So I was watching Blade Runner for the 450th time last night and it got me thinking that there are people smoking in it (I know its noir etc). I can't think of any futuristic/sci-fi film I have ever seen had a different nicotine delivery device in it.
I always find it interesting that sci-fi is a reflection of the time its made in rather than the future we're going into, but it seems strange that so few directors/screenwriters have thought that there would be an alternative to smoking
Minority Report as I remember had some new form of device for administering opiates or something, not sure if I remember seeing any cigarettes.
In The 5th Element isn't he smoking some sort of cut down cigs?
In everything else I can think of they just smoke normal straight up cigarettes, thoughts?
