Vaping PG or PG only

I want to start making my own juice but trying to perfect a PG/VG/nic base. When I vape only VG or PG I do not get a bad taste but in each case it will irritate my throat to where it makes me cough. Is this normal. I got the PG , VG and nic (18 mg/ml) from Wizards Lab. I have not mixed any nicotine with PG/VG yet.

I may not reply quickly because I work 3rd shift. Thanks for any replies.

I have been following this forum since I started Ecigs last December.Good stuff in here. I use a nautilus at 1.8 ohms with a istick 50W.

I vape around 1.5 ohms at 15 watts on a iStick 30. Too much nic irritates my throat.
I started out at 18 mg/ml and now at 1 mg/ml. My mixes are at 50/50 PG VG.
Some folks find that PG irritates the throat because they have an allergic reaction. Suggest you try a mix with all VG and thin it down with distilled water so it will vape in the Nautilus. I don't use a Nautilus but I have read that 30PG and 70VG may work/vape. You would need to mimic the consistency of the 30/70 pgvg when you add only VG and dist. water.
Maybe someone reading your question can give you better advice? Hope this helps.

You didn't state if ready-made liquid makes you cough too? If not, then it sounds like there's something wrong, but it sounds strange to both affect your bought pg and vg...

As others stated, you could try adding distilled water, which maybe where in your previously used ready-made liquid. Or saline, like danny stated, which i've also heard recommended before but never tried.

If the irritation is because of dryness, then I get that too, but in my case, it was the same with both straight pg, vg and with nic combos. That's not surpricing since both pg and vg and nic are all hygroscopic, so that it draws moisture out of your mouth and throat and is retained and blown out in the exhaled vapor. I've never tried saline, allthough i've often wanted to but forgot. For me, distilled water dosen't help, but I don't really see how it should either, since it's not left in your mouth/throat, but condenced into the exhaled vapor. I use it for wicking, performance and taste enhancement aid. I have just gotten used to the dryness, and only really think about it, when vaping right after having brushed my teeth, where it's more pronounced, for some reason? I guess it's because there's extra vg in your mouth from the toothpaste, which enhances the hygroscopic moisture "out-drawnings-effect" of vg, pg and nic?

Again, if this is something just related to diy, and you use same atty and watt's as previously, then it's a little strange, unless you got a brand which just dosen't agree with you...
