In the process of getting home from a week in Belgium. Robert was kind enough to make sure he shipped my Reo Mini in time for my trip last week. The Reo is my first mod after having tried a slew of 510 thingers. Nice enough but...

I vaped all the way from Charlottesville to Brussels last week and all the way back today. My driver in Belgium a long time friend always waited for me by luggage claim with an espresso and an open pack of reds knowing that by the time I got off an 8 hour flight, a double smoke was due. He was shocked when I turned him down for the Red. He said these are American you know, not Chinese knock off Marlboro's... Yes, they have those too...

I pulled out my Reo and showed him what it was. Eciggs are illegal in Belgium so they haven't made their way there. So much for socialist governments...

On Monday, I met with my usual cohorts, all heavy smokers and drinkers, all mechanical engineers.

They wanted to know why I wasn't out smoking with them before the meeting like I always did? I pulled out my Reo and the thing became the subject of our first hour's meeting. All of them wanted to know about this thing. Robert's little machine impressed some really smart guys.

My proof came that night when we went to the smoking bar for shots of Geneva and Belgium beer after dinner. They thought that if they pumped me up with enough booze, I'd break down and beg for a smoke. All I did was pull out the Reo and win the draw. As a matter of fact, the smell of burning tobacco isn't pleasant to me anymore. It's been 22 days and I just don't crave it. Amazing that a 40 year habit can be broken by this little machine.

Right now, am in the Crown Room in Atlanta, finishing up a 7 hour layover waiting to get home. I'm just sitting here vaping quietly in one of the laptop booths. In the past, I would have had to run out 5 or 6 times to go across the hall to the smelly smoking lounge and I was greatful that Atlanta even had one!

Such a nice read. So glad to hear that the Mini served you well! The REO's make a difference in so many lives. You have shown us once again that even after years of smoking, a REO will give you the power to walk away from the cigs and be happy. Thank you for sharing a wonderful experience!!

Torque, isn't the freedom exhilarating? Not having to plan everything you are doing to be able to have a smoke? Until I stopped, I had no idea how much smoking was controlling my life.
Well put and I absolutely didn't know how smoking reshaped my decisions.
Now, to be fair and balanced about it, now, I am obsessed with pv, attys, juice, batteries etc etc. The big difference is I view these as an investment to my future as opposed to my obsession with tobacco which was a detriment.
PS. I love your avatar. I'm a dog person but your avatar is outstanding

Boy! That's the truest thing I've read in months! I've been noticing that a LOT lately. Everything I do now is with a different mindset. When I'm in an activity (visiting the grandkids, going to the movies, going on vacation, visiting non-smokers, etc.) now that I don't think twice about, I remember how I felt about it when I was a smoker. I remember dreading vacations (flying to Hawaii for my daughter's wedding) that I'd be ecstatic about now.

Planning hotel rooms, and worrying about whether an airport where you changed planes had a smoking area, and not going to shows that didn't have intermissions or long movies, and .....

Having to call the hotel where your employer has booked you for a meeting and change the room to smoking, or Heaven forbid, they put you in a Non Smoking Sheridan!
I had to go to the hospital quickly last Tuesday evening, and didn't think to throw my REO in my bag. I was there until Thursday afternoon, with no PV, no juice. When I smoked, I would have been thinking about smoking the entire time, and been desperate for a cigarette when I was released. I was surprised this time, in that I thought about vaping, but it wasn't "all consuming" like cigarettes were. I am using only low nic juices, 6 - 8 mgs, so that may have had something to do with it. Thoughts?
Also, just FYI, I had angioplasty, and 2 new stents inserted, I had 2 stents previously, and a quadruple bypass at 40. I talked to my Cardiologist about the fact that I had quit smoking just over 3 months prior, and that e-cigs were absolutely how I was able to quit, and he was very impressed about that. He was curious about e-cigs and had nothing negative to say about them. No telling me that I needed to get off them, like I would have heard had I still been smoking. I am VERY happy about that.
