I had no idea what kind of threads her new iStick 30 has, nor what kind her other mod has that stripped. Just passed along a suggestion given to me, since one mod she has is toast because of stripped threads. Figured it couldn't hurt.
I have several iStick 20w and I always use an Ego adapter on them. One has the bending adapter. It is very necessary on them. There were many people who ended up with stripped threads. I believe the mini iStick has the same threads.

People complained to Eleaf about it and several other problems with the 20w. They made many improvements and added features to the 30w before releasing it.

I wasn't reprimanding you for your suggestion, just pointing out that it's not really an issue with the 30w.

Yeah, an overpriced battery will help with vendors selling her the wrong coils! ...
The kayfun might be a good suggestion, but when having enough trouble with more user-friendly equipment?

Gotta be better than being palmed off with a load of crap all the time.

Replacable coils are too expensive.

A provari v2.5 isn't overpriced, which was actually the fundamental point i was making. Both the Provari 2.5 and the Kayfun are designed to last, no more throwing money away. You buy one you're done. Unless you didn't read my post properly and thought i was recommending the P3, which i wasn't !.

Anyone would think i was recommending some bad hardware.

You really do need to read my post again.

I said it was something worth thinking about for the future, genius !.

Something that will last and won't consistantly keep costing money.

So do you think $80 is overpriced ?.
A Provari for $80 ?.

Are you high ?.

I think the "in the future" part was very clear.

It's great as a second or third mod - I'd have pulled my hair out if it was my first regulated mod. I mainly wanted one because of their reputation for great longevity.

I have 2 minis and one of them is super finicky. I found all the button clicking and counting to change the settings annoying and confusing at first.

I'm a lot like the OP, just wanted decent gear to keep off the cigarettes, with as little hassle as possible.

Busy people without a lot of spare time (housewifing is hard work and contrary to popular belief, not without its stresses and often has little down time) don't like to have to think to relax, we just want it to happen, lol.

There's a lot in this thread about future suggestions, which seems to me to cut it's signal to noise ratio, there's a whole forum here full of future suggestions, whereas the OP needs to get through more basic hurdles first. She's also spent a lot already. Wasn't trying to be harsh, maybe should have put (j/k) after my comment.

As to the Provari 2.5 itself, in the long term maybe one would be good for me, but if I decide that it will be a result of trying a more power etc. with more flexible units myself and deciding I can work within its limitations and enjoy its advantages. I'm not impressed with the difficulty of finding specs on their website, seems too much "trust us, we're the best".

The "Gotta be better than being palmed off with a load of crap all the time" line seems typical of Provari fans and is inaccurate.

There also seems to be a sort of battery fetish on this board: Having problems with the topper, get a better battery ;) .... While battery units have displays and fancy stuff, I consider the atomizer side more interesting, and your needs there determine everything else.

If this 2.5 was still being sold at $300 i would completely agree with you. $80 is a steel for this robust tube mod. It's the Kayfun that's over priced, over engineered. Love using the Kayfun though, use it everyday for tooting along with the Arovari. Alternately i use a high powered box mod. I'm using my IPV4 at the moment and have a Zephyrus wired with 4 coils ohm'ing in at 0.15. The IPV4 cost about the same as the Provari. In fact i have other older mods which which cost about the same too but are no where near as robust as the Provari.

I suppose the point i'm making really is that if someone wants to make vaping a long term thing it doesn't have to cost a fortune, they should just make sure they buy some good quality hardware, something that will last.

Building a coil for the kayfun doesn't require a whole heap of knowledge. It will be used for a low powered mod anyway so no danger with battery safety. Also only a little knowledge of ohm's law is needed to build a coil in this device. I often use 29g kanthal, 11 wraps with an inner diameter of 3mm which creates and ohm'age of around 2.5. 29g isn't to fragile so changing the cotton is quite easy. Used only for tooting i expect this coil i'm using to last for months so no real hangup on having to build a coil. I'm not expecting to have to replace neither the Provari or the Kayfun for years.

    Hello,
Im having some issues on getting the right equipment and its getting frustrating. July 3rd 2014 I put down the cigarettes and picked up a vape and havent looked back (much) I havent touched a regular cig since but somedays it seems like it would be so much easier.
I started with a cheap kiosk vape pen. Plastic tanks. That route and upgraded batteries to an eGo twist. That worked for the 1st year. I got along pretty good with them but the tanks were $6 each and very unreliable. Some would last 2 days some would last 2 weeks.. But it worked to get me off the cigs.
Then my husband (Who pays for all the gear I buy) decided that I needed to get a better system so Im not needing a new tank all the time. We went shopping at the 1 vape store within a reasonable driving distance (I live in a very rural area, No city shopping for me)
I left with a Kanger box and an Aspire Nautilus tank, and extra batteries. To the tune of somewhere around $150 or a little more.
2 weeks later I needed more coils I got back to the store, They dont carry the coils. What? But a very helpful and somewhat clueless employee helped find me another tank that they do carry the coils for. It was a kanger tech protank 2. took it home.... Sigh and things went down hill fast.
It leaked and gurgled and cause all kinds of problems. I have to keep cleaning it up and suffering through mouthfuls of ejuice (Very un-tasty) coil after coil..but I was making it work, somehow. Then one day it quit screwing into my battery. Like the threads wore off. (Probably cause of all the leaking and constant removal to clean it up. )
So back to the store I go. To talk to the guy who stocks the vape supplies (We will call him Mr. Attitude). I explained the problems, presented him with both tanks and asked.. What do I do now? He sent me out the door with coils for my Aspire Nautilis But instead of the 1.6 ohms I had to get 2.8 oms. I asked what the difference was and if it needed more volts, etc if was a hotter hit... I was told no difference just a bigger cloud of vapor.
Took it home, replaced the coil and sat down to enjoy a good vape session. Yeah Not so fast it leaked and leaked all over. I did research, trouble shooting. Tried a bunch of tips from cleaning the whole tank and reassemble to replacing another coil in it. No avail. The ejuice runs out of the holes and down my arm... Sigh now Im getting frustrated. then it stops screwing into my battery box. My husband looks at it and says the threads are stripped on the box. Great, just great.
Meanwhile... My pile of vaping junk is getting bigger and Im back to a plastic tank on an ego battery that I had left over from the beginning. Now I have to yet again ask my husband to go through the shopping for a vape one more time and lay out another $150-$200 for a vape rig this weekend. This is not gonna be pretty.
My question.... What is going on? Is it normally this hard to find a decent rig? I dont need anything fancy. Im a housewife who just wants to vape so I dont start cigs again and so my husband chain smoking in the livingroom isnt giving me fits while I try desperately to avoid a relapse of the nastiess.
Theres so much info on this site but Im gonna be honest as a newbie, trying to read about all this stuff and understand the technical side of it all.... Its making it worse. Im not an engineering master. I dont wanna build stuff and experiment. I just want a tank that has good flavor and batteries that last for a day. Is this too much to ask?
*Sigh* signed "A very frustrated Vaper"
I've had some of the same issues as you with devices, fortunately I have an awesome vape shop a few blocks away from my home - I live in Chicago so it can be pricey (they tax the bejeezus out of us but that's another story) so I have turned to online shopping for devices and juice. I just got a Kangertech Topbox mini kit on eBay for $60 and free shipping. Comes with the mod, top filling tank, charger and an assortment of coils. You will need to purchase an 18650 battery though. No screwing and unscrewing the tank because it's a top fill - comes in a few colors too! Easy peasy!

Believe me I know the frustration. It's very very frustrating when your device is giving you issues. Whether it be low vapor production or whatever it might be. The most frustrating I think is when you can't get a draw off your device. So to try to help there's some precautions to take. First make sure everything is clean. Make sure you have plenty of juice in the tank. I top mine up regularly maybe excessively but it helps. Make sure your battery has a full charge or at least decent and always have a fully charged backup. And your draw is important so I don't know how you draw on it. Your probably drawing on it just fine but just in case. It's hard to explain how to draw on it but it's not like a cigarette it's a slower longer drag. But steady you still have to apply some suction to it. But anyways reread your post so this is maybe more for others but as far as leaking goes. It could be so many things. So maybe I can't really help here I'd make sure everything is tight. Not too tight but make sure that coil is snug and also don't pull to hard. Slow and steady. Also it could be the orings or the seals. They could be lose which is causing leaking.
