If you do go to the lav on the airplane, DO NOT blow the vapor at the smoke detector. Blow it toward the floor.

They use the cheapest smoke detectors known to man and the vapor will set off alarms. Its been done and that's a situation you don't want to find yourself in!

Holy Cow! TY for that bit of info. I certainly will avoid the restroom on the plane now 8-o I doubt I will even bother vaping on the plane I normally fall asleep before take off and don't wake up until we are at the arrival gate. (Love my doctor- hate flying)

I don't know how much but if there is some I wouldn't subject a non smoker/vaper to it.

I really can't come up with a response that doesn't come out sounding more obnoxious than intended. Can I get away with saying that this is going to sound harsher than intended?

You probably drive a car? Use electricity? buy computer(s)? So undetectable and minimally bioactive particles are bad, but incredibly noxious and toxic chemicals spewed into our breathable space is ok? I'm just curious how one draws that line from a logic-perspective?

@ PawPaw - the hotel was bad enough - thanks. ;)

@ Antithesis - "vapes on a plane" [groan] [thumbs up]

I've stealth vaped many places, I just hold it in long enough no visible vapor comes out. Movie theater, shopping, eating out, ect. I vape openly and with lots of vapor in neutral settings.

I do not hide my ecig (well I did hide the LED in the movie theater so as not to be disruptive) but I am respectful of other people. I don't think an "in your face, I have the right to do whatever I want" attitude is helpful at all, it will only alienate people to our cause.

Also...let me just say this and hope I don't come off sounding b*tchy...
I agree 1000% (yes I've had a few drinks, but that is 1000%) with ALynn...
All the things we do in everyday life are exposing people to WAY MORE harmful chemicals than expelling a little Nic Vapor. If anyone wants to dispute a little vapor, ask them if they drive a car...

Thanks, CM, I just knew I'd come off b*tchy with that post. I'm glad you read it the way I'd intended. Given our overall footprint as humans - it's not even measurable in the wild. It's just a perception of a group. I'm not all obnoxious, running around vaping in babies faces, I just bristle a little bit when ginormous blanket statements paint me with some all-encompassing illogical brush.

see, mostly, i just wanted to say 'vapes on a plane!' i didn't think anyone actually had!
I have several times now. On my way here on American Airlines business class, I vaped freely and openly, and no one said a single word.

I'm just not that much of an activist.

'bazooka: Do you have any documentation on the bioavailability or even amount of unbound nicotine that is being exhaled?
Dr. Murray Laugesen's report for Health New Zealand found that 98% of the nicotine was absorbed in the lungs, and only 2% exhaled. So, only a very small fraction of 1% of the vapor would be composed of nicotine.

EDIT: I just re-checked the report, and Dr. Laugesen got his figure from cigarette studies, and did not independently verify that figure with e-cigs. http://healthnz.co.nz/RuyanCartridgeReport21-Oct-08.pdf

I've vaped at work. The responses are colorful, to say the least. I've explained what they are, and no one gives me crap. I've handed out a few cards too, because they have the V4L website on them, and a few co-workers are interested. Paying it forward. :)

Same here Stacy! I've been vaping in the breakroom for awhile now, and everyone is cool with it. A friend at work was having a bad day, and her nic gum wasn't helping, so when I came back from lunch loaned her a xtra long batt with a nice carto. We were both vapin away!:D

Not to mention the fumes from all of the cleaning supplies and other noxious substances found in a hospital. If the hospital is in an urban environment and they open the windows and doors with any regularity (and they do), the air is already a problem. That's life.

This non-smoking craziness has really gotten out of hand. The supposed dangers of second-hand smoke in non-enclosed places have been grossly exaggerated by the smoke-free sector. And now we're actually worrying about a tiny amount of nicotine in the air? Seriously? Not me.

Planlvr...I was on the nicotine gum for 3 years..I quit cold turkey, didn't even miss it, wasn't jones'n for nicotine. Then about three months later, I had a really bad day, and bought a pack of cigarettes. That was back in March. I tried the gum again about a month ago, and it made me so sick! Weird, right? I'm so glad for these e-cigs. So so glad.

wonderful responses -- and leaford, thanks for that information, too.

i'm definitely not all about running all up into non-smoking areas and vaping just to vape. i think a lot of it, with me, is that since 2004 i've been "hiding" that i was a smoker. co-workers knew, and certain friends, but the house i live in had zero clue (so imagine the pain i went through to cover smell on my way back home, 31 miles from work). when i told my daughter (who is almost 15) about the VK and what i was doing it for and why, she was surprisingly open about it, though confused as to 'why would you want to do that when you haven't even smoked in so long?' i cited eating reasons, as i'm very close to facing a total of 5 weeks on only liquids, and didn't want to 'crave food and break the fast', as that'd undo about 8 months of preliminary work.

from there, i thought, wow.. if she accepts it, what other places would? i've watched youtube things about vaping in public; janty had commercials of a guy doing it in a restaurant, but to ME, personally, who is always looking over shoulder and wanting to stay out of 'trouble' (this comes from spending so much of my youth IN trouble!!!), i couldn't see doing it. i can't see going to red lobster and, while waiting for my food in a general or non-smoking area, suddenly vaping, and NOT getting spoken to about it. i'd bring the trusty business cards with me, but i'm just used to people who don't care to listen, read, or learn, and still say, 'it's too much like smoking, so no.'

it's helpful to hear about people who've done so and nothing's said, or having been, say, kicked out of an establishment. right now it's not a HUGE issue, because you can go to a non-smoking area in some restaurants and still smell it, because it's basically one 'room.' i'm more wondering about when my state goes smoke free this spring, what i can and can't do, and where.

that long rambly post aside, thanks everyone for responses. :)
