Vaping Noob Saying Hi

Hi,

So...been smoking since I was 14 and trying to quit for about 3 years. Have managed to get down to the point of (anti-)social smoker in that every time I take a drink I lust after that smokey feeling. Other than that I never miss it (no cravings during the week / at work e.t.c.). Even saying that I've been smoking the lightest cigs I could find (a'la Marlboro Ultra Lights in the US, Silk Cut (whatever their weakest was) when I lives in the UK).

So thats my smoking past, today I stumbled upon an Ad for E-Cigs and after much research ended up here and have been reading through the site with great interest.

I've just ordered up the Elegant Mini Kit from CigEasy so now waiting with bated breath (no pun intended). Hoping to join the world of vapers and ditch those nast cancer sticks ASAP.

So what do I love?...the TH and the experience, thick smooth rich smoke/vapor feeling of exhaling. To this date I never thought I would find that without a real cigarette. I honestly believe I have kicked the nicotine / tabacco side of the addiction, now for me its just the enjoyment of the feeling / ritual.

That aside I have one question. Given that I have just ordered the CigEasy Elegant, if I want nicotine free but tabacco flavoured cartidges for this contraption what should I be looking at? Still a bit confused by what all the different refill options are.

Otherwise just wanted to say hi all. I eagerly hoping this could be a new leaf for me!

Hello and welcome to the ECF (family).....i am pretty new myself, but i would advise you to help you to quit smoking to get some nic in your juice. but it is ur choice.. and u would need to get the flavor Tob that u would want in 0mg=no nic..but try to get some w/ nic..just in case..IMO..and also would think about an extra bottle of juice.. the carts do not last very long, and u can refill them. Hope this helps a lil til someone a lil more experienced comes along to answer you. Good luck on your journey!

Hi, gareth, nice to meet you!

Just for your information, nicotine itself is sort of like caffeine. It's not bad for you in small doses (like with vaping) and it has many benefits:

- Reduces ringing in the ear (if you have damaged hearing)
- Improves alertness and vision while in your system
- Helps prevent/reduce Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Syndrome
- Nicotine passes through your body in 3 hours

In cigarettes, there's tar, and that's the killer stuff. You don't have tar in e-cigs, so you might want to have a little nicotine in your liquids. Nicotine is what really gives the throat hit. The only downside of nicotine is that it's addictive, but not any more than alcohol, caffeine, and for many, sugar.

Many light smokers tend to be happy with 6-12mg strength e-liquids, and for practically everyone, there's no need to get stronger than 24mg. At low doses like this, you can vape lightly and be fine, or vape heavily, and get a lot of nicotine. With stronger liquids (like 36mg-48mg) just one or two puffs and your head will spin. You get a rush of nicotine, so you don't have much control over how much you're taking in.

Just some info to help you out. Cheers!

Hi Gareth, Welcome! Congratulations on being able to kick those cigarettes, I was never able to do it. Since most of the suppliers cater to recently ex-smokers, most of them stock the higher mg nic juices. 24mg seems to be the most popular. To my surprise I have found that to be a bit high for me (I'll get a headache when I vape too much). You may need to go to the suppliers who special mix all their juices to get the tobacco flavors in the lower nic levels. I have also found (again to my surprise) that the longer I vape (it's been 6 months now) the less I like the taste of tobacco and am leaning more toward the other flavors. It's really hard to project what kind of a vaporer you're going to be, you just have to try on various things and see if they fit. That's part of the fun. Enjoy!

Mrs T's site?

It's Ms. Ts. Tammy makes everything to order, and she's probably a one-girl shop, so it can take a week or two to get your juices. I haven't tried them yet (still waiting), but everyone here who remarks about her juices says "They're soooooooooooo goood!"

A lot of vendors have 0 nic juice. I was 2+ packs/day for nearly 30 years, and 24 mg juice seems to work well for me (although I'm not completely off analogs yet). My taste is improving, so I've ordered various flavors to try in case it gets to the point where tobacco tastes bad to me.

Welcome from a fellow noob!

Greetings Gareth, glad you could join us!

Your Elegant is identical to a Riva (improved Joye eGo type pv), so you have a great unit that you can stay with for a long time. I have both eGo's and Riva's and prefer the Riva.

Your kit comes with prefilled cartomizers (cartos). I use separate atomizers (attys) and cartridges (carts) because I prefer to drip. I just started with cartos for when I'm on the road.

If you want 0 nicotine, there are ways to empty your prefilled cartos (reverse Taryn spin) and refill with 0 nic juice (available from most juice suppliers). Recommend that you pick up a bunch of empty cartos and 0 nic juice and fill your own. I use the Boge blank cartos (not the SLB ones) from VaporKings (5 for 8.95) which hold from 25-30 drops of juice.

Most custom mixers (Tasty Vapor, DIY FlavorShack, Ms.T's Bakery, et al) will make zero nicotine juice for you if requested.

All the best to you Gareth!!

the kits, depending on the type.. are lacking usually in the TH area.
i stopped smoking for a while but then both my crappy batteries died and i switched back till my next came in along with a passthrough. the PT (passthrough) was a pain, it worked, then didn't, then did for a while then poof no more worky.

after a while, or now since i'm telling you about it, you will roll around into the mods section. we use 3.7v batteries (some are different volts), like trustfire 10440 (size of AAA), 14500 (AA), or others. you get a longer lasting vape and more TH even though it is still the same voltage as the stock batteries. they just perform better. i can now stop smoking because of the mods section.

if you are looking into the DIY of juice, check out DIY Flavor Shack by E-Cig Smoke Store
Dawn, is the person that makes and sells things from that site. i haven't personally talked to her but everyone that has loves her. it's where i got all my diy stuff. her juice is beyond good. shipping is awesome.

for juice if you want a good vape i say stick with PG, though it will make your mouth dry.. that will tend to level out the more you vape pg.

welcome, and vape your face off!

Dawn is simply incredible. I have stopped reading juice reviews and trying to order the latest and greatest juices from various suppliers. DIY FlavorShack is now my go-to supplier. I trust Dawn and her DIY kits to keep me happy and satisfied from here on out.

Agree with this one! I am smitten with Thin Mint, Banana Cream... list goes on. Some of Dawn's descriptions notes 'One my of fave liquids' so I ordered some of what she likes personally - Cotton Candy, Spearmint Bubblegum... I have not been disappointed yet! I even tried the flavor-of-the-month club, and got 3 liquids - Mesquite Tobacco, Margarita, and Chocolate Eclair.

Dawn's a fantastic mixologist.

My next purchase is for some of the other popular flavors. DIYFS is my go-to for any and all dessert flavors, I often get them with double-flavor when available, so I can enjoy the stronger taste, or add things to it and still have that flavor come through.

My vote for DIYFS, highly, highly recommended! Psst... you have to try Thin Mint, no matter what!

Welcome garethbp. I am a newb here too, only been off analogs for 3 days, but you have come to the right place for info and support. I have been smoker for 47 years and smoked 3 packs a day for about the last 5 years. Since starting on the Joye 510 I have not even had one craving so far. I think I have finally found my solution to quitting the coffin nails!!!
