Jude, just wanted to let you know, yes I purposely liked your posts. They weren't accidental likes.

I just threw out an almost full carton of cigs a couple of weeks ago. They had been sitting there since September. We had a ceremony as they were going into the garbage. There was a slight moment of panic that I didn't let my Hubby see. But I told myself that I haven't needed them in so long and to just let them go. We moved from Philly to Florida and I wasn't going to pack them up and bring them with me. That was a Huge step in more ways than one.

To the OP, up your nic a little. Try to keep your nic level in your system so you don't crave. Think of it like the patch. The patch delivers nic constantly to keep nic in your system. That is why most of us chain vape. We don't just sit there vaping constantly one hit right after the other. I take a hit and then maybe a minute later another hit. After a while it does slow down. Just give your body time to adjust to the lack of smoking thousands of added chemicals. Also water will help speed the flushing of those chemicals out of your system.

You like me!! You really like me!!

Congrats, Robino, on your move and your "in the garbage" ceremony. Like I said, I haven't even wanted one for nine months, but I'm on a business trip and on every other trip since I've started vaping, I've put that last pack in my suitcase. This time, I put it in, then took it out, and even after all this time, and knowing how stale and disgusting those smokes would be, I still felt that slight twinge of panic. That, "I'm going to be in a strange town and what if in the middle of the night I really, really, really want a cig and I don't have any with me???" but it was only slight and it passed and I didn't bring them. And, of course, I have been fine without them. Not fine, great.

I'm glad we both left our cig habit in PA. Have a wonderful long, healthy life in FL. :toast:

I like to put the pack of cigs somewhere out of sight. If I want a cig, I vape first, maybe find something that needs to be done and do it. I put off having a cig.

I also got a really nice PV. Sure, it was quite a bit of money up front but I realized that I needed to feel secure about my vaping device so I got a device that is easy to use and I can have plenty of [cheaper] batteries for. I also decided to step up to Vivi Novas and carto/tank combos.

I'm using my X2 ego style batts when I am out in the yard and such.

Since getting the better PV, I have cut back from 7 cigs a day to 2 or 3. I figure I am just not ready to let go of those last few cigs yet. Does that make me a bad person - NO! I smoked for 30 years. I am doing fantastic.

I really think that when the security of knowing that my gear is working and I have enough reliable gear here in the house and I have plenty of DIY materials and I know of some juices I can buy that I love - when all that relieability sinks in deep enough - I will give up the last 2 or 3 cigs a day.

Make sure you have some higher nic juice available for when you can only vape on your breaks but lower nic for chain vapiong. It is worth the effort IMHO

PS - I am six months of vaping.

OP, what PV are you using? Nothing was finally doing the trick for me until I got a big vv tube and a vv bottom-feeder. I had been sure a PV upgrade wouldn't make a difference, but it honestly did. You can do this:toast:!!

Where can I find some info on a VV bottom feeder?

Thanks for all the support. This is my second time around vaping. The first time I went weeks without a cigarette, I smoked 1 a week or even less. But this time around it isn't working. I've tried 24 mg straight from the bottle, vaped 18 mg for months until I got PG sensitivity. My throat was sore for days at a time. I smoked during those days to let my throat recover.

Something isn't working here, and it's not just willpower. Maybe my brain got used to vaping and that's why it isn't working now... Thing is, no matter how hard I try, it isn't working. And it's not liquid, I've tried from the cheapest to the most expensive, including with the alcaloids. Worst thing is that my vaping budget is small (around 150 dollars) and I spend most of it in liquids. Ego twists and T3 are not that bad, as a matter of fact they get me through the day nicely.

I'll try again high nic (although the liquids will take a while) but I don't think I'll stand it. I haven't decided yet to take up smoking completely or not. I generally don't buy cigs, just keep a 10 pack in the car. But most nights I can't wait to go find it.

The T3 is the closest thing to a bottom feeder you can get. With little wicks and no filling you get the most of flavor possible. A REO isn't in my budget for the time being, even with a rebuildable atty.

Thanks everyone for the support, it keeps my spirits up a lot!!!

I hear what many of you have said re: mind games and not beating ones-self up. I tried a year ago to vape instead of smoke with no transition period and found that did not work at all. Crappy starter equipment didn't help either. Now, i'm about a month in, still smoking the occasional analog (about 1-3 per day) and finding strangely enough that the less I care about quitting smoking, the more effective it is. Coupled with a growing love for all things vape-able the trend is a good one.

All my previous attempts to quit where I hounded myself, forced myself, gave myself rules etc. plain did not work. Perhaps I don't respond well to authority ;). It only made me a fiend and doomed me to failure.

This time around, i'm simply not caring if analogs exist, vaping as much as I want as often as I want with as much nic as I feel I need and thoroughly enjoying the hobby that vaping is to combat the tobacco fiend in me. Also I'm finding DIY (hardware and liquid) to be so engrossing and exciting that I forget the cancer sticks even exist.

Everyone is different but all can agree - ditching the addiction is hell and ANY progress is good and deserves congrats in my opinion :)

best of luck mate!

It took me five month of vaping together with smoking before I quit the cigarettes. I was a pack and a half per day smoker for thirty five years. I gradually cut down the number of cigarettes I smoked each day, replacing the cigarettes with vaping. When I got down to anywhere from three to six cigarettes a day I just said it was time to either quit smoking of stop pretending I was trying to quit with vaping. I considered WTA, but decided I rather be hooked on nicotine alone rather than nicotine plus other alkaloids in WTA. So I took the dive and didn't look back.

Yes, it will be rough for the first two weeks.

If you want to keep smoking, keep smoking. That's something not many at ECF are going to say out loud. But, it's your life and it's your body. It's you and it's your choice. You won't ever quit because people told you to, you'll only quit if you yourself want to. Up your nicotine level if you want, as that would probably reduce cravings. Check out more tobacco flavors like people are suggesting. Follow these suggestions but ONLY if you want to. We at ECF don't need to tell you how bad smoking is for you. You know that already. Don't do this for us, do it for you.

I vaped for two years before I quit the last few cigs. I went from 2 packs a day down to 6-10 cigs a day the first week. One day, I was smoking my after dinner cigarette and had my eGo in my pocket. I took a hit off the cig, blew it out, and then vaped my eGo. I did that alternately for several days and finally decided that the cigarette tasted nasty and the ecig tasted good. Once I convinced my thought processes that ecigs tasted better, I decided to quit buying cigarettes.

Funny thing, I never missed smoking cigarettes after that. I had cut my smoking down to a small amount and was getting all the nic I needed from the ecig. It was really easy once I decided to do it. I'm not one who ever was able to quit without nervousness and attitude issues. I was like a fish out of water all the other times I tried. It was the ecig that made the difference. Up your nic level if you have to, but the thought of quitting is sometimes worse than doing it.

I just got a Phoenix rba dripper in the mail. I have been using wta but in a tank it generally would be mixed with some left over of what ever I had in the tank so it would be somewhat diluted. Well, I filled the Phoenix with wta & WOW. This stuff is on a whole other level. The regular nic does the job for me but now & then I find 'something' is missing. What I shall do now is keep the dripper topped up with wta & hit it every now & then. I would vape it all the time (it tastes wonderful)but it is cost prohibitive for me. My advise for someone in your boat is get some wta & it will scratch the itch. This coming from a 50yr 3pad smoker. Like I said, the reg nic is great,as it will take one up the hill, but the wta will take one over the top. I guess the best way I could describe it is to say that it finishes what the reg nic started. Try it so you don't go back to smoking, please. Hang in there.

No, not many... Most people start vaping to quit. I started because I wanted to replace tobacco. I say - don't sweat it. Vape when you can, and if the cigs are still there, at least you cut out SOME of it and that is a gain.

can I be honest?...Vaping as a cigarette "alternative" may not work for everyone...For me ..I was desperate to quit smoking a pad of marbs and tried other methods of "quit smoking with this" and they all failed...I wanted to quit BAD!!!..

Vaping worked for me and made not smoking bearable, yeah it had some rough moments in the beginning in the first 12 hours where my mind was still in cig mode.

I think the main thing is to decide if you want to quit smoking OR if you want to cut down and vape a little for kicks

not trying to be rude but yo man...man up...take your uncomfortable lumps and put the cigs down and give Vaping a real honest try without the option to smoke in your head...as long as you provide your mind with the option to smoke without the equal desire to be a non smoker your brain will chose the instant gratifying result of burnt nicotine along with all the other 3 thousand chemicals every time

just so you know im rooting for you ...with the right gear and liquid you should be able to replenish your nicotine levels with relative ease
just gotta want it bad enough.
