Ok, so I thought I would share my story. I have some civil issues going on right now, I have to evict someone from my rental property, so there is paperwork and such that has to be filed within the courthouse at the civil division. *Please don't preach how such a meany I am evicting someone at Christmas time. You could REALLY have no idea what these people have been putting me through.
Anyway, while there, I decided to whip out my PV and start vaping away to see what kind of reaction I would get.

Not one person said ANYTHING to me! Granted, there were many *looks*, not dirty ones, just people looking. I couldn't believe it.

But my story doesn't end there.

After finishing up with my business with the clerk, I had to then go to the Office of the Sheriff's Civil Division. Same building, but on a different floor.

So, in that office, I did it again. With the same result as in the Civil Clerk's office. Talk about WOW!

Couldn't believe it.............................:shock::shock::shock:

On a side note, when you fill your property with new tennents, have them sign a blank eviction notice when they sign their contract...and they date it in their hand writing. You will never have to wait for weeks and weeks to get deadbeats out of your property again...and it kinda puts the fear of god in them that you are not foolin around.

As for vaping in a public building like you did...that is awesome...

Not allowed to evict someone like that in NC. You HAVE to go through the court process. Kinda sucks really. It's like the laws are set up to protect the renters.

Something else that isn't right, without it written in the lease that the property owner may view the property with a reasonable notice, i.e. 24 hours, the tenants have no legal obligation to allow you in your own property. Not sure if I am getting this out there right, so I will tell my story as an example of what I'm trying to say.

I want to list my house for sale. I tell the tenants that I will be over next week on such 'n such a date at such 'n such a time. When I get there, I am told to leave, BY MY TENANTS, and that they aren't going to let me in. Of course I called the police because I feel like I have a right to enter my own property. Guess what. I don't. Not if the tenants don't want me in there.
And they don't have to allow my realtor in there with a prospective buyer either.
You have to have a written notice in the lease that outlines EXACTLY what expectations you have as far as gaining entrance into the property. How much notice will be required, what your intentions are, all that kinda stuff. Don't ever buy property in NC and rent it out is all I can say!

What a crock of ****

Glad to hear about your positive experiences vaping in the buildings your tax dollars pay for!

Also, I am very sorry to hear about your tenant problems. Legal problems suck to begin with, and when it involves your property intersecting with somebody else's home, it's certainly no fun. I hope all goes well with getting those tenants out of your house. Frankly, I can't believe that they think it's okay to deny you entry to your property. Regardless of what the law says, that shows very poorly for the caliber of people that they are. You don't want people like that on your property. Good luck!!

That just blows my mind. You own it. Its yours. The people in it are just living there. Talk about laws that protect the renters... They could be growing weed or cooking .... and you would never know...

Anyway, kudos on vaping in the courthouse. Wish I had the balls to do something like that. :D

In the land of no hills and red dirt
Check with your state bar association, they should have pamphlets detailing your rights and responsibilities as a landlady. They should also have the same for tenants. Get both, and read them well. Hire an attorney to draft up a lease that meets your expectations and save you some exaggeration.

I've smoked in my county courthouse, in front of, and at the insistence of the deputies. :D

Whenever I'm in a non-smoking area though, I stealth vape: discreetly take a puff and hold it until I don't exhale any visible vapor. Conspicuously inhaling and exhaling vapor in a no smoking area is rude, inconsiderate and asking for trouble. IMO, it will only take a handful of idiots to get vaping banned and ruin it for everyone.
