be useful to anyone else thinking about trying e-cigarettes for the first time.
Day 1 - Monday, October 26th:
Our e-cig order arrives and we waited the agonizing 8 hours for the batteries to charge. Figuring we'd have greater success by having different models to experiment with - I ordered a Joye 510, M401, KR808A and a two-piece KR808D-1 (though the KR808D-1 hasn't arrived yet).
We first tried the 510 with the Marlboro (high) carts that came with the kit and the M401 with Smooth Vanilla e-juice (16mg) from litecig. Our first impression was "Hmmm....this is pretty neat - but it doesn't taste or feel anything like a cigarette."
Plenty of vapor with both the M401 and 510, but it didn't 'hit' our throats like analogs do and the units themselves felt a little awkward to hold and vape. Also, the vapor itself feels a lot lighter than analog smoke. Despite this, the experience of vaping was still oddly satisfying (and we knew from reading these boards that it wouldn't be exactly like smoking analogs anyways).
As an aside, I was happy there was no burnt or metallic taste with the 510....which I was expecting from reading various experiences on here.
So then we tried the 510 and M401 with menthol. Wow! What a difference flavor can make. The irony is that I hate menthol analogs...but it is totally different with an e-cig. Instead of hurting my lungs, it felt sort of refreshing and added a little more 'hit' than what the Marlboro cart did. My mouth even felt sort of clean afterward...like the taste of freshly brushed teeth. Oddly enough....I liked the menthol better in the 510, but my husband seemed to prefer it in the M401.
Retired to our bedroom and enjoyed the novelty of 'vaping in bed' (yet feeling irrationally 'naughty' about it). Around midnight, we both realize that we haven't smoked an analog since 6pm and didn't even have a craving for one. How cool is that! Any other night and we'd have been smoking every hour or two.
Day 2 - Tuesday, October 27th:
Woke up and had a cup of coffee with an analog. First thing I noticed was that it tasted and felt a little funny on my throat. Not painful...but a little uncomfortable and tight. I'm assuming it's from vaping too much the night before.
Started vaping after that and didn't have an analog for the rest of the day. I wasn't even TRYING to not have an analog...there was just no real craving for it. The closest I came to wanting one was after lunch, but within a minute of vaping - the craving for an analog went away entirely.
Also discovered that I liked switching back and forth between the 510 w/menthol and the M401 w/Vanilla throughout the day.
By evening - I'm relatively amazed by how effective vaping has replaced my cravings for smoking. As mentioned above, we had no real dedication to the idea of quitting analogs completely. At most, our goal was to cut down to smoking only with our morning coffee and after meals (and nookie). However, after one full day - I'd already gone down to smoking just one analog and my husband had smoked two (each on his way to and from work).
So impressed by all of this, I bring my e-cigs over to my mom's in the evening and have her try them out. We visit and vape for about an hour and she notices straight off that she didn't have a craving to smoke a regular analog during this time (normally she would have smoked 2-3 during a coffee-clutch visit like this). She decides she wants one so I order her a Joye 510 from her computer and leave her with my KR808A from ChoiceVapor.com until hers arrives.
BTW, we all agreed that the KR808A (Choice Elite) doesn't hit nearly as well as the M401 or Joye 510. Vapor production is ok...but it just feels too light on your throat...no matter how deep/long of drags you take. Tried it with Menthol and the pre-filled Marlboro carts that came with it.
Day 3 - Wednesday, October 28th:
Woke up and noticed straight off that I had no real desire or craving to smoke an analog. My throat felt a little raw from vaping. Not sure if it is a normal part of the vaping acclimation process...or if I just vaped too much at my mom's last night. Aside from that, there are no other symptoms yet. No headaches or sore muscles (though this is only my 3rd day) - though I have noticed cotton mouth, which was alleviated by drinking more water. Enjoyed my morning coffee with the M401 and felt completely satisfied afterward.
Also - I'm noticing a more pronounced 'throat hit' with the Joye 510 and M401 than I did that first day or even yesterday. I think it is because I've only had 1 analog in 48 hours...so there is less of a mental comparison being made between smoking and vaping.
My sister will be stopping by to try it out this afternoon. She's been trying (unsuccessfully) to quit smoking for the past couple of years.
In Summary:
I can honestly say that vaping has exceeded all of my expectations at this point. I didn't really believe it would (nor did I expect it to) completely replace my desire to smoke analogs. However...after only three days, that is exactly what it has done for me -- without even really trying. My husband still craves a real cigarette in the morning - but is surprised that he doesn't throughout the day or evening as long as he keeps vaping. I'm unsure as to whether our experience is typical...but I'm very excited to have all of our smoker friends/family try it out.
E-Cig Models:
I will say that I think part of our success stemmed from having a few different models right away to vape with. If I had only ordered the KR808A from Choice Vapor, which had decent vapor but very little 'throat hit' - I don't think we would have started vaping as successfully. However, we both like the M401 and the Joye 510 for different reasons and vape from them both on and off throughout the day. We are not wealthy and were hesitant about investing so much initially in multiple models....but given our unexpected success with vaping, we are glad that we did. The investment will pay for itself in 2-3 months with what we save in analogs.
Refilling Cartridges:
Refilling cartridges is far less of a pain than I thought it would be. I watched several youtube videos beforehand to see how it was done and how wet they should be. Vaping throughout the day as I work in front of my computer, I find that I just 'top off' my cart every couple of hours with the same flavor, without ever letting it get very dry. I purchased blank carts in my initial order for both the M401 and Joye 510, then filled them with different flavors right away. When I want to try something new, I just blow out the atty (to get rid of the old juice) and switch carts. Flavor has remained consistently good on both the 510 and M401.
Flavors:
Out of all the samples I purchased from Litecigusa, we've only tried the Menthol (16mg), Camel Turkish Blend (16mg), Cappuccino (16mg), Pineapple (11mg) and Vanilla (16mg) - plus the marlboro pre-filled carts that came with the kits (high). My favorites are menthol and vanilla. I probably would have liked Pineapple more if I had gotten the higher nicotine level, but I found that 11mg wasn't really satisfying me. My least favorite have been the cigarette-flavored juices (Camel & Marlboro). However, I never particularly enjoyed the taste of smoking analogs, so this is not surprising.
My husband's favorite is menthol. He has an almost non-existent sense of smell and can hardly tell the difference between the other flavors. Though he thought the Camel Turkish Blend tasted a little like a Camel Ultra Light.
Nicotine Level:
I previously smoked a half pack a day of American Spirits and my husband smoked a pack a day of Camel Crush. The 11mg juices seem too low for me, as it doesn't seem to 'satisfy' my cravings as well. The 16mg seems just right for me. However, I think the 16mg may be too low for my husband, as he needs to vape a lot more than I do to feel satisfied. I'm going to try ordering him a 24mg juice.
Vaping Frequency & Method:
This is not exact, but I seem to be taking 2-3 hits every 10 to 15 minutes while I work at my desk. I don't draw as long as I've seen people do it on the video reviews. It doesn't feel comfortable for me to inhale the vapor directly into my throat from the c-cigarette. Instead, I draw in as much as I can hold in my mouth and then inhale that. My husband occasionally inhales directly into his throat because he likes the harsher feeling it has. However, most of the time he vapes like I do...but he has a bigger mouth and can hold more vapor than I can. It's tough to gauge his frequency at this point, as he hasn't tried vaping during work yet (nor does he smoke) and seems to take 3-5 hits every 5-10 minutes when he's at home.
Vendors:
Both the LiteCigUSA and ChoiceVapor orders shipped very fast. Ordered on Thursday it arrived on Monday. The KR808D-1 I ordered from HealthCabin.net (great prices) has not arrived yet - but it is coming from china so I didn't expect it to be here until the end of this week or early next. Although I wasn't impressed with the KR808A from ChoiceVapor, I don't feel this is a negative reflection on them...but rather, that this particular e-cig model does not suit us. They also sell the other models I had more success with from Litecigusa.
Anyways - again, I'm sorry for how long this was and if this post didn't really belong in the new members forum. I still haven't reached my 15 post minimum.
This website has been amazingly useful to us and I just wanted to say thank you to the creators, moderators and contributors.
