Vaping with micro coils is unpleasant!

I recently rebuilt my Protank head with a micro coil and cotton wick and while the flavor production was good, the throat hit just thrashed me. I feel that it's making for an uncomfortable vape. Is it just me, or do micro coils kinda suck? I then did a traditional wrap/rebuild with silica and found the vape much more pleasant. What do you guys think about this whole micro coil craze?

Can you post a picture of your build? Microcoils simply may not be for everyone. Whatever works best for you, is what you should stick to, whether that is microcoils or not. Personally, all I build is microcoils, but everyone is different. It is also possible that you are blocking airflow in some way, which would make the vape much harsher. Too much wick material can cause this as well.

I absolutely love micro coils in all of my builds.

Now, as far as it being too harsh:
Are you sure you weren't using too much wick in your micro coil?

I have found that it's far easier to put too much wick into a micro than a standard coil.
For me, it's because the standard coils are a bit delicate, so I can't pull a behemoth piece of cotton through it without ruining the coil. Whereas with a micro, since it's so sturdy, I can pull a huge wad of cotton through it without ruining the coil, BUT then it's too much cotton and it won't wick correctly. Leading to dry/burnt/harsh hits.

Perhaps I'll give it another try. Mine turned out around 2.4 Ohms and I might have had too much cotton in there. I wasn't getting dry or burnt hits, just super intense throat hit with 12mg juice. It was unpleasant at best. I'm rinsing it out now and going to go for it again later tonight with a different juice and a little less cotton to see if that remedies the problem. Those bloody things are freaking hard to make too (at least on a Protank rebuild. Tiny tiny tiny.)

What are you using for the cotton? When I first started using organic cotton balls, I noticed that they were bleached with hydrogen peroxide and if I didn't boil them, they would make the vape much harsher and give my throat a nasty feeling. Also, like dr g stated, microcoils may require less nicotine to get the desired throat hit/nic fix.

Quad Microcoil on the Nimbus. I removed a lot more of the wick cause it was smothering the coil, so disregard all the wick in this picture.

Definitely try a lower nic juice. You're getting more vapor so to remain at the same TH you have to decrease the % of nic in the juice.
