I dont even know why this kind of question even arises at all. Common sense would tell you that no, no its not ok to vape on the plane. Actually, I wouldnt have even asked that question at all because of common sense. I would just do what I do in a public placce, indoors and go use the restroom for a quick fix if there isnt a bar/lounge for you to vape publicly. But, like I said, this is just common sense to me. Im by no means trying to be rude or mean, im simply saying, use common sense. Dont piss people off, it simply gives them ammo to ban what we really enjoy doing and you would be the cause of that if you were to sneek and get caught.

I second what Bella Chic said. There's too many people out there with a stick up their ... just waiting for ignorant vapers to piss them off & give them a reason to raise hell about vaping. When you were a smoker you made it through flights without lighting up. And you can still make it just fine now. Remember- all it takes is a couple dumbasses making a bad decision in front of the wrong people. Don't be the one to give them ammo against us.

I actually think common sense would tell you (anyone) that it is okay to vape on a plane. Why a vaper would think otherwise is interesting to me.

Common ignorance and way rules are set up to counter common sense, would tell me that if you are in a thread and people are telling you it is prohibited on all airlines, then it is a risky proposition. Kinda like how it is risky to trust that you'll get to your destination guaranteed when traveling on a plane.

Common sense tells me there's almost no reason to travel by plane anymore, other than one thinks they need to be somewhere, and plane is for them the best option to get there. If that is your choice, and you like to respect rules, then don't vape. If by chance you choose to buck the rule, and vape anyway, good luck and know that common sense suggests you will bring absolutely no harm to the plane nor fellow passengers on that flight.

Become very chatty with everyone around you, explain how badly you're struggling not being able to vape, and how vaping is not at all like smoking, and how you managed to quit smoking through vaping, and how misguided the FDA and FAA are on their rulings, and how unfair it is that you aren't allowed to vape and yet people are allowed to use the patch, or asthma inhalers, and how the pilots are allowed to control the cabin oxygen to below OSHA-allowed levels just to save a few bucks on fuel, which is a bigger danger, comment exhaustively about the fact that planes flying at commercial altitudes expose the passengers to significant levels of radiation and how radiation causes cancer like how about those people in Nagasaki and Hiroshima and Chernobyl and those reactors in Japan that have been spilling radiation into the air and ocean since the tsunami a year and a half ago, and how come there's never any coverage of that in the news even though everyone knows how dangerous that is etc. until eventually the flight attendant and everyone else around you says "Vape the damned thing and ....!".

Officially the FAA and DOT have not ruled on e-cig use in flight. They officially left it to the airlines. If you read in the back of your airlines in-flight magazine, you will get your "official" response. In almost all of them, e-cigarettes are on the "prohibited" list. So while vaping in air will not likely get you placed in federal custody, the airline itself may take action.

You would Think So. Wouldn't you.

Or maybe there is a Dark Side to Vaping that people don't want to talk about?

The Dark Side to me is as simple as understanding that if vaping were allowed, by rules, on flights, then I'm guessing everyone reading this thread would be okay with it and participate in that practice.

But as it is not permitted by rule, then there is the position of 'can't you wait x amount of time?' Which is a decent question and one all of us answer in some fashion at some point. But becomes 'dark' when that question is asked by non-nicotine user as to why don't you just quit altogether? Can't you go thru life without needing nicotine? Common sense answer to that is yes. Yes you can. Everyone can. But not everyone chooses to. Hence, some choose to live on this (so called) dark side of things and experience life from whatever that dark side perspective offers.

Which incidentally includes everyone that's ever visited this planet, but who cares about little trivialities such as that?

All I know is when I Fly, I put me e-Cigarette in my Carry On Luggage, Fly to where I'm going, and when I'm Outside the Airport Terminal, I take out my e-Cigarette and Take a HUGE Hit.

Just like I did when I Smoked Cigarettes.

...that's sort of impossible, when flying 10-12 hours across the Atlantic ocean.

:glug:
Yeah, the smoking section on a Dreamliner sucks. ;)

Why is smoking banned in Airplanes?
Science has shown 2nd hand smoke to be almost harmless. So why does prohibition persist?
Smoking used to be allowed almost EVERYWHERE. Big Pharm changed all that and now some/most believe the BS they puke.

Strange world...

I

Because breathing secondary smoke is obnoxious. Whether or not the science supports the hazards of second hand smoke is moot. When I was in the Navy, going into the sonar shack was unbearable because it was a vast cloud that made your eyes water because of the smoke.

Smoke at the very least is an irritant. Ever been on the wrong side of a campfire? Not fun. A plane full of smokers was not fun either.

Vaping is a different story as it is not as much as an irritant, but I do have a friend that claims my second had vape does irritate his throat, and he's not an ANTZ. He actually doesn't mind me vaping in his car or at his house. But in the car, he asks that I hold it in longer because if he does get a face full of cloud it irritates his nose and mouth.

Well, It makes sense that you can't smoke e-cigarettes on planes. The burning plastic and overheated metal would be objectionable to most, and when the battery finally blows it would probably scare the pants off of most of the passengers and crew!

So stick with vaping, wherever you decide to do it!

I remember when you could Smoke on Airplanes. It was Usually in the Back of the Plane.

It was Funny to see Non-Smokers in the Back with the Smokers. But they would Bare the Smoke to sit in "Safer" Seats in the event of a Crash.
