USB ports are too delicate, IMO, especially the micro ports. I haven't had any fail that didn't involve kids, but USB ports don't respond well to any kind of forced entry. :)

I've started vaping for a 6 months, and I always vape directly infront of my laptop.

Yesterday my laptop suddenly shut down itself and could not be turned on whatsoever, so I brought it to repair.

They said that inside my laptop there's a lot of vaping residue, and some parts of the machine are getting rusted.

Is it possible that the residue damaged my laptop?

Or it's just a coincidence that my laptop died at this time? (I have used it for almost 5 yrs).

Does anyone have a similar experience?

Any laptop will be filled with dust and any other atmospheric gunk after 5 years, imo. I try to open mine up and blow out the dust every couple of years as well as reapply thermal paste to the heat sink.

I have a tablet hanging on my wall in the kitchen, mainly for recipes and entertainment.

But just 1 laptop.

It might be just coincidence, as your laptop isn't new. I had one that didn't last two years. But Fad and mcclintock have some very good points that deserve consideration.

From making homemade soap, I do know that glycerin is a humectant--that is, it attracts water from the air (humidity). This buildup isn't sticky and smelly like nicotine. It is more like...not exactly greasy, but more like a slick film Any dust that lands on that surface will attach to it and slow down moving parts over time (fans, maybe hard drives?). The rusting could be from the humectant properties of the VG, gathering moisture from the air, not sure.

I used to clean the guts of my computer every year or so when I smoked. Even with an exhaust fan in my window to take out the smoke, the computer had a sticky, dusty buildup, especially noticeable on the fans. Maybe we should blow out the insides on a regular basis and spray contact cleaner in there for good measure?

As an aside, my hard drive was replaced last year when it suddenly wouldn't boot up one day. But my computer was born in 2000, so I really couldn't blame it on anything in particular.

I've had a laptop for 4 years, vaping for most of that time. I usually exhale the vapor right into the laptop or to the side of it where the fans are. If I'm home my laptop is in front of me. So let's say 10 hours a day vapor is hitting my laptop, was more time when I was taking online college courses. Zero problems whatsoever with my laptop. Well except for me not liking laptops to begin with and windows 10 is meh haha. However, I maintain it. Take it apart and clean the fans out and such.

friend of mine who does vape videos and, is a self professed "vape train" as in locomotive worthy clouds lost his laptop this week due to vaping in front of it a lot.

My big desktop handles it fine, but, it has a lot more air flow and, is always in a climate controlled environment, laptops don't have that luxury.

I'm guessing the video editing and old thermal paste is what killed his laptop. Laptops (especially the old amd cpu ones) barely manage to cool themselves at idle. Modern laptops don't really have those issues. I work in a food plant where we are installing computers controlling cookers, mixers etc. These computers are going to be running in a 100f+ room and steam. I have high doubts that cool vapor will kill a pc.

It was less than a year old, this guy is a computer tech wiz. Also well known in the UK for his steam train clouds on videos - as in total white out, fill a room with vape fog, one man, one mod fog machine type cloud chaser. He says vape condensation and residue killed the laptop - I believe him.
I'd believe him too...And I don't think you need to be a vaping super hero like your buddy.
It killed my keyboard. There was enough residue in there to gunk up a few contact pads. The computer runs fine after disconnecting the keyboard and using a remote keyboard. But there's no question what caused the issue. As soon as we opened that thing up, it was like sitting in a dumpster behind Baskin Robbins.

As long as you were there, I hope you got some ice cream.

You didn't want to throw in a new keyboard? They're sometimes tough to find the correct replacement, but it can be done. I have a (desktop) keyboard that's had coffee, dog hair, Sprite Zero, and some Chinese food on it as well as vapor blown out, and while it admittedly does look like crap in bright light (those keys will not clean no matter what I try), it's still working after 3 years. Although I do kill my mice about once a year. Here's the right side, the left is about the same. It ain't pretty.

I think most of that is coffee. The Chinese food was on the left side.

Nah...I just disabled the keyboard , hooked up a wireless external keyboard, reformatted the hard drive and gave it to my son. It's a Lenovo and still runs like a champ.
That's pretty much the extent of what I can do with a computer. I feel like a genius just being able to insert your quote! You should see me play Pong though. I'm deadly.
