I always sit here and as the evening comes my mind wanders. If 18650s, (490s) etc... were to stop being produced and couldn't be salvaged from laptops and stuff, could you make your own vaping gear which relied on a different source of power? Silly question I know. Just wondered. Obviously you could, but what source of power would be the most reliable?

lol. I wondered if I can make a solar powered mod which holds power for the night times as well. I then decided that most backs (particularly mine) are too small and not broad enough to hold the weight of that mod.

No... 18350, 18490 (18500), 18650 and 26650 batteries will NEVER stop being mass-produced. They were here YEARS before vaping was a thing and they'll be here well after. They're used in flashlights, portable power banks, heck they're even used in Tesla car batteries.

There's tonnes of options when it comes to batteries, easy one is using a high ohm coil that draws very little amps and any device with a usb port, something like this...

I've SEEN very knowledgeable modders create mods that used non-rechargable batteries. would get pretty damn expensive replacing them for each vape cycle.. but i saw a couple back in the day lol.

Theres no battery in my panel.

Even if 18xxx disappeared tomorrow, do you think lipo, rechargables and batteries in general will vanish too? That would leave everything from laptops to cordless tools stranded.

Even my new laptop has moved to lipo packs.

You can actually put a AA battery in a telescoping 18650 mech mod. Or you could re-purpose a flashlight with D batteries. There are rechargeable batteries and chargers at Walmart. The 510 conectors are easy to find on ebay and will still be around after the FDA vapeocalypse, so you will be able to retrofit any switched battery holder to hold an atomizer. Vaping won't die, but we may have to get creative.
