Hi,

I'm new here, I don't personally smoke but I like learning as much facts as possible! And help someone else out here... ;):pervy:

What do you guys thing about vaping while charging from a powerbank?

Were talking here about a Volish Alpha (a stick type vape common in europe) and a simple 5.0V 10400mAh powerbank with a USB 2.1A output. The powerbank dies really quickly and I'm curious if the vape could be the cause. The powerbank has two outputs so a phone is also charging off it at the same time. With this setup the powerbank doesn't even last 1 day. A 10400mah powerbank! And it wasn't a cheap powerbank...

What do you think? Maybe it's a factory defect of this new powerbank (my friend has the exact same powerbank and it lasts him about 3.5x charging his phone)?
Do these kind of "stick vapes" suck in a lot of current while vaping which the powerbank cannot supply and this is killing the powerbank, or does it not even affect the powerbank because the power for the atomizer is supplied from the sticks battery?

I've also read on this forum that "passthrough charging" isn't healthy for your battery, maybe this has something to do with it?

I read this thread: is it safe to vape while charging?
But nothing was said about powerbanks. I know it shouldn't be much of a difference between a powerbank or a simple 5.0V 1.55A phone charger, but maybe? I know my electronical basics.

I would like to hear from you, anybody's opinion would be great and much help.

When you vape while charging you're pulling the current from the battery in the mod. Charging temporarily turns off and restarts when you release the fire button. There's no way the 1-2A current through the USB port could power your coil. My general experience with powerbanks is they in general aren't super efficient. It may be a 10,000 mAh rated brick, but if you get 7,000 out you'll be drawing the average. Some banks have been shown to not come close to their ratings even ignoring efficiency.

An average phone may draw what, 3,000 mAh these days? Add in a 1,400 mod and you've sucked it 2/3 empty for the average brick. Powerbanks like any other Li battery will of course decrease on capacity with time so if you've been using it a while that also comes into play.

As to pass through vaping while charging mods are supposedly properly wired to do so. However these are inexpensive electronics with risks associated with Li battery failures when in use while charging (one of the most common times a regulated mod will fail) so my preference is to not have it next to my face while plugged in and charging.

Edit: forgot to mention. Like other Li battery items, overrating is not unheard of. It's called marketing and the max output is under their perfect test conditions, not necessarily real world use.

Hi and welcome,
If the Joyetech/volish battery is not lasting all day, buy another one or two.

Cheers

Vape while charging doesn't make much sense as Eskie explained. Those powerbanks are often overrated also. I watched a video where a guy opened a powerbank and only some of the cells were actual batteries the other ones were battery cans filled with sand. They didn't even bother to connect wires to the fake batteries.

No, it's not a good idea. Passthrough vaping creeps me out. You are asking a battery to do too many things at once and or in rapid succession.

As @Izan said, get at least ONE more battery, and vape and charge as needed. switching between the two.

Also, the manufacturer may SAY it's Just Fine but that does NOT mean it is.

Also get your "vaper" posting on here him/herself it will be more useful.

10400 mAh should last a long time if the batteries are in good shape.
I vape at medium power (14-30 watts average) and 3,000-4,000 does a day.
I suspect your powerbank batteries are getting old or were tired to start with. Sadly, many power banks (even good ones) are a bit optimistic about the real capacity.

4 x 2,600 would give you 10,400. I'm not sure I know which brand makes a quality 2,600mAh 18650. There are Panasonics at 3,400. There are lots of accurate 2,500 and 3,000 out there. Maybe this is something to do with it?

I'd try another powerbank. Or, make your own with Panasonic 3,400s.
